Multiple bombings were repeated across Iraq leaving 100 people dead today.

The violence came after the government sentenced Iraq’s fugitive Vice President to death for the murder of a female lawyer and security official.
Reuters reported:

Car bombs tore through mainly Shi’ite Baghdad districts on Sunday after Iraq’s fugitive Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi was sentenced to death, as more than 100 people were killed across the country in one of the bloodiest days this year.

Hashemi’s sentencing in absentia and the violence threatened to further stoke sectarian tensions in Iraq where a Shi’ite-led government is battling political deadlock and a Sunni Islamist insurgency nine months after U.S. troops left.

A senior Sunni politician, Hashemi fled Iraq after the authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in December, a move that threatened to collapse a fragile power-sharing deal among Shi’ite, Sunni and Kurdish blocs.

After Sunday’s court ruling, bombs tore through six mainly Shi’ite neighborhoods around Baghdad, one going off outside a restaurant and another in a busy commercial district, following earlier bombs that had hit other cities nationwide.

“I heard women screaming, I saw people running in all directions, chairs scattered in the street. My windows were blown out, my mother and two kids were injured too,” said Alla Majid, still shaking after a blast in Baghdad’s Sadr City.

Hashemi, who is unlikely to return to Iraq from Turkey, had accused Shi’ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki of orchestrating a crackdown on Sunni opponents and had refused to appear in a court he dismissed as biased.

He and his son-in-law were both found guilty in absentia of murdering a female lawyer and security official, Abdul-Sattar al-Birqdar, a judiciary spokesman said.

  1. Just another day in the office in Iraq. Dialing it back to the 5th century…

  2. “IT’S THE ISLAM, STUPID!”

  3. Subprime decided to abandon the effort, whatever the consequences. The loss of American lives and treasure has been squandered by this sorry excuse for a commander-in-chief and his pantsuited flunky.

  4. The Religion of Piece strikes again. . .

Thanks Barack. . .thanks for squandering all our men and women achieved BEFORE you got there!

    Though we both know
YOU DIDN”T BUILD IT. . .that doesn’t mean YOU GET TO BREAK IT

  5. Requiring a tri-partite “coalition” government is a recipe for civil war. The sunnis hate everyone to the point of genocide. So do the shi’ites. The kurds have good reason to be afraid of everyone. Just gotta love them jihadists.

  6. They have a Vice President who’s a fugitive?

That’s only one step below us; we have a dummy for a Vice President…

  7. That region and islam is suck an insane mess. We conservatives need to admit that “nation building” in that region was a total mistake. We’ve basically aided shi’ite “islamists” (devout muslims) to take that country over. Was that really worth American lives and resources? I think not. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a pacifist. It’s just that our goals in Iraq were moronic. As they are in Afghanistan now. These countries are full of hostile barbaric muslim fanatics. I fail to see how our military efforts in both of those countries solved that problem.

  8. #10 – OUr goal in Iraq were fine. The media and the left hijacked the point. Intelligence is even now saying that what Iran has likely in part came from disassembled weaponry in Iraq (remember how long we waited before we went in), but if you think intelligence is going to tell a thing to us after the major leaks media has done putting our soldiers in harm’s way you are naive.

Iraq had broken their terms of surrender more than 11 times, there was ZERO to apologize for there.

In Babylon, those who were involved in 9/11 were living, even media admitted this.

We gave in to PC and let Iraq act like dips to our ‘weapons inspectors’. There was NO forcing them to behave when they totally ignored protocol.

Our soldiers were not allowed to fire nad they were fighting against un-uniformed terrorists who used Iraqi citizens as shields.

Despite a massively stacked deck of cards the citizens faced death to vote, 1 million people, which OUR media said would never happen. Hence we know that the Iraqi people DO want freedom.

We sold out our soldiers to the UN first and then to some international PC cabal. THEN came Obama who cannot have soldiers who are constitutionally and Christian focused die fast enough to ensure that they are not here to defend US against Muslim/Marxism…which is what we now do see with Iran and Egypt and which arguably Obama was in favor of all along.

Look to Obama and Emanuel to ‘solve’ the teachers strike so they can be perceived as problem solvers in time for the election.

The good news is that things are escalating so horribly in the Middle East that the economy IS going to have to share priority with this. Unfortunately for Obama, his foreign policy is no better than his domestic economic policy.
