Of the film “The Sound of Music” Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek observes a strange paradox: in it, the real fascists are not the Nazis but rather that damn Von Trapp family with its uniforms, the singing drills, the Aryan cultural ideal, etc. No, the Nazis depicted in the film are decadent smokers, drinkers and embracers of degenerate cultural excess.

Today we have an interesting parallel. Republicans are niece the modest neoliberal form, socially tolerant and libertarian. It is the Progressive Left that has become our contemporary intolerant fascists, replete with their profound hatred of any individual accomplishment.

When Barack Hussein Obama ran for POTUS in 2008, he promised many things, including the following:

1. To put new legislation on the Whitehouse website for 5 days prior to signing them.

2. To broadcast Congressional health care negotiations live on C-SPAN.

3. To end earmarks.

4. To keep unemployment under 8%.

5. To close the detention center at Guantanamo during his first year.

6. To usher in a new era of global cooperation.

7. To end the hiring of former lobbyists.

8. To ensure open competition for US Government contracts.

9. To disclose names of those attending Whitehouse meetings.

10. To ensure a new era of bipartisan cooperation.

11. To select a home church for Sunday services.

I woke up today as excited as I was at the announcement yesterday. For the first time in over three years, hope overwhelms the despair of change I’d been feeling. Not that I let that despair take over my life or anything, but the government and everything they do despite the out and out SHOUTING of the people….I was feeling so oppressed.

THANK YOU, GOD. Romney/Ryan 2012! And 2016! Then Ryan/whomever 2020!! Our country’s future looks bright!!

The funny thing is I think cutting most Pell Grants is good policy and I wish someone with some common sense would take to the woodshed anyone who thinks otherwise.

People complain about the high cost of education, and rightly so. With Pell Grants, the government subsidizes those high costs, creating a situation where schools do not have any incentive to lower their fees. Getting the government out of the higher education subsidy business would force schools to examine their operations and cut costs accordingly (like say Wymyn’s Transgender Ethnic Studies). Once schools have to start recruiting those who will actually pay them back, they will look more into the backgrounds of applicants than just race/gender boxes to be checked. Then the business of education truly becomes a business, governed by supply and demand. Charging too high a price for a shi*ty product with no future? No one will attend and the college will close. But have a good product at a fair price? People will be knocking down their doors to get accepted. By lowering costs, more can afford to attend college.

The government is not efficient, and everything the givernment (ETA: In previewing the comment, I found that was some Freudian typo!) touches gets more expensive. So cutting Pell Grants is counter-intuitive because it actually helps more people who want to go to college get there by forcing colleges to lower the costs involved.

Since when did the USA become Mexico’s social welfare program. There’s a reason the Mexican government encourages its people to illegally cross the border and sue our states for trying to enforce our immigration laws because Obama’s Feds won’t do it.

BTW, anyone concerned with the oddsmakers or Intrade looking good for Obama, 3 days ago the chances of Ryan being the VP pick were close to zero.

Intrade as a predictive tool is useless. It basically responds to the latest ridiculous liberal poll. The people who bet Intrade are not betting on the eventual outcome, they are betting on the near-term upcoming movement.

Will be curious to see how Rasmussen polling responds to the Ryan pick. I am sure fundraising will be off the charts.

My prediction is that within a month of election day, MSM polling will be giving democrats +20 point sampling advantages just to keep Obama ahead.

The problem is that the polling orgs will have to fix their samples before election day as they can’t be seen missing by 20 points. This will mean HUGE shift to Romney in the last week of the campaign, just as happened with Carter and Reagan. There was never a huge last minute shift to Reagan – the press just stopped lying about Carter’s lead.

Look at the official immigration policy and forms . . . people are to show they have means to provide for themselves and not be a burden to the society or state. .

When did someone change the execution of this policy. . .
