Thieves Steal Joe Biden’s Secret Service U-Haul From Hotel Parking Lot

Joe Biden’s secret service U-Haul was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Detroit today. The truck carried Secret Service property, but no weapons that could have put the public at risk.

A U-Haul being used by the secret service for Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to the Labor Day Rally in Detroit on Monday was stolen out of a hotel parking lot Sunday morning.

The U-Haul was stolen form the Holiday Inn parking lot in downtown Detroit on
Washington Boulevard.

The hotel has declined to comment.

The U-haul is 14-feet high, has an Arkansas backdrop on the side of the truck and has Arizona plates. The plate number is: AD09406.

   Thieves stole a U-Haul truck in downtown Detroit Saturday night containing equipment for the U.S. Secret Service, which is in town for a Labor Day visit by Vice President Joe Biden.

   “It won’t affect the visit at all,” said Secret Service spokesman Edward Donovan. “We would never compromise the security of a visit.”

   Donovan said the agency rented the truck to haul equipment, some of which was in the vehicle when it was stolen from outside a downtown hotel, near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Michigan Avenue. The agents left the vehicle Saturday evening and discovered it missing Sunday morning, Donovan said.

   He wouldn’t describe the equipment inside but said the agency will have everything it needs to secure Biden’s visit.

   Detroit police are investigating the theft, but referred all questions to the Secret Service.

   “It’s a local matter at this point,” Donovan said. “We’ll work with them.

   I’ve done some more digging here in Chicago on the story we brought you on Friday about plans currently underway to purchase a $35 million beachfront estate on the island of Oahu in a part of Hawaii called “Kailua” for the Obama family to move into in January 2013 when they leave the White House.

   It’s funny, but “kai” means “victorious” in Mandarin Chinese and you probably know that “lua” is close to the Hawaiian word “luau”, which is of course a large party. It’s more than ironic that a spot in paradise that conjures a mental image of “victory party” will be the place the Obama family moves to in just four months or so, after they’ve been booted from the White House. They surely won’t be in a festive mood after being downgraded from “First Family” to ordinary citizens again, but no doubt the rest of the world will be celebrating.
