It Begins… Christian Leaders Vow to Be Jailed Rather Than Cave to Obama’s HHS Law

In the last 24 hours Pastor Rick Warren pledged on his twitter page:
“I’d go to jail  rather than cave in to a goverment mandate that violates what God commands us to do. Would you? Acts 5:29

Likewise, one of the nation’s top Boptist leaders Dr. Richard Land vowed to do time rather than comply to Obama’s new HHS mandate.

Lifesite News reported:

One of the most influential evangelical leaders in the United States says Christians should go to jail rather than comply with the Obama administration’s mandate to provide all contraception, including abortion-inducing drugs, in their health care plans.

Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), told “we will not comply” with the Dept. of Health and Human Services’ mandate requiring religious institutions to cover abortifacient products such as Plan B, Ella, and the IUD.

“We want the law changed, or else we’re going to write our letters from the Nashville jail, just like Dr. King wrote his from the Birmingham jail,” Dr. Land said.

Today Barack Obama spoke with democrats and doubled down on his HHS mandate that forces Christian organizations to provide free abortifacient and birth control drugs to all employees.

Obamacare has lots of penalty provisions, mostly fines.

Are there criminal penalties for refusal to comply?

I like the spunk of the quotes from the pastors, but would they really be facing jail time?

Yes, as an employer there are criminal penalties for failure to comply with federal “workplace regulations” up to and including jail time.

What hasn’t been figured out yet is what happens when I burn my insurance card and post the video on YouTube for everyone to see.

My guess is jail time but we’ll find out soon enough if the court fails to do the right thing and throw out O Blah Blah care in its entirety…

When tens of millions begin to refuse to sign up for mandated insurance it will end.

Don’t forget that numerous religious leaders and their churches have come out in support of government restrictions on religious freedoms. The following churches (including mine, ack) are proudly in partnership with the Obama administration’s decision, including Catholics:

Catholics for Choice; the Central Conference of American Rabbis; Concerned Clergy for Choice; Disciples Justice Action Network; Episcopal Divinity School; Episcopal Women’s Caucus; Hadassah; the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation; Jewish Women International; Methodist Federation for Social Action; Muslims for Progressive Values; the National Council of Jewish Women; Planned Parenthood Clergy Advisory Board; the Rabbinical Assembly; the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice; the Religious Institute; Society for Humanistic Judaism; The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism; Union Theological Seminary; Unitarian Universalist Association; United Church of Christ; and Women’s League for Conservative Judaism represent millions of religious leaders and people of faith across the country.

“Catholics for Choice.” Would that be synonymous with “Nancy Pelosi Catholics” or simply “Liberals who used to be Catholic?”

  • Patty

“We want the law changed, or else we’re going to write our letters from the Nashville jail, just like Dr. King wrote his from the Birmingham jail,” Dr. Land said.

ALLELUIA, I intend to do whatever I can to help. Obama is a dictator. He is a Marxist and he follows the rules of radicals. And if Obama can do this what else can he do. This is no a president duty. He serves us and protects his nation. If he is re-elected he will elect liberals into The Supreme Court. America needs to wake up and Challenge this President to stop shoving mandates, laws and regulations down our throats.

    He needs to be impeached.

Dr. Richard Land should never march alone. We need to get behind him, this is the Revolution.

If it isn’t I don’t know what is.

    OT Sort of:

Is Obama Really In Good Shape For Re-election? Or Is The Media Lying Again?

Barack Obama7639 Is Obama Really In Good Shape For Re election? Or Is The Media Lying Again?

Gallup Polling is caught between what its thousands of interviews say about Barack Obama’s reelection chances and what it longs for the facts to be.

They do their best to hide the truth with suspiciously timed releases and obfuscating language. Nevertheless, embedded in its latest report on voter attitudes, Gallup’s delivers more bad news for Obama. Try as it did to put a happy face on the dangerously low level of “satisfaction” in the electorate, Gallup can’t do much with a 22% rate. Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Ronald Reagan all had more than 41% rates on their way to reelection, but George H.W. Bush was at 22% in 1992 when he lost to Clinton.

Voters’ sentiment on the economy shows more weakness for Obama with 56% saying it is getting worse while just 38% see it getting better. This -25 in Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index compares too favorably to Bush senior’s -31 during June of 1992 to provide any real encouragement for Obama.

