For some reason, Dick thought it was a good idea to diss beloved conservative Sarah Palin today.
ABC News reported:

Dick Cheney has some advice for Mitt Romney on choosing a running mate: Don’t pick another Sarah Palin.

In his first interview since receiving a heart transplant in March, Cheney told ABC News, that John McCain’s decision to pick Palin as his running mate in 2008 was “a mistake” — one that it is important from Romney not to repeat.

It’s subject on which Cheney has some unique experience. He helped Presidents Gerald Ford and George W. Bush lead their vice presidential searches and, of course, served as vice president for eight years. He’s also privately offered some advice to both Romney and Beth Myers, who is leading Romney’s search for a runningmate, on the process.

Cheney would not comment on what he told Romney and Myers, but he was harsh in his assessment of McCain’s decision to pick Palin.

“That one,” Cheney said, “I don’t think was well handled.”

“The test to get on that small list has to be, ‘Is this person capable of being president of the United States?’”

Cheney believes Sarah Palin failed that test.

“I like Governor Palin. I’ve met her. I know her. She – attractive candidate. But based on her background, she’d only been governor for, what, two years. I don’t think she passed that test…of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake.”

  1. What was Ronnie Reagan’s 11th commandment?

“Don’t speak ill of another Republican”

I love ya Dick, but shut up about this.

  2. Sure Dick, except Sarah has driven more than one narrative over the past 3.5 years, been laser-sharp in defining specific policies and issues, and continues to correctly portray our country in a positive way.

But now ol’ Dick wants to feather his own image by jumping on the “bash Sarah” bandwagon.

Seriously, what is wrong with politicians? There has to be some definable mental disorder going on. Whatever it is, it’s not good for humanity.

  3. right….and Obama passed the “test” for being president….and biden for VP, right??? I still don’t get it….Cheney needs to go out to pasture……chew on his own currish cud for awhile…the presidency needs to be about problem solving…..what did Cheney solve???

  4. lol will the sheep in the media be on ” evil ” Mr.C’s nuts now that he dissed Palin. Him @ Georgy boy along with Mclame are the reason we got this Kenyan Marxist to begin with. @ least Sara was calling BO out for what he was during the campaign.

  5. I have been, and remain, a HUGE HUGE HUGE Cheney fan (I actually enjoy sitting through his speeches)…but I disagree here.

Palin was in 2008, and is now, more qualified to sit in the WH than the current occupant.

  6. “The test to get on that small list has to be, ‘Is this person capable of being president of the United States?’”

Cheney believes Sarah Palin failed that test.
    —————————————————————————

Ya got it completely backwards there Dick. McLame was the one not qualified to be President. I would have been doing handsprings if Saracudda had been the lead on the ticket. She’d have picked a solid conservative VP and they would have run a real campaign. Instead the GOP so-called leadership left her to twist in the wind with little or no help and training on how to handle the national news idiots and McLame ran a losing ‘demoncrat-lite’ campaign that was sure to lose. duh.

  7. Some people who care more than about feelings will sit back and consider Cheney’s words and realize that he is correct. No one with a lick of sense would pick someone with such a thin resume for such a high position. All glitter, no substance.

Those same people also know that admitting such a thing publicly about Palin will earn the ire of the blind devoted followers of Palin’s cult of personality.
But none of you who worship her will admit or consider why Alaska is one of the LEAST business friendly states after her short tenure.

  8. While Mr. Cheney has been hanging out in hospitals, Palin has been working endlessly to elect conservative candidates all across this great country. Palin has “It”. Cheney has “whatever”.

  9. It’s hard to imagine her being worse than W.

  10. The American people picked Obama who hadn’t accomplished anything in his entire life – all hot air, so what does this say about how the American people chose a President anyhow. Palin had what it took, and that is the reason the left went after her relentlessly. They knew she was honest, could not be bought, and would bring the corruption to light in the Congress and Senate – it scared them silly. As for Cheney, it seems the American people had a hate-on for him, so what does that say about him.

  11. Sarah Palin had more experience than Obummer, and more potential than McCain.
    .

  12. #7- exactly

  13. Why make the statement?

What does it earn you; or how does it advance the debate?

  14. Picking McCain was the problem.

  15. I didn’t take the comments as anti-Palin; I think Cheney meant that being mayor of small-town Wasilla and then governor of Alaska for only 2 years just wasn’t enough preparation. Palin has a great future as a conservative speaker/pundit but she has probably been damaged fatally as a national candidate. A sad loss -

  16. I love Sarah Palin, but she was very green in terms of handling hostile media. To the liberal idiots who dismiss her a dumb bimbo, look at her now. She is in complete control. She can take Katie Couric and make mincemeat of her now.

McCain was and is a loser. No one could have saved that ticket. Sarah Palin was a net plus but not enough.

  17. The mistake was the GOP electing McCain. Palin was the true conservative that brought him the votes. McCain wasn’t up for the job campaigning for it..

  18. With all due respect, Mr. Cheney, let me see if I interpret your assessment of Governor Palin correctly. You’re saying she is NOT a DC Beltway insider, not beholden to the RIGHT special interest groups, NOT financially tied to crony corporations like *cough* Halliburton, not a RINO like most Republicans in power, NOT a member of the corrupt Republican good old boys’ club? Is that what I’m hearing you say?

You are wrong about Sarah Palin, Mr. Cheney, as you have been about so much more. The 2008 Republican mistake was not Sarah Palin, but RINO John McCain and his cowardly team. The Democrats don’t need your help to trash talk one of the best defenders of America’s conservative movement since Reagan. Go start a war somewhere else. You don’t draw a single vote to the conservative cause.

  19. McCain was the mistake…..Sarah is more qualified to be president than that democrat in RINO clothing Johnny McCain. Cheney is the man who was chosen to find a VP for Bush…because I guess Bush was too incompetant to make such an important decision on his own…and EVERYONE Dick interviewed was a ” mistake “. He could only find himself worthy. There you have the roots of corporate fascist croneyism that made Bush such a disaster for the country and the free world.
