Al-Qaeda Assassinates Top Security Official at US Embassy in Yemen on His Way to Work

Bin Laden is dead – Al-Qaeda is alive.

Masked terrorists murdered the head of the US embassy security team on his way to work this morning.
Reuters reported:

Masked gunmen shot dead a Yemeni man on his way to work at the U.S. embassy in Sanaa on Thursday, a security source said, the latest in a wave of assassinations in the Arab state where Washington is battling al Qaeda militants.

The attackers on a motorcycle opened fire on a car carrying Qassem Aqlan – who headed an embassy security team – in the center of Yemen’s capital, the source told Reuters.

“This (assassination) operation has the fingerprints of al Qaeda which carried out similar operations before,” said the source who asked not to be named.

The Yemen-based al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and other militant groups strengthened their grip on parts of the country during an uprising that ousted veteran President Ali Abdullah Saleh in February.

There have been a number of assassinations attempts, some of them successful, on security officials and politicians since Yemen’s army drove Islamist fighters out of several southern towns earlier this year.

Washington, wary of the growing power of al Qaeda, has stepped up drone strikes on suspected militant positions.

Six other colleague officers in Yemen have been assassinated in this way.

Time to get our diplomats out of the ME except Israel, the only sane country in the area. The ME is ready to explode and the US had better support Israel if we want to survive. If anyone thinks our diplomats are accomplishing anything besides being sitting dlucks they are mistaken. We are very much disliked in that area. It is evident the WH doesn’t care about our people unless they can be used politically. The ME leaders have used us as a scapegoat for all the poverty of their people instead of themselves. We can pump all kinds of cash into these countries but the people themselves never see a dime. The leaders get richer and richer. Do you see all those gold chairs in interviews with ME leaders (or all around the world)? Guess who paid for them?

Hey didn’t Charlene Lamb say the same security used in Libya was the same used in Sanaa? And it was working very well?

    This thing is biggest clusterfark!!!!!

Our entire government remains STUCK on Benghazi as if it were an isolated moved into the past to be analysed and investigated. The reality is WE REMAIN UNDER ATTACK. The WEAKNESS of Obama’s response to 9/11/12 has emboldened Islamists all over the world to strike the West. Obama HUMILIATED America on the world stage and PERMANENT damage has been done . ….and while our installation around the world come under fresh attacks , we have a Joint Chief Chairman singing ” Irish Eyes are Smiling ” ….which tells the Islamists that the Great Satan is DRUNK and ready for slaughter. …>

I’d suggest a step-up in security with American forces or shut down the embassy and set a few Korans burning.

  • saveus

what video will obama blame this one on?

  • USMC Thomas

Murdered on his way to work doesn’t qualify as assassination, but rather the SØBama PC term, inoffensive to mooselimbs, workplace violence.

  • Granny

I suppose they’ve found another video to blame this on! (Anybody know when they are going to let the videographer from the video they lied about out of jail? Or are they waiting for him to be murdered? Talk about being railroaded!)

  • Harry K.

Obviously a lie. Obama told me that the War on Terror was over.

    Another “man-caused disaster”.

All these savages are proving is that they are cruising for a very large neighborhood mushroom cloud.

I suppose the misunderstanders of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage must’ve watched “The Sound of Music” or “Mary Poppins” last night…shivers…

Calm down people. This will have very little effect on Obama’s campaign. Just another bump in the road…

    Hillary still hasn’t stepped down.

    Obama has:

    26 days.

Michelle Obama says: “There are many signs………..that…we’re headed… the right direction.”

President Bush was right when he said back in 2006 that killing Bin Laden was “not a top priority use of American resources.”

The left mocked Bush, miscontruing his statement. But he undersood that al Qaeda as a whole was the real threat. He never said killing Bin Laden was not part of our military mission, but he understood that his top priority was to destroy al Qaeda rather than focus on a single individual.

Now we are back to 2001 where al Qaeda is a viable and legitimate threat to the Americans everywhere.

I’ve got money that says Gallup shows an Obama surge back to +4 today. Money.