Gallup’s attempt to talk up the improvement in the unemployment rate as reported last week (8.3%) runs into a serious problem since for the least two years Gallup has been saying the real rate (8.6%) is higher than being reported. When the underemployed numbers (18.7%) are included things get still worse for Obama.

The current 71% of Americans with economic matters on their minds is reminiscent of Bush senior’s ill-fated reelection campaign 20 years ago.

    Rasmussen’s numbers

The Rasmussen Report shows us the sour attitudes of “uncommitted” voters which carries a subsurface problem not being focused on by many analysts. The sample is small (only 12%) but the trend is clear: just 20% of these likely voters approve of Obama’s job performance.

This 12% “uncommitted” could mean 88% of voters have already made a decision. With the enthusiasm rates among Democrats as low as they are a recovery by Obama looks less likely by the month.

Note: neither of these reports was completed before the showdown with the Catholic Church over the issue of forcing faith based institutions to offer abortion services as part of their employee health insurance plans.

If Obama is on track for reelection, there is little evidence to support it.

  • I pray our nation wakes up…or these will be the first, and by the time we make a stand, we may end up standing alone.

  • Patty

The Army-Obama-Pelosi coordination is obvious and troubling.

There are two very important lessons here. First, there is no doubt that a state-sponsored war on Catholicism is actively underway. This is not surprising, because the Obama election has been consistently misinterpreted to give validation to full liberalism, and full liberalism is founded on the pernicious myth of personal “selfism.”

This loveless and disordered brand of freedom, with libertinism being its most visible manifestation, relies heavily on the shaky architecture of relativism (a different set of rules for each individual). Libertines hate nothing more than to hear the words “You should not.” Full liberalism is therefore naturally threatened by — and, if possible, demands the irrelevance of — any significant objective moral system.

The Catholic Church, with its dogma, magisterial authority, and two-thousand-year-old tradition, is the most visible and significant source of objective morals and norms in the world today. It is liberal enemy number one.

Fortunately, the Catholic Church has overcome state-sponsored enemies many times before. However, it has always done so with only the one-two punch of God’s grace and human witness. This gets to the second lesson.

Lay Catholics — not just bishops and priests — must bear witness through their thoughts, words, and actions. The mere fact that Obama, Pelosi, and others have accurately cited cafeteria Catholic practices as tenets of the state-sponsored faith proves Christ’s words: “He who is not with me is against me” (Matt 12:30).

As with all of His teaching, Christ said it, and He meant it. Any faith that lacks external manifestations is false, and Christians must “not give others to understand, because of their passivity … that they do not hold their faith to be the most important thing in their lives”2. Obama’s and Pelosi’s eager exploitation proves that Catholic-lite is not helpful in the witness and apostolate departments.

Regardless of how Catholics voted in 2008, they probably didn’t anticipate having to choose between unjust government policies and their faith. Although it may not seem so, such a choice is a gift — a gift of the opportunity to visibly demonstrate one’s convictions and faith. It is an opportunity that, if courageously taken, will accrue interest in the soul bank and be of incorruptible benefit. As Pope Pius XI said, “[l]et us thank God that he makes us live among the present problems. It is no longer permitted to anyone to be mediocre.” Catholics, now is your chance. An incredible opportunity has presented itself: the opportunity of witness.

So what’s it going to be? For or against?

    I agree with you retire05.
I do not for one minute think that the Catholic Church has their head in the right place when it comes to Obama but in this instance, thank God, I think they have been pushed over the line. AND I really doubt it is over contraception(like condoms or the pill) as much as it is over the other absolute objectionable practices. I think the idiots finally realized that Obama fully intends that they support and perform abortions. It took them long enough the wake the hell up, and I am very grateful. But I’m not holding my breathe for more Obama opposition.
They just are too damn wimpy and mindlessly liberal.

Regardless of how Catholics voted in 2008, they probably didn’t anticipate having to choose between unjust government policies and their faith.

Cardinal-Designate Dolan: President Obama Needs To Stop ‘Intruding Into Internal Life Of A Church’

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There was a sharp rebuke Wednesday from Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan that put even more pressure on the president to calm a widening election year uproar. The issue at hand was the president’s insistence that Catholic institutions provide free birth control to their employees.

