Leftie Bryant Gumbel: I Was Embarrassed By Sarah Palin’s Appearance on Today Show

Leftie Bryant Gumbel says he was embarrassed by Sarah Palin’s appearance on The Today Show.

Because it takes a serious journalist to properly report the news and current events between recipes.
Mediaite reported, via Lucianne:

Former Today anchor Bryant Gumbel, who co-hosted the program from 1982 to 1997, told The Daily Beast‘s Howard Kurtz he was “embarrassed” by Sarah Palin‘s appearance on the show last week.

“(Hosts) used to be judged not just on their popularity level but the extent to which they were capable of interviewing someone or reporting on a situation, or able to have a degree of gravitas,” Gumbel lamented. “Now that is secondary to being popular.”

While Palin’s Today Show co-hosting stint boosted viewership up from Monday to 5.5 million viewers, the move was panned by several media critics, perhaps most notably Jon Stewart who spent nearly 10 minutes last week lambasting her performance.

He is just envious that Palin did better than he did with a higher rating and a more devoted audience. . .

Sorry Bryant. . thanks for the Gum Ball!

  • Atlanta Media Guy

I’m embarrassed by his appearance on HBO every month. Thank God I don’t spend a dime to get that “network”. Hey don’t try so hard to not show your bias bro. Your little Today program is going down since it was a Today producer who tried to incite a riot by “editing” some key words out of the 911 call. Lame excuses from Capus and Griffin should have them looking for work, if Brian Roberts, Comcast CEO, knew what he was doing. Bryant, your brother has so much more class, integrity and honesty than you.

  • Gary

    gravitas?
He must be unaware that nearly 50 million people voted for Sarah for VP (and secretly hoped she wouldn’t have to be VP too long!).

  • Adirondack Patriot

Bryant Gumbel is just jealous that Sarah Palin is more of a man than he’ll ever be.

  • Sam Stone

Bryant WHO? And is he admitting the mass popularity of Palin?

  • Estragon

You have to admit that Palin just doesn’t have the air of arrogant self-importance and false veneer of gravitas that Gumbel always brought to the table. Few were capable of asking the prosaic questions with such stoic seriousness when he didn’t have a clue about the subject.

  • exceller

right, the same show which fired an executive for selectively editting the Zimmerman phone call to make him appear racist, and Gumbel is embarrased about Palin?

  • Katie Couric had “gravitas”?

  • dunce

Both gumbels, he and his brother, were affirmative action failures.

“While Palin’s Today Show co-hosting stint boosted viewership up from Monday to 5.5 million viewers, the move was panned by several media critics, perhaps most notably Jon Stewart who spent nearly 10 minutes last week lambasting her performance.”

…Wait, you mean the Left doesn’t like it when the Right gets to actually speak?

    Well, I’m shocked…

  • forest

“the move was panned by several media critics”

    I’m shocked.

Progressives are eliminationist haters. No matter what she does, they are going to hate it. They would only be satisfied is she were gone. Staying home and raising kids would piss them off. They want annihilation.

    Adirondack said:

“Bryant Gumbel is just jealous that Sarah Palin is more of a man than he’ll ever be.”

AGREED. Gumbel is just another leftist, whiney, sissy boy.

By the way, the real-life Palin makes Katniss, the protagonist in Hunger Games, believable. More than once I found myself thinking, “Sarah could do that!” Gumbel, on the other hand, would just curly up and cry ‘racism’ until someone put him out of his misery.

  • Chris in N.Va.

Hey!! Hey!! I used to be “somebody” that people watched (well, they had no choice, really).

    Remember me??

    Anybody?

    Hello, hello!?

Geez, what kind of temper tantrum does a guy need to throw to get a little attention and respect nowadays?

  • Chris in N.Va.

    Aww…..little Bry-Bry’t throwing a hissy fit.

Aren’t toddlers cute when they do that?

    No.

    Neither are supposed adults.

Somebody needs a diaper change and a nap.

  • Ohio Granny

    Dear fellow Old Folks,

Help me out here. I seem to remember that the first time I saw Bryant Gumbel on national TV it was some variety show or something. Any one remember that? I tried to check Wikipedia but they only jumped from his sports career to his Most Notable moments. Got a major chuckle out of some of his blurts.

Bryant, here’s a quarter, buy a clue. Americans are starting to yawn at the howling death throes of the liberal moon bats.

  • Mo

Who’s Jon Stewart? Is anyone still watching that show?

Who gives a crap what he says?

Gumbel is even more pathetic. Another hate-filled liberal (I know, it’s an oxymoron), jealous and pathetic. Sara was a HELL of a lot better to watch than that putz.

  • democraps suck

and bryant u sir are a racist mo fk’er too….another black trying to incite crap…god help us all…start packing carry conceal people…it’s gonna get ugly

Hey, y’all, it’s good old Bryant “Ah shoo do luvs dem White Winter Olympics” Gumball again.

He’s insulted about Sarah making an appearance on the Today Show? He was a f***ing embarrassment on there for years.

As for “gravitas”, I’ve got a terrier who leaves more gravitas in the backyard every day than Gumball could in a year of Sundays.

Go back and hide, Gumball. The woodpeckers are coming for you.

NEWSFLASH: Sarah Palin has just defeated Bryant Gumbel in an arm-wrestling match.

Also in tonights news: Doctors are working feverishly to reattach his arm, but are having trouble finding a trace of any muscles to suture.

Doctors credited Palin with saving Gumbel’s life after she ripped the hem off Gumbel’s skirt and used it as a tourniquette.

