More than 58 63 million viewers watched Mitt Romney give Barack Obama a thumping. FOX News was the most watched channel last night.
Media Bistro reported:

More than 58 million people watched the first Presidential debate last night between President Obama and Mitt Romney, up substantially from the first debate in the 2008 election cycle, which had 52.4 million viewers.

Fox News was the most-watched cable news network during the debate, and will likely be the most-watched network on TV, though final broadcast numbers will not be released until after 4 PM.

Fox News, MSNBC, NBC, Fox and CBS are all up from the same debate in 2008, while CNN and ABC are down. In the adults 25-54 demo, FNC and MSNBC are up compared to 2008, while CNN is down.

The Overlooked Gaffe That Should Be Exploited

Obama: ‘Everybody’s Getting a Fair Share’

In President Obama’s closing statement at last night’s debate, he seemed to make a remarkable slip. “All those things are designed to make sure that the American people, their genius, their grit, their determination, is — is channeled and — and they have an opportunity to succeed. And everybody’s getting a fair shot. And everybody’s getting a fair share,” Obama said, before quickly correcting himself and adding.
    Official portrait of Barack Obama

“[E]verybody’s doing a fair share, and everybody’s playing by the same rules,” he added.

The president made the statement in conjunction with defending his time in office. “You know, four years ago, I said that I’m not a perfect man and I wouldn’t be a perfect president. And that’s probably a promise that Governor Romney thinks I’ve kept. But I also promised that I’d fight every single day on behalf of the American people, the middle class, and all those who were striving to get into the middle class. I’ve kept that promise and if you’ll vote for me, then I promise I’ll fight just as hard in a second term,” Obama concluded.

Mitt Romney, for his part, used his closing argument to make the case for him to be elected president. “If I’m elected we won’t have Obamacare. We’ll put in place the kind of principles that I put in place in my own state and allow each state to craft their own programs to get people insured and we’ll focus on getting the cost of health care down,” said Romney.

  2. You mean a smacking upside the noggin.

  3. FOX News had the highest ratings for the debate, but I bet almost everyone switched over to MSNBC after the debate to watch the expected, and delivered, meltdown. I know our house did. :)

It would be interesting to get the post debate ratings, I bet MSNBC did fantastic there.

And this: “Murray Energy’s Ohio Valley Coal Subsidiary Lays Off 29 Hourly Workers” “Ohio Valley Coal Co., a subsidiary of Murray Energy Corp. in Pepper Pike, said it has laid off 29 hourly workers at its Powhatan No. 6 Mine in Belmont County, Ohio — a move it blames on ‘the excessive and unnecessary regulatory actions of the Obama administration.’ … He [Ronald Koontz, general manager of Ohio Valley Coal] continued…‘The failed energy policies of the Obama administration and the ‘war on coal’ that the president and his Democrat supporters have unleashed are the direct cause of this layoff.’” (Crain’s Cleveland Business, 7/20/12)
“Two Coal Companies Downsize” “Two area coal companies announced layoffs Friday, saying weakened coal demand and an aggressive regulatory structure forced the idling of several mines. … ‘[T]he escalating costs and uncertainty generated by recently advanced [energy] regulations and interpretations have created a challenging business climate for the entire coal industry,’ he [PBS President and CEO D. Lynn Shanks] said in the statement.” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 7/20/12)
“Coal Jobs Cut; Consol, Others Scaling Back” “[C]ompany officials are laying off 318 West Virginia coal miners, citing pressure from federal environmental regulators. Consol is not alone in reducing its coal operations in West Virginia, as Arch Coal and Alpha Natural Resources also announced recently plans to cut back their work forces throughout the Mountain State. All three companies blame [federal regulations] for causing a downturn in coal demand, citing this as the reason for reducing their coal operations.” (The Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register, 7/8/12)

  7. Obama’s War on Coal – 175 Coal Plants Closed Under Obama

Obama says: Go ahead and build a coal-powered plant — but it will bankrupt you.
In July, the Murray Energy Corporation announced that it would be closing an Ohio coal mine. Fifty-six people were still working at the mine, which had employed 239 in its heyday. Some of the employees would be transferred to other positions in the company, but that meant new people wouldn’t be hired to fill those positions.

“President Obama is responsible entirely for the closure of that mine and the loss of those jobs,” Murray Energy Corporation’s founder and CEO, Robert Murray, a major Republican donor, told CNN in August.