Dolan came to the South Bronx to bless a library, but he had no blessings — just harsh words — for President Barack Obama, who wants Catholic institutions to pay for birth control, the morning after pill and other services for people who work for them.

“The federal government should do what it’s traditionally done since July 4, 1776, namely back out of intruding into the internal life of a church,” Dolan told CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

The leader of the New York Archdiocese picked up support from Speaker John Boehner, who said either Obama reverses the policy or the House will.

“The federal government has drifted dangerously beyond its constitutional boundaries. This attack by the federal government on religious freedom in our country must not stand and will not stand,” Boehner said.

Patty, the AT article includes a statement from Obama where he quotes the Guttmacher Institute. Most people don’t know that the Guttmacher Institute is just an arm of Planned Parenthood. So eliminate the middle man, and Obama was basically spouting the rhetoric of PP.

The problem I have is all the outrage now being shown by Catholic leaders when they have been more than happy to crawl into bed with the Democrat Party although Democrats have been trying to destroy their faith for years. Want proof? Well, let me present you to C. J. Doyle, head of the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts. In this speech, Doyle is singing the praises of Michael J. Curely, a MA politian, and Democrat, who would have made Huey Long look like a Boy Scout.

“The conventional story of James Michael Curley is a tale of vivid personalities, heartrending tragedies, vexing scandals (he went to jail twice) and turbulent bare-knuckle politics. Lots in all of this drama, however, is Curely’s substantive and strikingly progressive record on a host of social justice issues including the rights of labor, access to healthcare and equal pay for women.”

Note the two words I put in italics: progressive and social justice.

Doyle is Catholic, but above all, he is a dedicated Democrat, just like most Catholic leaders. He climbed into bed with his Marxist buddies but now, he is shocked that Marxists would really act like Marxists.

In all the letters written by the Catholic bishops read in all the parishes this past Sunday, not ONE of them called for Catholics to vote against the Democrats who are hell bent on destroy their faith. NOT ONE. And now, after almost 80 years of the hiarchy of the Church selling Catholics down the river, I am supposed to be surprised?

I may have been born at night, but it wasn’t last night.

  • mioparrhesia

well if a Priest will (and did) order another Priest arrested (and he was) ON CATHOLIC PROPERTY by private police, (please see vid at link below), Pastor Warren better be sure he saved some of his money for bail and a good attorney. Well, maybe not for bail, as the Priest in this video was unaware that in the dark of the night before this occurred, the law was magically changed and they could not bail out immediately after arrest for a misdemeanor on a Friday AND no visitors (except legal counsel) were allowed to see him. Nice huh? At least a 100 Priests living in pretty decent digs 1.2 miles from the jail, and they send this 70+ year-old Priest to jail FOR THE WEEKEND.

#19, Joe S. when you put a sign in your yard that you support gun control and then go off leaving your doors unlocked, sooner or later, you’re gonna get robbed.

  • WillofLa

Just think how easy it would be for the government to take down all the rest of the churches if they could take down the Catholic church in America. Of course taking on the Catholic church would be like taking on the Islamic cult. Of course that’s a very bad comparison. I’m just saying that Obama is stepping on it.

One of the first things we learned about Obama and what he learned from Saul Alinsky was, in Rules For Radicals it clearly says that you don’t take on the big issues, the big deeply emotional sects of the society, like guns, religion, health care, transportation, housing, food. Those things are far to close to the hearts of the people and the only thing someone like Obama could do to those things is to chip away at the edges, unless he is in a position that would enable him to be supported both inside the government and outside the government. That way if he gets opposition he’ll be able to fight it off and prevail.

Obama must be in somekind of ethareal fog because this country is in no way ready for him to take on the churches, any of them, let alone the Catholic church. Years ago when all the scandal began about the homosexuality in the Catholic church, that in a way was an attack on the church. Many people left the church.

Part of Obama’s problem is he has not learned how to judge whether or not American’s are well enough beaten down in order for Obama to make the kind of moves he’s making. We are not beaten down enough for him to make the kind of moves he’s making and it’s backfiring in his face and he’s getting burned. But Obama has a way of covering up his embarrassment and can back peddle out of harms way relatively fast. And of course he has a good talent of dumping the real trouble he stirs up onto someone else. In this case it’s Sabelius who’ll catch most of the heat. But to late because we already know it was his idea and not Sabelius who pushed this onto the church.

