Obama Kept Air Force One in the Air Extra Half Hour to Watch Knicks Game – Costing Taxpayers $90,000

Do as I say… Not as I do…
Barack Obama kept Air Force One in the air an extra half hour over Florida in order to watch the Knicks-Heat game.
Doug Ross reported on this from The Daily Mail:

The President lives a lavish lifestyle and loves his expensive luxury vacations, at a time while Americans are hurting. He is frequently seen eating burgers and fatty foods while in public at a time that the First Lady is promoting healthy eating by others.

This Administration seems to have a “Let Them Eat Cake – but make it a Diet Low Carb Cake” mentality.

President Obama flew to Florida this past week to explain high gas prices. According to the Washington Post, on his way to Florida this past Thursday, reporters were “perplexed” at the President’s 41 minute flight from Washington, DC to Orlando, Florida taking 1 hour and 15 minutes. The flight was in the air an extra 30 minutes, burning precious fossil fuels.

It does not seem a coincidence that the President landed right at half time of an NBA basketball game between the star studded Miami Heat and New York Knicks. Some theorized that the President delayed his flight in the air to watch more of the basketball game.

For the record, the military pegged the hourly cost of flying Air Force One at $181,000. So Obama’s extra time in the air cost taxpayers $90,500.

We all have to have skin in the game.

I’d love to use this tidbit of info to paint Obama in an unflattering light, again, not to mention another demonstration of his arrogant, narcissistic attitude. BUT…. This report from Doug Ross says that “Some theorized that the President delayed his flight in the air to watch more of the basketball game.” Theory and fact are 2 very different things.

There are few people that will cheer the day more loudly than I when Obama vacates the White House. But let’s stick to reporting facts, not rumors or theories.

Appalling. This man has no respect or regards for the tax payer and will accommodate his folly at all costs even in the face of an economic meltdown that he has facilitated. DISGUSTING. Get rid of this pampered, self centered, greedy tyrant.

Pure hackery. The British opinionist who penned this presented no evidence that there was a delay, no evidence that the press on the plane were concerned, nor did he offer any evidence that if there was a delay that it was related to an NBA game (although his point is that all Negroes like basketball). Trashy, but not revelatory.

I’m totally on board with you. I simply get tired of hack reporters like Andrea Mitchell and David Gregory reporting half-truths and flat out lies. When this happens, all conservatives like us stand up and bitch about them. I don’t want to “play” at their level. Obama provides us with enough fodder without us having to trump up a rumor…. although it is probably true.

I’ll say this though, the day the moving van comes to vacate that squatter from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, you and I will toast the momentous occasion with an appropriate beverage.

Non-isuse and totally wrong target. You’re really going to hit him over 90k while he dumped billions into black holes?

Where does it say that the taxpayers are to fund an unlimited budget for pResidential travel and vacations?

My company pays for work related travel … but personal travel is on my own tab…

Isn’t it supposed to be the same for pResidents?

back charge the mooslum personally….what a complete POS

  • man I have been arguing this one for past few days.
a MUCH more plausible scenario, since there is nothing preventing TV from staying on at all times, is they caught a tailwind that was a LOT faster than expected and needed to burn off some fuel instead of dumping it IF they were close to max landing weight.
and I’ve been catching crap for it too, supposedly the plane has all sorts of power and fuel, etc…so that somehow offsets a hard weight limit set by boeing for max landing weight.

I recommend that Gateway Pundit investigates the real cost of each presidential venture in Air Force One. We know the cost of operating the plane, presumably including the cost of the flight crew. What is never discussed is the cost of the armada that is part of every trip. There is a fleet of armored vehicles for the staff, aides, security personnel. The Marine One helicopter is frequently involved and must be transported or staged in advance. There too are flights for media, hangers-on, VIPs etc. The indirect costs forced upon the places that our emperor visits for traffic management, security etc are substantial also. I suspect the cost per hour on the most of these important, essential visits like the one to Detroit to address the UAW could cost us somewhere near $1 million /hr.

    Go for it!

“Some theorized that the President delayed his flight in the air to watch more of the basketball game.”

An alternate theory, an airman had to check the air pressure of the plane’s tire’s before landing, it’s all about fuel economy!

Story says “some THEORIZE he kept the plan in the air to watch the knicks”

The distance between DC and Orlando is 750 miles.

Top speed of a Air Force on is 630 MPH. That make for a trip time of
at least 1 hour and 11 minutes. That’s not taking into account the
time it takes to reach cruising altitude and speed.

To make a 750 mile flight in 41 minutes requires a speed of almost 1100 MPH.
Unless Air Force One is an F-15, that’s not happening.

So, you just reposted a complete BS story as fact, and no one bothered to question it.

    Hey ouldbollix,
You callen honkies racist. You be the racist for callen honkies ‘honkies’, In say.

  • Paddy

Get a grip, the top speed of a747 is about 560mph. 630mph requires a stiff tail wind.

  • Get a Grip

Paddy, Air Force One is faster than a normal 747. Either way, you can’t get from DC to Orlando on ANY
747 in the 41 minute flight time this story suggests. It us easily a 1.5 hour flight.

  • Mitch

What a dick. Spends our money like it’s going out of style.

He needs to be put on unemployment in November.

Gee, I’ll bet that was almost as much as it cost to haul piece of crap GWB out to the carrier to proclaim……..MISSION ACCOMPLISHED……SEEMS ALL THE REPUBLI’CONS FORGET THESE LITTLE GEMS.

    Gussler! sry.

  • Glenn Brannon

Mr. PRESIDENT, Hat’s off to you. If you want to watch a game, watch on my friend. The President of the United States is under so much pressure you people do not understand. He has done nothing that the rest of them have done. Look at what Bill Clinton, cost the taxpayers, will not even mention either of the Bush’s. Mr. President as a TAXPAYER myself, YOU SIR have my permission to watch a ball game ! Hail To The Chief !

  • John s

Every time I read about cost of flying any president, I marvel that nobody stops to review the factors which go into these estimates. Many of the costs are fixed. They would be there whether the president was in the air one hour or 140 hours in a month. Mr bolling should understand that. He claims to be a business guy. Sadly, every president and many others need security.

  • Sum Ting Wong

Every time I see a comment like this from one of you Obamabots, I marvel at how eager you are to defend someone like Obama. Keeping a jumbo-jet in the air costs fuel, which costs a bunch of money, and no matter how you slice it, we, the taxpayers, are the ones who get stuck paying for it. That wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that Obama is constantly running around telling us how important it is that WE make sacrifices.

John, your rush to defend your Messiah is touching, but it leaves a rather sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, wondering just how far you would go to defend this miserable man.

That being said, did you happen to notice that this post is almost two years old? That makes your comment even MORE disturbing ….