P.S., Turns out the unemployment numbers are completely bogus as they do not even include the figures from “one large state”. WTF? How do you report a number that is knowingly incomplete without mentioning THAT minor fact in the headline?

So what we have is a completely fake story.

Sad because the new government in Yemen has taken a hard line against al-Queda and has the potential to be a strong ally to the US.

Given the size of this “angry Muslim crowd” one could conclude the ‘photo-jpurnalist’ guy with a cell phone camera, didn’t have much money. I especially like the guy looking off to Stage Right with an expressing saying “What are we shouting for????”

….And the lead front-page story for today’s San Diego Union-Tribune

“Republicans used a politically charged House hearing to confront State Department officials about security at the U.S. Consulate in Libya and assail the Obama administration’s early response to the killing of the ambassador and three other Americans there.”

“GOP lawmakers rejected the department’s explanation Wednesday that protection judged adequate for the threat was overwhelmed by an unprecedented assault in Benghazi on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.”

That’s the opening of the story. The news, according to this article, is that those awful Republicans are making political hay.

Why would an article be written with that kind of spin? I think the answer is found in the byline.

“By LARRY MARGASAK & MATTHEW LEE Associated Press”

….And here is how another agency reported the same hearing:

Explanation of Libya attack raises questions

“State Department officials said Wednesday that security levels at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were adequate for the threat level on the anniversary of 9/11 but that the compound was overrun by an “unprecedented attack” by dozens of heavily armed extremists.”

“The testimony came one day after State Department officials said they had never concluded that the consulate attack in Libya stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam, a statement easily refuted by reviewing on-air interviews with diplomats and the White House press secretary for more than a week after the attack.”

The above article was “written by the Associated Press” without any byline.

For me, the take-home message is that the Associated Press could benefit from some classical editing.

What should scare us the most. . is that most VOTER ID laws have been struck down for THIS election only. .by DEM judges. .

I smell corruption BIG TIME coming. . .

    Be on guard

#27 mg4us: That’s my BIGGEST worry. I won’t be happy until Romney/Ryan wins in an incontrovertibe LANDSLIDE, and that happiness will only last for a day.

Then there will be the sweating through most of January waiting for the bum to move OUT.

  • mg4us

Demand Hillary’s head. . she needs to be FIRED NOW. . Rice too!

  • Bob

After the election President Romney will have more flexibility to deal with these animals.

#28 SoLongSong Thanks. . .agree with you

Also, If people are unregistered it is because they either didn’t care or were irresponsible in the first place. . .why dilute the votes of registered responsible people for the ones who didn’t make an effort. .

Time to halt the reversal of voter ID laws

Demand ID or expect massive fraud

  • Grandma Perkins

Meanwhile the Libya hearings were an unmitigated disaster. *sigh*

  • SoLongSong

I’d even go for dipping my finger in ink when I vote. And no mass absentee or early voting ballots – except for the military.

  • valerie

oboy. Susan Rice has been on twitter, and it is baffling.

State Department Official Won’t Say Benghazi Attack Was Terrorism

During a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on the September 11, 2012, attacks against U.S. diplomatic facilities in Libya, a top State Department official refused to characterize the attacks as “terrorism.”

    “I have just presented the facts as they’ve come across,” said Charlene Lamb, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Programs at State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security. “I am not making any judgments on my own” with respect to the terrorism label, she told Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN).{………………..}

This administration won’t call this terrorism, either.

  • robins111

Way I figure, Hilleroid Clinton, will be in front of cameras before the days out claiming this action is the result of Islamist outrage over the swirl on a DQ cone, which is offensive to muslims. Followed shortly later by Bammy arresting the inventor of blizzards.

Al Qaeda sure is “back on its heels,” isn’t it?

As long as we have a weak and ineffectual President, they will be emboldened to act with impunity.

    Fire Obama now!

  • OncealwaysaMarine

bin Laden’s dead….and so is any chance of Obama’s being reelected.

  • Freddy

Don’t jump to conclusions. We have no evidence to prove that this attack was not a result of that same video!

Look for the Obama administration to NOT call this an act of terrorism.

More attacks over the next few weeks are likely as Obama continues to stuff his head in the sand.
