Donald Trump was on CNN this morning with anchor Ashleigh Banfield to discuss Tuesday’s GOP primaries.
Santorum is not getting the whole Santorum thing.

“Rick Santorum was a sitting senator who in re-election lost by 19 points, to my knowledge the most in the history of this country for a sitting senator to lose by 19 points. It’s unheard of. Then he goes out and says oh ‘okay’ I just lost by the biggest margin in history and now I’m going to run for president. Tell me, how does that work? … That’s like me saying I just failed a test. Now I’m going to apply for admission to the Wharton School of Finance. Okay? He just failed a test…. And now he’s going to run for president. So, I don’t get Rick Santorum. I don’t get that whole thing.”

Here’s the trascript via CNN:

ASHLEIGH BANFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Do you think there’s something you can do for Mitt Romney because some people have said he’s just that guy you want to like but that he’s stiff or maybe too rich or out of touch. Can you help with the everyman approach? Do you see that as a role for you?

DONALD TRUMP: he’s really a much different guy than you see on television. And I understand that. He maybe comes across whichever way you want to say it. But he’s a great guy in person. He’s got a great personality, family, everything.

BANFIELD: But can you help him bring that to the little screen?

TRUMP: You know, I don’t know. I mean, I’m not sure. Maybe it doesn’t translate, but that doesn’t make him bad in terms of what he does. He’ll be a great president. The sad part about the world in which we live, if you do well in television you maybe can get elected to something. But that doesn’t mean you’re going to be any good at what the big picture is which is running the country.

BANFIELD: Talk to me about electability. Everyone talks abou electability being almost the most important thing among voters so far who’ve been going to the GOP polling stations. Recent poll I think ABC / Washington Post came out saying that if the race were Obama versus Romney, Obama would beat him by 6 points and if that were Newt up against Obama, that difference would be 11 points. So it’s not looking good at this juncture…

TRUMP: Well 6 points is nothing.,..

BANFIELD: for the republicans…

TRUMP: and so early. They haven’t really focused on Obama. // The sad thing is they’re focusing on each other the republicans. And it’s rough. It’s a rough, rough nasty primary. But they’re focusing, they haven’t really hit Obama yet.

BANFIELD: Have the right candidates dropped out?

TRUMP: Huntsman never had a chance, if you look. You look at somebody like Ron Paul, he’s interesting. Rick Santorum, look, Rick Santorum was a sitting senator who in re-election lost by 19 points, to my knowledge the most in the history of this country for a sitting senator to lose by 19 points. It’s unheard of. Then he goes out and says oh ‘okay’ I just lost by the biggest margin in history and now I’m going to run for president. Tell me, how does that work? How does that work?

BANFIELD: He’s doing well. He’s not only doing well, he won Iowa.

TRUMP: How do you run for, that’s like me saying I just failed a test. Now I’m going to apply for admission to the Wharton School of Finance. Okay? He just failed a test. // And now he’s going to run for president. So, I don’t get Rick Santorum. I don’t get that whole thing.

BANFIELD: Is there a place for you in a Romney cabinet?

TRUMP: Well, it’s certainly not something I’m looking for but if I can do anything to help this country, we have to do something to help the country. We can’t keep losing our jobs to other countries and losing really respect.

  1. Gas bag.

  2. And how many times has trump gone bankrupt? One would think he’s never had any failures….really lame

  3. Republicans (Conservatives did long ago) really need to totally distance themselve from Trump.

He’s dangerous to the point he’s all about himself and would do anything to stroke that ego, even if it were a sudden change of endorsements to say Obama.

He’s like Glenn Beck. He knows his particular part of the business, but he’s almost sociopathic in his self-centered narcissim.

That Romney and Newt were hat hand over his endorsement is troublesum.

  4. I wonder what would be Romney’s loss if he dared to run for reelection in MA?

  5. Guess What? I don’t care what Trump says about any of these candidates. The guy has no business in our business. Do you other thing, please, whatever that may be. Making money, that good, just stay out of Politics for a while.

  6. Hey Donald…how many points did Mitt lose by in Missouri.
    Show me.

  7. He’s not the only one.

Mr. Santorum is a decent man. He has heart-felt beliefs. There’s no question that he’s a stout social conservative.

He also has not shown the public one single thing to demonstrate that he could be President.