I’m proud of the fact that finally someone has the guts to stand up to him and tell him that they are ready either go to jail in taking him on. That ought to upset Obama very much because he’s not used to people standing up to him, and, oh yeah, “sticking their finger in his face!” That has got to be the best picture there ever was.

  • Passably Affable

Is it only religious institutions that we want to be exempted? Isn’t the 1st Amendment an individual right? Shouldn’t anyone with religious objections be exempted?

  • Good for them. Religious liberty is a fundamental part of our nation and free nations everywhere.

Obama is having his Jafar Absolute Power overdose. Not content with being dictator of the entire world…He is grasping for even more power by transforming the Pope into his foot stool. Evil powered directly from Satan by the ritual murder of unborn millions…..>>>

  • Miss Marple

The exemption that was discussed this fall was for all groups and individuals. Archbishop Dolan came out of that meeting convinced that Obama would allow the conscience clause for all. He talked about how sympathetic and friendly Obama was, and felt very encouraged.

I knew that Obama had lied to him, because he is all about being charming in person and then knifing people in the back. Archbishop Dolan is a good man who hasn’t confronted this type of evil in one so high-placed.

Any exemption now given will be taken away as soon as the election is over. I don’t trust anyone in the White House. They will break any word they give in a New York minute.

Also, this could have been solved by giving vouchers to all women who wanted contraception and couldn’t get it through their health care plan. however, contraception is not the point of this edict; the point is to divide and destroy the Church.

  • maraz

If any are jailed… they should challenge his elligibility during their court case… they should have standing to do so… especially since Obama has released the BC… which means it is no longer private and anyone has a right to examine the original to ensure it’s authenticity now… not to mention that Obama’s not a natural born citizen according to original intent definition of founding fathers constitution documents which are the foundation law of the land.

Discovery can be a problem for Obama if he wants to take the fight to the people.

I can imagine that Obama probably feels like he can get away with anything because, well, he has. I have called and emailed my Congressman and Senators and asked them all why isn’t there anyone in the government who will stand up and stand behind the Constitution and stop Obama. I haven’t gotten any clear answer yet. It seems that with people like Mark Levin (read his new book “Ameritopia” and understand why America needs to be saved by every citizen and Obama deported back to Kenya where he belongs), who sometimes thinks to much like a lawyer and believes that no judge worth his appointment would take the case and risk everything. And if the case failed Obama might send people to jail for conspiricy to bring false charges against a sitting President. But I can tell you right now that Mark Levin’s Landmark Legal Foundation is already involved in several cases against Obama and the unConstitutional crimes he’s committed, and some in his administation who have committed unConstitutional crimes. So it’s not that Mark believes what he’s telling many people who’ve called into his show and asked him to stop Obama. And he’s always said, “How?” Hell!! What do you mean HOW, how else, even if you have to go to the oval office and grab him by the neck and drag his boney butt out of the White House, Obama must be stopped even before the November elections.

Look at what he’s already doing to us as a people. He’s turning people against the rich, he’s turning people without jobs against people with jobs while eliminating as many jobs as possible, he’s turning Christian’s into walking targets for every scum bag there are, he’s turning young college types against everyone who has jobs, money, bankers, investers, conservatives, Christian’s, and anyone who really do make up the 98% who make up everyone who aren’t the OWS protesters. There is no 99%, there is no 1%, there are working American’s who make alot of money, and American’s who don’t make so much money, and everyone inbetween. That is 100% American’s who have the Constitutional right to generate their own wealth. Something liberals hate and that is people who accomplish things in their life and make money on their own who aren’t Black on Welfare. If the OWS protesters want to protest against something why don’t they protest against Blacks who won’t get off Welfare and Food Stamps and get out and make something of themselves. If there is anything that takes money from the economy it’s government benefits for Blacks, and illegal Mexican aliens. Stop that, and we’re talking about trillions of dollars freed up to go back into the banks, small businesses, and investors.

  • Multitude

    Devil’s advocate here…

If you look at Obama’s full out disregard for the Constitution, across the church issue, his proposed seizure of guns to “protect Mexico” (prior GWP post), his utter disregard and complacency regarding the election, ask yourself this:

What if Obama lost and didn’t recognize it? Or furthermore, just determined that times were not “safe” for elections this fall?

