A total of 15 people have been indicted or pleaded guilty in the teacher certification scam allegedly orchestrated by Clarence Mumford Sr., 59, of Memphis.
NBC News reported:
It was a brazen and surprisingly long-lived scheme, authorities said, to help aspiring public school teachers cheat on the tests they must pass to prove they are qualified to lead their classrooms.
For 15 years, teachers in three Southern states paid Clarence Mumford Sr. — himself a longtime educator — to send someone else to take the tests in their place, authorities said. Each time, Mumford received a fee of between $1,500 and $3,000 to send one of his test ringers with fake identification to the Praxis exam. In return, his customers got a passing grade and began their careers as cheaters, according to federal prosecutors in Memphis.
Authorities say the scheme affected hundreds — if not thousands — of public school students who ended up being taught by unqualified instructors.
Mumford faces more than 60 fraud and conspiracy charges that claim he created fake driver’s licenses with the information of a teacher or an aspiring teacher and attached the photograph of a test-taker. Prospective teachers are accused of giving Mumford their Social Security numbers for him to make the fake identities.
The hired-test takers went to testing centers, showed the proctor the fake license, and passed the certification exam, prosecutors say. Then, the aspiring teacher used the test score to secure a job with a public school district, the indictment alleges. Fourteen people have been charged with mail and Social Security fraud, and four people have pleaded guilty to charges associated with the scheme.
Former 49ers and Steelers receiver Cedrick Wilson was indicted in the scam.

What a surprise. Not– Wonder is the union will take any punitive action against these members? (They’ll come up with same lame reason why this is somebody else’s fault.)

“Busted: Dirty Teachers Hired Stand-Ins to Take Their Certification Tests”
I wonder how many of them hired stand-ins to vote for Obama?

So, why are all those teachers who passed over their social security numbers and MONEY and then used the test scores not being charged with conspiracy to defraud?
Vic Kelley commented:
I hope they can publicize the names of the teachers that hired people to take their certification tests. Parents ought to know who did this. Can’t go back in time and undo the poor instruction their kids probably received, but it is still their right to know.
I wonder how hard the tests are. Maybe if someone did this to pass the LSAT or the “bar exam” I could understand it. Those are supposed to be tough especially the bar. But teacher tests?

Obama’s peeps have been empowered and will do as they please. Morals are gone fromm the Democrats.

Now we know why the teachers union squeals when pay for performance is brought up in negotiating new contracts. They should all be summarily fired and charged with with identity theft. A slick lawyer should be able to bring a class action law suit against the school districts.
Tighterlines64 commented:
Seriously, Those tests are so dumbed down its depressing. I think prospective teachers should get one shot at them and If they don’t pass then then they can’t teach because they are just too stupid. A person apparently gets a four degree and can’t pass a basic skills test, its rediculous. I’ll bet my next paycheck that they can pass a test on social justice or marxism with their eyes closed though. It is to laugh.

Vic Kelley above nailed it. I don’t know what teacher certification is like in the United States, but I’ve taken law and teaching qualifications in Canada. Anybody that’s concerned about passing teacher certification shouldn’t be wondering around unsupervised.
