Newt Gingrich weighed in on the shocking video of Barack Obama’s 2007 speech at Hampton University.

“It’s a reminder of the depth of dishonesty, the appeals to racism, the factual falsehoods that are at the heart of the modern left. What then Senator Obama said was factually false. New Orleans got far more money than New York City. New Orleans got a great deal of money that was not matched by the Stafford Act… Factual inaccuracies are at the heart of the modern left. If they have to rely on the facts they’ll lose every time.“

Newt was on with Greta Van Susteren tonight.

One aspect of the Stafford Act is that insurance payments are primary. Insurance was not as significant for 9/11 because of terrorism exclusions in typical policies. For Katrina, insurance coverage was a key component….by the way, they actually did waive the Stafford Act for New Orleans, but that spoils Obama’s narrative.

As the Daily Caller points out, by January 2007, six months before Obama’s Hampton speech, the federal government had sent at least $110 billion to areas damaged by Katrina. This was more than five times the money that the Bush administration pledged to New York City after 9/11.

Moreover, says the DC, the federal government did at times waive the Stafford Act during its New Orleans reconstruction efforts. On May 25, 2007, just weeks before Obama’s speech, the Bush administration sent an additional $6.9 billion to Katrina-affected areas with no strings attached. (H/T Powerline Blog)

This certainly explains the Obama Administration’s response to ice storms in Tennessee in early 2009 … Obama showed no interest, wouldn’t visit it or even declare it a disaster zone.

Not sure if bringing up the Bush response to Hurricane Katrina is the most helpful thing for Republicans.

This “bombshell” is akin to the Romney campaign- one big dud.

I loved the irony of Tucker condemning attempts at racial division while he attempts racial division. Even better was the fact that Carlson was wholly blind to his own hypocrisy.

Davis, How is bringing Obama’s racist nature to the attention of all Americans racist? It’s time everybody got a good look at the racist behind the MSM shield. Objective observers would just call it reporting the facts. Tucker didn’t edit it or comment over it, he just put it out for the world to see. Anything racist about it is the fact that Obama gave that dishonest speech for the express purpose of inflaming racial hatred.
