NY Applebee’s CEO Zane Tankel Says He Won’t Hire Because of Obamacare (Video)

Here comes the Obama-Pain–
NY Applebee’s CEO Zane Tankel says he may have to fire employees because of Obamacare.
Zane Tankel says this is the most difficult business climate he has ever seen.

Zane Tankel was on with FOX Business this weekend.
Huffington Post reported:

An Applebee’s New York area franchisee is the latest CEO to go public threatening drastic plans to avoid costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.

“We’ve calculated it will [cost] some millions of dollars across our system. So what does that say — that says we won’t build more restaurants. We won’t hire more people,” Zane Tankel, chairman and CEO of Apple-Metro, told Fox Business Network on Thursday.

Apple-Metro, which runs 40 Applebee’s restaurants, employs from 80 to 300 people at each of its locations. Obamacare mandates that businesses with more than 50 workers must offer an approved insurance plan or pay a penalty of $2,000 for each full-time worker over 30 workers.

Liberals were outraged over his honesty.

Likewise, Papa John’s CEO says Obamacare will raise costs and force him to cut employee’s hours.

At first I thought that all these layoffs would negatively affect the unemployment rate by making it go up. But now I’m not so sure…

While all these layoffs are bad, I think what’s going to be more prominent is employers cutting back on full-time workers and hiring more part-time workers. For example, the current employer of 50 people will get around Obamacare regulations by getting by with 100 part-time workers instead of having 50 full-time workers. So we might actually see unemployment going down as more people are finding part-time work.

The problem is, the built-in cost to employers by having to employ more part-time workers to do the same work that a handful of full-time workers could do. The cost to hire and train and maintain more workers is extensive. It will eat into profits no matter how they manipulate their workforce.

To say nothing of the fact that it’s those low-income workers who will ironically be the ones most to suffer. Think of the single mother with a full-time minimum wage job… perhaps she works someplace like Taco Bell that offers benefits, including vacation time and even a 401K. If her Taco Bell owner decides it’s cheaper to have more part-time workers and eliminate his full-time staff, she loses her benefits.. AND now she had to go out and find another part-time job. Now she’s working two or more part-time jobs just to earn the same income as before, AND she’s lost all her benefits. But hey, she’s got ‘free’ healthcare, including free birth control and all the free abortions she wants, right?

    What a disaster.

there really is a large populace out there that can’t add one and one. they expect someone else to contribute 100% so that they would have to contribute nothing. that doesn’t come close to what o’buzzard describes as fair. he’s lumped the truly needy in with the grifters and lumped those who have created their success in with the silver spoons.

Those Americans that actually used their intelligence to vote (Romney voters) knew this was coming. The Obamabots all filled with hope and change will soon have the most extreme buyers remorse ever.
Every facet of our economy is going to suffer. Many manufacturing jobs will be going overseas due to taxes, regulations and Obamacare. Enjoy that unions as you supported Obama.
When anyone complains about the economy or losing their jobs, I will ask them if they voted for Obama, and if they did my comment will be: You got what you wanted!

In my household, we’ve been compiling a list of conservative friendly businesses. As difficult as it is, our plan is only spending our money at these establishments.

  • Chalice

So where were these guys when this news could have done some good?

  • Chalice

Hey, Texas John, could you share the national list of conservative businesses? Are there any?

  • bigL

my college friend has an employee placement service. He sends out IT people, accts etc.He sent in his health plan to ObamaNoCare admin, who ever that is. They dragged their feet and did not respond for months. Then told him to pay for it himself while they decided, I am not sure how it wrks, whether it was all the salaries or what but he could not afford to cover the 80 that he had working .
So he was going to have to lay them off.He said this was common in Obama junta that no one moves at all or very fast on these decisions. Just like the Commies in Europe…

“Americans will have to bust their butts to work more than one job to survive the Obamaconomy.”

Friend of mine wrote on his Facebook page yesterday: “Two out of 8 people on time today! Impressive!!”

  • George

Texas John same request, can you please share your list?

  • snewb

Hey no problem. Barry will just print more money! Q4,Q5,Q6,Q7

  • Bob

Yes Texas John and George…let’s get a boycott list together. We need a nationwide blog site. I am sick and tired of the left shoving into our faces that we are wrong for agreeing with someone who is conservative and does not agree with the socialist agenda of Obama.
I boycott Hollywood and much of the entertainers along with the lame stream media. Imagine if America actually boycotted the NBC/MSNBC/Comcast Corporation sponsors. They would stop with the slobbering support of Obama.
Boycott them all who have done harm to this great country.

#6 November 11, 2012 at 12:27 am – the fight is over. There’s nothing left. America is dead.

What’s fascinating is that liberals don’t get it. Businesses are in business to make a profit. Without a profit, there’s no point. Liberals seem to think that business is there to make money to support liberals. They hate the evil corporations yet expect the evil corporations to produce for the liberal benefit. Of course that’s the same as what Owe promoted with Wall Street and Banks – demonize them and expect them to produce for redistribution.

  • msr

Do you want to correct the record on this post? Mr. Zankel is not the CEO of the company (DineEquity, Inc.). He is just a franchisee.

  • Robert

“Imagine if America actually boycotted the NBC/MSNBC/Comcast Corporation sponsors. They would stop with the slobbering support of Obama.”

I don’t think so. They would rather take their ideology to the point of bankrupting the business. And the shareholders of their parent corporations put up with it for some reason I do not understand.

Olive Garden are supporter of Mooochle. They are cutting their wrk hours to skip Obamacare, too. Disingenuous liberal-tards SOBs. Eat your f*cking crap sandwiches libs. Reap what you sow.
