  13. Ryan reminds me of the title character in the movie “Dave” — just an ordinary guy who uses common sense and a calculator to balance the federal budget in a couple of days (if you haven’t seen it, rent it).

Aside from the obvious reasons for picking Ryan, I think Romney picked him because he has the potential to succeed him in 2020 as another great Republican president. That’s an unselfish act that says a lot about Romney’s character and his love of country.

  14. Ryan was great, and as a born Midwesterner it just did my heart good to see and hear that down-home common sense.

Condoleezza Rice, though, was……..overwhelming. I would follow that woman anywhere, and only regret never so far having the chance to cast my vote for her. It needs to be understood that what she is is somehow even more powerful than what she represents to me.

I wasn’t born on a coast, or in a situation where there was much sophistication. I’m 67 now; when I was 12 years old I saw newspaper and television coverage of the National Guard forcibly integrating the Little Rock high schools over the objections of Governor Orval Faubus of Arkansas. Little Rock was only 500 miles away from Springfield, Illinois where I was born.

When I went away to high school in Boonville at Kemper, one of my classmates turned out to have been standing on the street yelling N*****Lovers! at the Guardsmen, and one of my teachers turned out to have been one of the Guardsmen he was yelling at. I’ve since seen and heard about every kind of ignorant redneck you can shake a stick at. And then one day about 10 years ago I came across a photo in a newspaper of Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State, being greeted at a formal meeting by Benjamin Netanyahu, and I’ve never gotten over it. Goosebumps, and proud enough to bust.

A brilliant human being, a fine artist, the Secretary of State of the United States of America, and a black woman. My country accomplished that change in less than 50 years. I can still barely speak of that moment without choking up; Dr. Rice showed me again tonight that she feels it exactly the same way that I do. What an incredible woman, and a great great American.

    God bless this country.

  15. Watch the “gender gap” melt away as it encounters a strong, smart, confident, geuine man with pretty blue eyes.

  16. Saw on another thread that Chrissy Matthews was losing it so I switched over and they were really trying to bash Ryan.Fineman said that the admin.better make that face with the baby blue eyes into a lying face and they better do it fast. They sounded near hysteria.Ryan has them running scared.Lol.

  17. I wonder if Obama was watching espn tonight. We know he isnt worried about the hurricane in the Gulf

Great speeches tonight. I have hope the nightmare will end soon. I am so glad Romney picked Ryan
