It figures. Over 70% of Barack Obama’s Twitter followers are fake.

USA Today reported:
President Obama’s Twitter account has 18.8 million followers — but more than half of them really don’t exist, according to reports.
A new Web tool has determined that 70% of Obama’s crowd includes “fake followers,” The New York Times reports in a story about how Twitter followers can be purchased.
“The practice has become so widespread that StatusPeople, a social media management company in London, released a Web tool last month called the Fake Follower Check that it says can ascertain how many fake followers you and your friends have,” the Times reports.
“Fake accounts tend to follow a lot of people but have few followers,” said Rob Waller, a founder of StatusPeople. “We then combine that with a few other metrics to confirm the account is fake.”

Nice to know my suspicions about their side deliberately using many, many online identities to spread their message can be proven true, at least on Twitter. Next thing, somebody will prove that they are being paid to do it.
This is why we must never give any credence to online polling.

So, let me see, Obama is so into the internet and suppose to be the first Social networking president, so, tell that to his followers, oooopps, shouldn’t be too hard there aren’t that many, apparently.

3 U.S. Marines shot in Mexico
Three U.S. Marines were injured in a shooting south of Mexico City on Friday morning, a Mexican military official told CNN Mexico.
The motive behind the attack on the American servicemen, who were on a diplomatic mission, was not immediately known.
Unknown gunmen inside what was described as a Mexican federal police vehicle fired upon a U.S. Embassy vehicle that carried the U.S. servicemen, said the official, who declined to be named for security reasons.
The injured Marines were transported to a hospital in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

I just checked the info on @barackobama and 31% are fake, 39% are inactive (that is the 70% mentioned). The USA Today article reads “A new Web tool has determined that 70% of Obama’s crowd includes “fake followers,” ”
Notice that it says that 70% INCLUDES fake followers, not that all of them are. I searched on the Fake Followers website but could not find anything that explained the difference between Fake & Inactive. Inactive could be an account that was legit but is no longer being used.
I would think the better headline would be “30% of Barack’s Twitter followers are actual people.”

The Obama campaign is very busy sending people odd messages. Yesterday, the President himself described his fear of Mitt Romney. Today, a new mass email shows Mr. Obama touching people and their hands.
