The Obama Record: Deep Poverty at Record High, Homeless Families on the Rise & 6.4 Million More Living Below Poverty Line

Under Barack Obama: Deep poverty is at record high level, homeless families are on the rise, and the media is silent.
Barack Obama is not just the food stamp president.
A record one in seven Americans is on food stamps today thanks to Barack Obama.
But, that’s not all.
Barack Obama is also the poverty and pain president.
Under Obama, 6.4 million Americans are living below the poverty line and there is a record number of Americans living in deep poverty.

The nation’s homelessness czar in the George W. Bush administration says that programs enacted back then have had a dramatic effect on cutting the chronically homeless population, but warns that families are increasingly being left out in the cold as the economy struggles to recover.
“There have never been as many poor people in our country as there are now,” Philip F. Mangano told PJM today, adding that the “highest number ever in the history of our country” are living in “deep poverty,” which is 50 percent below the poverty line and under.
“One of the great indicators of homelessness is poverty,” he said. “Poverty is the waystation before you fall into homelessness.” And with the economic indicators such as the unemployment rate stagnant as they have been, “you can anticipate more people falling into homelessness.”
They’re startling, tragic facts that rarely make headlines in a campaign dominated by conversations about the middle class and a Congress inundated in debate over middle- and upper-income tax cut extensions.
“The poverty rate has never jumped higher than in the past few years and the media is silent on it,” Mangano said. “Most media coverage is focused on middle-class trauma during the recession, not focused on the very poor.”

Well, yes – this goes without saying really. Where else does anyone think all those millions upon millions of people who no longer qualify for unemployment and can’t get a job go? Or the millions upon millions who are working a part-time job or a 32-hour a week “full time” job for minimum wage?
The MSM has been portraying the homeless as mostly made up of drug addicts, alcoholics and crazy people for more than twenty years when the truth of the matter is that a fair number of them are folks who simply couldn’t make enough money to keep a roof over their heads.

Actually, Jim made a mistake when writing that. It is not a mere “6.4 million American’s living below the poverty line” it is “6.4 million MORE Americans living below the poverty line.
I think that Jim also linked the wrong source for that figure above, as I can not find any mention of the poverty rate in the article. That statistic is borne out here, however:
Note that while the 2008 figure is likely fairly close for obama’s 2009 inauguration, it has been 2 years since the most recently available statistics were gathered, so this number if likely incorrect by some little bit. Since there has been no significant positive change in the economy in that time, I would expect 6.4 million to be a low-ball figure.

I’m not sure comments actually were deleted. I’ve noticed for some while that the count is almost always off. The main page will say there is 1 comment when there are none and so forth.
Alternatively Jim has installed a script that obliterates comments that use certain words automatically but the script doesn’t renumber the thread. Given some of the lunacy people post here with the all-too-obvious intent of making us all look like candidates for the looney bin or Homeland Security re-education camps, it wouldn’t be a bad thing if he has.

Obama needs as many people as he can to fall into the trap of welfare addiction with him as the supplier, the drug dealer if you wish.