Sorry, but he’s not been an executive of anything. He’s a one-term Senator (yes, yes, he lost a re-election bid in ’06 when no Pub could win, but still). He has no demonstrated expertise in business, the economy or foreign affairs.

Indeed, he has less executive experience than Sarah Palin had when she was nominated to be VP.

Would someone explain to me how Mr. Santorum is going to crack heads in the Congress and the Executive Branch to get the country rolling? Fix the economy? Stand up to thugs around the world like Assad, the Iranians and Kim III?

He’s not even going to be able to push through his most fervently held beliefs on the social side. Does anyone think he’ll ram through a constitutional amendment on abortion? On same-sex marriage?

    Seriously. He’s a back-bencher at a time when we need a leader.

Mr. Trump doesn’t get it? I don’t get it either.

  8. Trump endorsement may have lost a few votes when he endorsed Romney. Santorum won in a sweep and for Trump, may or may not had anything to do with it. but Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado didn’t have Trump on their mind, a few maybe.

Americans aren’t on board with a Celebrity, especially, Trump, he just can’t keep his big mouth shut.

  9. And we care what Trump says…Why?

  10. The Donald needs to STFU.

  11. Why does Gateway Pundit keep posting articles about this idiot? Who cares what he think? he is a media whore and you are playing right into his hands.

  12. Did you see how Santorum depressed voter turnout? Oooohhh, that can’t be good. Let the vetting begin.

  13. @#2 Linda Price:
    Excellent point: thread winner.

  14. this just shows the demoturd voter turnout to make a mockery of the repubs at this point

  15. Santorum is a big spender, but he has a nice big family and I think Americans are beginning to see the merit in that.

  16. Attention conservatives!!! Please try to remember this: Trump is a useless blowhard, do NOT listen to him.

  17. Trump? Trump? Who is that? Should I know him? Should I care?

  18. Santorum was a two term staunchly conservative Senator in a purple blue state (PA). While it’s true he lost 58 – 42 in the 2006 race, he never had a prayer of winning. Instead of mailing it in, he campaigned vigorously, and never abandoned his principles. Santorum is a proud conservative who will wear the banner and communicate it effectively.

This race just got alot more interesting. If we lose in 2012, let’s go down fighting, choking on our own blood (to paraphrase Churchill).

So, I don’t get Abraham Lincoln. I don’t get that whole thing”

  26. I would not have to hold my nose and vote for Santorum. I cant say the same for Romney, so I am glad that he swept these. Trump, we know that Romney would sweeten your pockets! We see why you like him.

Too bad we dont! And of course, it is “We the people” and not “You, the Kingmaker”!!

  30. Trump has egg on his face, he endorses Romney only to see him lose big the following week. This man has no credibility and I couldn’t care less what he thinks about a candidate.

  31. What people like Trump can’t understand is that we will make up our own minds.

  32. Gee, maybe The Donald should have educated himself about what exactly made the primaries so “nasty.” More precisely, who made them nasty. For those who were watching, it was Mitt Romney, who decided to use a pack of lies told by Democrats to pound on Newt Gingrich.

I don’t mind negative ads, as long as they are true. But, they have to be true. People who fail to distinguish between ads that are honestly critical of a candidate and ads that are lies, calling them all “negative,” generally don’t want to admit that their guy is a liar.

Romney’s claims about Newt’s ethics charge are false

  33. Shocking confession. A global capital elite doesn’t get it why the middle class is rejecting their precious silver spoon Mittens and going with absolutely anything but. If everyone dropped out but Mitt and a dead possum, the possum would have gotten 75% to Mitt’s solid 25% .

  34. It works like this – Your a business man who is about to go bankrupt bigger than any businessman before you. Then you survive and write a few books and get a tv show and all of a sudden you are a celebrity, that is how it works. Get it???

  35. TRUMP: look, Rick Santorum was a sitting senator who in re-election lost by 19 points, to my knowledge the most in the history of this country for a sitting senator to lose by 19 points. It’s unheard of.

Romney lost to Teddy Kenmedy in 1994 by 9 points after spending over $7 million of his own money in the second most expensive race that year.

When he ran for Governor in 2002 abd won by 5 points. He spent over $6 million of his own money, a state record at the time.

    Romney’s history is buying elections.