“The many regulations that he and his radical appointees and the U.S. EPA have put on the use of coal . . . have closed 175 power plants,” Murray added.

  8. Must admitted switch channels back and forth to American Hoggers everytime O responsed to a question ,figure he going to lie his way through it anyway like the last four years……..

  9. “Fox News was the most-watched cable news network during the debate”

MSNBC could easily have been the most-watched after the debate,
if, like I did, a lot of people switched over to see the heads explode.

  10. I couldn’t believe how much time Obama spent looking down, apparently at his notes. It made him look weak, like he was embarssed that Romney was out doing him. Clearly Obama didn’t spend much time preparing for the debate. I can’t imagine his coaches not telling him that the excessive time spent looking down was very bad body language. Other times Obama looked enraged. Obama is used to being treated with kid gloves and asked softball questions. His left wing Democrat press wasn’t there to cover for him. Without a teleprompter, Obama is lost. He obviously does not have the great orator skills we’ve been led to believe these last 4 years.
Romney came across as a leader, someone who understands the economy and what it takes for businesses and jobs to prosper. And Obama, well, he just spewed the same tripe he’s been spewing the last 4 years, crap everyone has heard over and over and over.

Can’t wait for the 2nd debate, where Obama gets his worthless butt kicked again.

  12. Limbaugh: Obama ‘came off worse’ against Romney than he did against Clint Eastwood

The accolades are still coming for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s debate performance on Wednesday night, the latest from conservative talker Rush Limbaugh.

On his Thursday show, Limbaugh compared President Barack Obama’s showing on Wednesday to the “empty chair” skit put on by Clint Eastwood in Tampa, Fla. at the Republican National Convention. According to Limbaugh, Obama fared better there than he did in the debate.

“You know ladies and gentlemen, Obama came off even worse in his debate with Romney last night than he did in his debate with Clint Eastwood,” Limbaugh said. “And that’s saying something.”

Limbaugh went as far as to say that it was one of the “best debate performances” not just of recent memory, but of his entire life.

“What did we learn last night?” Limbaugh continued. “I mean, we really learned a lot. This was one of the best debate performances in my life. I know people are saying the last [30] years — that would take us back to 1980, and Reagan was awesome. But this was awesome from start to finish, particularly measured against fears and expectations. It couldn’t have been any better — maybe, I mean, I had a couple of nitpicks. I would have liked to have heard my taxes are going to get cut, too. I wish at the end, he had just gone in there and continued to nail the guy, but he went nice.”

  13. Top Five Obama Debate Lies

Lie #1: Obama said his plan would reduce the deficit by $4 trillion.

At the debate, Obama incrediby said: “I’ve proposed a specific $4 trillion deficit reduction plan. … The way we do it is $2.50 for every cut, we ask for $1 in additional revenue.”

In the Washington Post, even the liberal Glenn Kessler did not take Obama serious, writing “virtually no serious budget analyst agreed with this accounting.”

Lie #2: Obama falsely claimed Romney’s plan would raise taxes on middle class families.

Obama on Tuesday said under Romney’s plan, “the average middle-class family with children would pay about $2,000 more.”

But the The Associated Press agreed with studies the Romney campaign has cited that showed his plans would not raise taxes on anyone.

Lie #3: Obama said Obamacare would make health care premiums more affordable.

    On Tuesday, Obama said:

  15. Obama has received a positive reaction for everything he’s ever done in his life and a do over for every screw up.

Last night however, he got a reality lesson and he couldn’t handle it. But Obama will be back slashing and burning Romney for daring to criticise him instead of adequately explaining his own failures. Americans have now seen a positive energetic candidate whose agenda makes sense and isn’t a bullet point presented to confuse the public and keep them knowing the truth until its too late. Those 65 million who tuned in to watch the debate last night did not do so to watch Obama for the umpteenth time. They wanted to see Romney and they weren’t disappointed.

You should have, it was the moment of truth for Chris Matthews. You could actually see the scales fall from his eyes as he realized the Emperor really didn’t have any clothes on. It was a powerful, moving moment.

  17. After Romney took the figurative “chainsaw” to Obama, notice how much Red there is in all the photos of the debate platform…especially the carpet in the half shot of just Obama’s legs and feet and his empty podium…spent a lot of time staring down at his feet like a child being scolded.