Eyewitnesses report that Palin was able to do all three tasks without spilling a drop of her beer.

    Gumble was unavailable for comment.

  • Hugh

Good one! HE was embarrassed? Rich. He takes himself WAY too seriously–especially when you actually examine his record. He is just as prissy a little leftie as Lauer. They are both pointed headed snipes–no offense to snipes.

  • SpideyTerry

“(Hosts) used to be judged not just on their popularity level but the extent to which they were capable of interviewing someone or reporting on a situation, or able to have a degree of gravitas”

Funny how liberals never complain about the lack of such qualities in their fellow liberals.

“the move was panned by several media critics”

    Aka Obama’s cheerleaders?

“perhaps most notably Jon Stewart who spent nearly 10 minutes last week lambasting her performance.”

Speaking of hosts without any skills, but are popular. Of course, Palin actually gets ratings. Maybe Comedy Central wouldn’t lose to Adult Swim every night if they put South Park repeats on in place of Stewart and Colbert.

  • SturJen

Let me get this straight: They GAIN more viewers with Sarah Palin on their show, but pan her attendance because it’s politically correct to excoriate her at every turn. So what do they want? More ratings or to pat each other on their Commie Socialist backs for slamming Palin?

It’s hilarious. You can’t live on dreams, dudes. Ratings mean money. DUHHHH>

    – Spoken by one who isn’t so popular. Ratings and profits drive this industry, and this guy, just like the rest of the libs, hasn’t figured that one out yet.

  • bigL

Palin has accomplished a lot more than you, Red.

  • Jim

If he was a true journalist and really cared about journalistic integrity – he should be embarassed at the entire NBC brand and what it’s become.

  • Father Dick Burns

Boy do those people like to play the victim card, and the race card, and the slavery card, and the poor us card, and the “I can skip ahead of you because of the color of my hide card,” and the “let’s level the playing field card” (of course their end of the playing field is artificially raised to improve their chances of any kind of parity), and the I’m poor because you stole my chances card, all simply because for 99 percent of them if they didn’t have some sort of artificial advantage they wouldn’t have a snowballs chance in heck of succeeding with their dumbo names, drugs stuffed up their noses, failing schools, and pants around their knees. This country is headed down the crapper and it’s morons like Bryan Gumball greasing the sides of the bowl! The Demonrats have the right idea, keep them tethered to the plantation with their hands out, their mouths open for junk food, and their minds full of Hollywood garbage.

    My take:

Leftie Bryant Gumbel says he was embarrassed by Sarah Palin’s appearance on The Today Show.

Why should he give a you-know-what? He’s been gone from that show for years.

  • Winston Wolfe

Back – way back – when Letterman was on NBC (and he was still funny), he used to just tune up Bryant Gumbel. In fact, Gumbel hated Letterman.

I found the clip where Letterman interrupts The Today Show – by using a megaphone – and it set off the feud.

    Good stuff from 1985.

NBC’s Today Turns 60: MRC’s Top 10 Most Obnoxiously Liberal Today Show Quotes

This week the Today show is celebrating 60 years of being on the air, and for over 20 of those years the MRC has been documenting the NBC morning show’s liberal agenda. From past anchors like Bryant Gumbel blaming “right wing” talk radio for the Oklahoma City bombing and Katie Couric trashing Ronald Reagan as an “airhead,” up through current anchor Matt Lauer wondering how Barack Obama would “manage the expectations” of being called “The Messiah,”
MRC analysts have been documenting the worst the show has offered.

The following are 10 of the most obnoxiously liberal examples of Today show bias from the MRC’s archive; for even more bias from the Today show anchors please visit the Profile in Bias pages of Gumbel, Couric, Lauer, Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry. (Top 10 Video Countdown after the jump)

Thhe October 26, 1999, issue of USA Today reported on Media Research Center (MRC) Chairman Brent Bozell’s letter to CBS News, commenting: “One of Bryant Gumbel’s frequent critics is after him again, less than a week before the former Today anchor returns to morning TV on CBS’ The Early Show. In a letter to CBS News president Andrew Heyward, Brent Bozell, head of the conservative watchdog group Media Research Center, warns that the new show could be a vehicle for ‘liberal propaganda.’ CBS dismissed Bozell’s comments, calling Gumbel ‘fair and tough.'”

Bryant Gumbel will retake a morning TV anchor chair on Monday, November 1. According to MRC’s Brent Bozell, “for 15 years, Mr. Gumbel used another morning program as a daily platform for personal liberal bias masquerading as news and commentary.” Bozell explained that “like everyone else, Mr. Gumbel is entitled to his own opinions — but not to his own set of facts. Yet he repeatedly used his anchor status to slant the facts to support his personal liberal opinions, misinforming millions.”

In fact, according to Brent Baker, MRC Vice President for Research and Publications, “short of Geraldo Rivera, few have done as much as Bryant Gumbel to lower the standards of professional TV journalism. As an interviewer, he can’t even pose a question without stumbling over his own liberal bias, and we have the audio- and videotape to prove it.”

The MRC News Division invites you to judge for yourself. Are the quotes below “tough and fair?”

I notice good ol Byrant didn’t mention being embarrassed by NBC News blatant attempt to skew public opinion by editing the Zimmerman 911 call. He also didn’t mention embarrassment due to the recent anti LDS rant presented by a host on MSNBC. Yeah, Bryant, tell us all about it how embarrassed you should be.

That’s ok. I’m embarrassed by Obama’s performance in The White House. The only difference is that when Palin is done she won’t have destroyed the country and created class and race warfare.