  36. I don’t get voting for a Democrat (i.e., Romney) in the Republican primaries either!

  37. This is what Tea Party has been saying about the country club RINOS the last 3 years….” They just don’t get it” … Well let me help you Mr Rump….This quote for the WV Daily Mail says it blunt…” If you cannot put away a 98-pound weakling who is clinging to the ropes, maybe you should be the one who packs it in.”

  38. Go Rick Go! I’ll be sending you money today!

  39. Trump will whore himself for ANY attention he can get. The race is already a circus as it is! Trump is a windbag and full of hot air…

It should be obvious to anyone that Trump is an establishment mouthpiece, how can you take anything the orange haired buffoon says seriously considering at one time he endorsed Hillary Clinton for President.

  40. This ad is critical of a candidate. It is not false.

This ad is critical of a candidate. It is not false.

    http://thehill.com/video/campaign/202435-pro-gingrich-pac-recycles-mccain-ad-attacking-romney

This is a false ad. It takes a complete answer from a candidate, deletes part of it, and repeats the story it wants to tell, instead of what the candidate said.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3jYsdSSamk&feature=related

In the 2008 election campaign, Romney also stunk up the place with lies about John McCain and Mike Huckabee. Those stuck with the eventual nominee, and I know it, because I watched people continue to hold those lies against those men, throughout the commentary on the last campaign.

  45. Trump’s only allegiance is money. Look who he has politicaly supported over the years.

  46. Decision’s been made folks. The Elites of the Donks and the GOP (same thing!) have decided the winner. It is Obama and the spoils will be spread around even if by regulation. Donald wants to be on winning side- Hence the pig piling on the GOP candidates. And nothing, zero, comments on obama.
Pretty sick of it. My local talk radio hosts have kids and yet rip and moick the GOP most of theday whn on. Say anything on Obama? hah! The station has said no jokes on Obama or truth eiither, i bet as the silence is deafening

  48. LOL #26 Adirondack! Perfect spearing.

  49. That Trump endorsement certainly had a short shelf life

  50. Banfield asks Trump if Santorum is “maybe too rich.”

  51. “So, I don’t get Rick Santorum. I don’t get that whole thing.”

It’s really very simple – the people that would be expected to vote Republican don’t want a RINO.

    Got that? NO MORE RINOs.

  52. The Trump hair thing, I don’t get it – is it a comb over, a fluffy rug? I think he supported Romney out of hair envy.

  53. now I’m going to run for president. Tell me, how does that work?

It works because Romney is not a Republican and Paul is a nutcase on certain issues.

  54. one day somebody’s going to develop a super-sized high-power magnifying mirror and Trump will walk past it,and we’ll never have to hear from him again.

  55. PLEASE keep yapping Donald! Your endorsement of Willard did wonders.

  56. Trump has egg on his face, he endorses Romney only to see him lose big the following week

    And we have a winner!

  57. On the other point of Romney being 6 points behind Obama and the rest of them being further behind, that’s only because nobody’s really taken aim at him yet in their ads. Romney has been running mostly anti-everybody else ads for the primary.

Once the primary is over, his attack team will be “focused like a laser” on Obama’s record. And unlike 2008, we don’t have quite as many deluded hopeheads willing to overlook all the warning signs. Plus he has 3+ years to defend and a Justice Department on the brink of being indicted (how does that work anyway?).

The so-called “48% support” for Obama is closer to 35% for actual voters, and even less on most of the individual issues. Once those issues are being hammered all day every day, and all they have is Obama with his stock answer “it’s not true”, we’re looking at Reagan 1980 all over again.

Don’t let ‘em get you down. That was the one and only point of this story, to put out the message that none of our guys can beat Obama. It wasn’t even about Donald Trump. He’s just the useful idiot.

Does he not understand what happens to bitter clingers who put principles of God ahead of the Party’s needs? Communists cannot comphrend this. We do understand Romney and Barrack.

  60. Hey Donald Douche Bag. Listen up, Romney ran against Ted Kennedy in 1994 when demacraps lost the house and senate, meaning that republicans had the advantage. Kennedy won the election with 58 percent of the vote to Romney’s 41 percent. Gee Whiz isn’t that 17 point spread! Why don’t you yap about that Donald? Santorum lost his re-election during the demacraps takeover. Why the hell does anyone care about Donald anyway? Really?

  61. Well Trumpy your a Romneybot(cousins to Obots) that makes you a run of the mill dolt.

  62. Sprinkle Boy
Not to step on your point too much, but as the Donald said, Santorum was a sitting senator.
That was an unusual loss for an incumbent.

