Baseball great Roger Clemens reacted to being found not guilty of all charges today in his perjury trial.

CBS News
reported:

Roger Clemens was acquitted Monday on all charges that he obstructed and lied to Congress in denying he used performance-enhancing drugs to build his long and brilliant career as one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history.

“I’m very thankful,” Clemens said, choking up as he spoke after the verdict. “It’s been a hard five years,” said the pitcher, who was retried after an earlier prosecution ended in a mistrial.

This trial was lengthy, but the deliberations were relatively brief. Jurors returned their verdict after close to 10 hours over several days. The outcome ended a 10-week trial that capped the government’s investigation of the pitcher who holds seven Cy Young Awards, emblematic of the league’s best pitcher each year…

…Outside, at one point, Clemens stopped to compose himself.

Accused of cheating to achieve and extend his success — and then facing felony charges that he lied about it — he declared, “I put a lot of hard work into that career.”

He said he appreciated “my teammates who came in and the emails and phone calls” of support. With his four sons standing behind him, Clemens thanked his attorneys, his family, his sisters and his wife.

His chief lawyer, Rusty Hardin, walked up to a bank of microphones and exclaimed: “Wow!”

Hardin said Clemens had to hustle to get to court in time to hear the verdict. “All of us had told Roger there wouldn’t be a verdict for two, three or four days, so he was actually working out with his sons almost at the Washington Monument when he got the call that there was a verdict.”

“It’s a day of celebration for us,”
Hardin added. “Justice won out.”

  1. Roger, spare us the tears. You should have been tried and found guilty of welshing on your Red Sox contract and for dissing Red Sox Nation for the crappy performances you gave at the tail end of your time in Boston. That old fast ball was nowhere to be seen in the mid-90s, but when you started to breathe that Canadian air, after getting free agency, it magically reappeared in Toronto.

    Final 3 years with Boston,
    1994, 9 – 7
    1995, 10 – 5
    1996, 10 – 13

    First 2 years in Toronto,
    1997, 21 – 7
    1998, 20 – 6

  2. :(
    Cry me a river!

It was once said by the great lawyer, Jerry Spence that “Money buys justice”. That is certainly the case here. Roger still took steroids and is getting away with it.

  3. Red Sox? Barf! Thanks Roger.

  4. The countrys burning. So who gives a sxxt about Roger Clemons and baseball.

  5. Who is Roidger trying to be? Weeper Boehner? He’s as big of a juicer as Barroids Bonds.

  6. Glad thats over. Can we have OUR freedom back now?

  7. In this case when I say “seriously” I mean it. EVERYTHING our nation faces, and Congress thought the big thing was steroids in baseball? Come on folks….

  8. Frank -

You are full of Fenway fecal matter, and I am a Sox fan. ’94 and ’95 – Raj was nursing injuries that limited his innings. Put the games together over the two years, in fairness instead of your bile, and he was 19-12.

In ’96, the Sox could not hit their way out of a paper bag. Clemens did his 30 starts that year – being healthy, and the Red Sox hit like Little Leaguers. I saw several games in Detroit that year, plus most of the rest on TV. His run support was the same thing you are slinging. It’s four letters, beginning with “s” and ending with “hit.”

He went to Toronto and New York, and even (GASP!) Houston, and was a winner. You’re right on the mark, Frank. Of course, the Sox sucked the whole latter half of the ’90′s, but don’t let that interrupt your narrative. Sheesh!

Redlite – when did God descend and give you His gift of omniscience? My guess? He has yet to do so, so your opinion is merely yours, and not worth much. For the record, who had more money to spend, Wizard? Clemens, or the stupid, dollar wasting Obama Justice Department. You ought to really try rational thinking.

Hoft, do you pay these guys for comments, or do they say these things for free?

  9. Who really cares about this?

  10. Psawyer – you should care because what happened to Clemens can happen to anyone, and the idiots and their sharks in DC have all the money to spend to drive you and anyone else into absolute poverty for no reason whatsoever!

  11. Stick it, JB.

    He’s a juicer and a jerk.

  12. There’s always a side, in every case, that thinks “justice won out”. It’s always the side that wins the case.

Good thing the courts never get it wrong!

  13. Winston-

You stick it! You are talking through your anal orifice.

You have no proof of anything but the detritus that floats around in your grey matter.

  14. CV1 -

And YOU would have gotten it right, had we had the foresight to leave it all up to you?

DO you guys think, or just key whatever slams into your brain at a given moment?

  15. jb off his meds tonight,

probably should call roger for some refills,

  16. GREAT VERDICT!

  17. The roids Roger did are nothing compared to what Bernanke has injected into the global financial system, and soon we will be paying the price for ZIRP and QE1 to infinity.

  18. Yeah, Harvey . . .

    What a stunningly intellectual comeback.

You could go to Little Green Footballs and be taken for one of their own.

    Heh.

  19. That jury sat through a ten week trial, and reached a verdict after 10 hours of deliberations, and some of you are calling them liars.

Did you follow all the evidence, or are you drawing your conclusions from those wonderful people in the press, who have demonstrated over and over and over that they can’t get the facts straight to save their lives?

    Just sayin’

  20. Well put, Valerie!

    Very well put!
