US Official: Russia Sends Troops to Syria as Peace Talks Fail

US military officials told MSNBC that Russia is sending troops to Syria to assist the Assad regime amid escalating violence.
MSNBC reported, via Free Republic:

Russia is sending armed troops to Syria amid escalating violence there, United States military officials told NBC News Friday, in a move certain to frustrate Western efforts to put pressure on the regime of President Bashir Assad.

Moscow has sent a ship carrying a small contingent of combat forces to guard Russia’s deep-water port and military base at the Syrian city of Tartus, the US officials said.

The U.S. officials also said Russia has not sent additional attack helicopters to the Syrian government, but replacement parts for the Russian helicopters the Syrians are already flying.

Russia is probably worried about what will happen if the Muslim Brotherhood takes over and gets their hands on all the WMD’s Assad has been storing from before the Iraq War. They have a bad problem with Muslim separatists already. Obama’s duplicitous policies have created an unbroken fabric of Islam from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea.

What are you going to do, have Obama commit America to fighting on the side the the MB and Al Qaeda? Get serious.

Many muslims have made public statements that they love death without really defining whose death, though they seem to celebrate Jewish and Christian deaths the most. While in our eyes death is always a tragedy, they are doing their thing and we would be culturally insensitive to interfere. Muslims will keep killing each other no matter what we do. It’s what their religion, which is their entire culture, is based on…death and destruction to those they disagree with.

We cannot influence the outcome in Syria. We can only spend more blood of innocent American soldiers and treasure we don’t have. I believe there is a sign posted at every border crossing into Syria….”KEEP OUT”. Let us heed that sign.

I don’t know the full deal on Syria, whether we should seek engagement, although I know that we shouldln’t get involvled for “humanitarian” reasons. We are not the policeman of the world; even Dems seem to agree to that.
And IF Syria is a serious matter calling for our involvement, thanks to the idiotic Libyan attack, it would be a lot more difficult for us to get involved. Why? Because we have squandered are international goodwill in the pointless attack on Libya. After Libya, Russia, and other countries, has put its guard up. We don’t just through our warplanes around so lightly, so casually like it’s a walk in the park, like we did in Libya.