Kennedy on the other hand was the entrenched incumbent in the Romney scenario, and it is not unusual for Senate challengers to take a major shellacking. It’s due to the local party machines being what they are. We couldn’t even unseat Rep. Barney Frank or Rep. Charlie Rangel after their atrocious records. Part of the meme “all politics is local”.

  63. Sour grapes? Trump – shame on you!

What a roller coaster ride these primaries have been. All I can say is – Santorum better be wearing all his gear cause it’s sack the QB time.

  64. Well its a good thing Trump endorsed Mitt otherwise Newt would have to dig his way out of this hole lol

Good Job Trump…. keep talking cause your so smart when it comes to Politics :)

  65. Trump; Ya win some ya lose some–YOU know this better than anyone

  66. TRUMP YOU STICK TO HIS OWN BUSINESS. GO BANKRUPT THEN BECOME A MILLIONARE THEN GO BROKE ETC….

  67. My own take on Trump (and again not that he’s the actual story here) is that he might endorse one candidate only to turn around and switch his endorsement later. That’s more likely to happen if Romney isn’t going strong after Super Tuesday. For Trump, it’s about media hype and self-promotion, nothing more. He’s not an issues guy so there’s nothing for him to endorse. If Gingrich had looked like the likely winner, it probably would have been Gingrich.
    Just meaningless.

  68. I dont get Trump. I dont get why anyone would give a rip on what he says.

  69. How many parties has the idiot register into. Maybe if Trump could settle down and stop being so fickled he might learn something about REAL CONSERVATISM AND not his cocked eyed view of it.

The guy knows a little about every thing but a master of nothing. He really needs to stick to his day job.

  70. I do see him on Greta quite a bit. Question? Why!

  71. And another who needs to stay quite: McCain. Wow, one thing he is doing is going to Egypt. Do that but truthfully he is not doing the Republican Party any with endorsements. I think his endorsement of Romney was a mistake. And Trump’s was too.

And lets not forget that whatever faults Obama does not possess, Romney and his brilliant team will simply manufacture. They’ve developed a real talent for slander, lies, and innuendos.

Romney began his slimefest in Iowa, but it was in Florida that he threw caution to the wind and embarked upon his ill advised muckraking. carpet bombing campaign against Newt Gingrich. Romney’s duplicity and dishonesty in Florida will hang around his neck like the proverbial dead albatross. Sure he won, but at what cost? He has revealed himself to be nothing more than an unscrupulous politician who will tell any lie and slander any opponent in order to get elected.

We already have someone like that in the White House. Why would we want another?

  75. Why do people continue to go to Donald Trump for his opinion on the latest GOP primary winner? He has slightly more influence then Herman Caine at this point.

  76. I think Trump is jealous of Immelt’s GE making 15 Billion in profit and paying 0 taxes. Immelt bribed Obama with 100 million and made 1500 times the bribe back in taxes. Trump has been shilling for Obama for months, talking of 3rd party runs and now endorsing the easiest guy for Obama to beat, Romney. Trump wants in on the graft too. Warren Buffett is shilling for Obama too on the pay more taxes thing because Buffett paid nothing, just like Immelt, but wasn’t smart enought to bribe Obama first. Now Buffet is just trying to keep his ass from rotting in jail. No real danger of that though in an election year. He’ll just kick Obama half the taxes he owes and Obama will tell the IRS to shut the eff up.

  77. So Trump is confused and baffled when true conservatism surfaces. Gee, no surprise about that.

  78. Geez: WHy do we have to go to the British tabloids to see this super upper crust haute fashion fundraiser for Obama?
Scarlette Johansson’s twin bro works for Obama? Is there any major 2%-1% designer who DIDN’T contribute to Obama that night?

VOGUE big wig hosted it. Same VOGUE that Madonna promoted at Super Bowl, during pagan ritalistic kabbala soft porn act.

  79. Ok, Trump said “He doesn’t get it.”

Looks like Romney, who thinks in terms of classes, along with CNN’s Solidad, are not the only people to “Don’t get” or “Don’t understand” what the conservative movement is all about.

Trump’s endorsment is like an endorsement from Donald Duck & a great fit for Romney. And I suggest the Real Estate salesman read a couple books, beginning with Mark Levin’s Liberty and Tyranny.