Obama’s figured out that our government, like contract law, is only good when honorable people are parties to it. Once the wolf is allowed to be a party to the social contract, the gig’s up for decent people. Tyranny arises.

Tell me, who would or could do a damn thing if Obama decides he is the permanent sovereign? SCOTUS? We’re one justice away from seeing that option evaporate, and some suggest we’re already there. The Senate? I’m sure Harry Reid will shed a tear of sorrow for your pathetic ass. The House alone can’t do anything.

If Obama knows that there’s not a damn thing anyone can do when he stays on “due to the emergency needs of the people” (and flies his domestic drones to “protect us), wouldn’t he act like he is now?

Just a thought experiment, of course.

  • katy

Too bad Rick Warren wasn’t this convicted when he buddied up to Obama during the election.

And this is the Rick Warren who is instituting Christlam ( an interfaith community of Christianity and Islam) in his Church?

ppfftt. I’ll bet he won’t go if push comes to shove or…he’ll get a wink and a nod from Obama and “get out of jail free card” from the WH.

  • The downside is, if they are convicted of a felony, they could lose their right to own a gun and their right to vote. More damage to the “good guys” side, and fewer foot soldiers in the war against tyranny. They could even be convicted as “domestic terrorists” by this regime and its corrupt DOJ and courts. The culture war is really heating up.

We knew something was wrong with Obama 4 years ago. No one pay attention and the media was ready for so much hope, in something and never realize that, that something was one of the most dangerous times we faced.

Nothing comes close to war but now, we are fighting our own kind of war right here in this time. A war for freedom. It was fought after 9/11 we needed to do something after our nation was attacked.

Now,Obama has divided us into classes and now divided us in our faith. Who can do that, not even a president can do that but he is. Our guns will be restricted sooner or later, our military voice is restricted, the food we have eaten is off limits and more restrictions to come, the cars we drive will be restricted, the energy use is and will be more restricted, our health care will be forced on us, every aspect has been touched in our life by this president.

Obama over reach is palpable. Call your representatives, email them, listen closely to everything you can, this is a war of sorts on us all and Americans must win.

Get involved and get educated. If you have not done so already, become active in the political process, getting to know your member of Congress and taking part in the government affairs activities of your industry association, both at the state and national levels.

hutch1200 #38, you’re too kind to the republican establishment. they’re in on the deal. they’ve been cashing in on the same “borrow trillions, spend billions for stuff for contracts with us and our fellow elites’ companies, toss a few bones to the po’ folk to keep them voting for us” scam.

i probably mentioned it here on GWP but i got schooled by John Sununu a decade ago when i was a young idealistic libertarian (with a clue on foreign policy) punk. Sununu mocked me and told me that in the real world, i’d be consumed alive because everyone is on the take. everyone is for sale, and is buying and selling. if i didn’t think the sole purpose of government was to part fools from their money (usually with a gun, but it’s not quite polite to mention those things before a distinguished republican gentleman), then i was the one to have his money parted with.

Sununu has backed Romney, of course. He was quite special to both Bush administrations. the best thing he taught is how the Republican elites think. right now, it’s all about hunkering down to ride out the collapse, the implosion that must occur once everyone figures out the hundreds of trillions in unfunded liabilities Sununu and his Ivy League, pedigree elites borrowed and pledged the middle class to pay it all back.

These vile bastards sold your children into slavery and call you stupid for resisting.

It’s why I’m quite alarmed by Obama, as it’s the same exact things they showed me they lived through. They didn’t react, and they willingly disarmed. Their intellectuals gladly joined their Obama. Nobody believed it would go that far, after all, they were Germans, scientific, enlightened people. Advanced culturally.

Their media willingly lied. When Jews were assembled for trains, their media looked the other way. Deluded themselves. “There’s no way this could be what I think it could be. I must be wrong.”

America never had its French Revolution, and given its technological prowess, also never had its German reactionary movement. We’re way behind on our historical progression and worse, walking into all of this incredibly naive. Given 52% of our population is so worked up about getting free crap thanks to redistribution and theft from their neighbors, they’re unlikely to even look up from their “free” plasma TV when their neighbors get hauled off to an Obama camp.

When they come for just one, or send a drone, I seriously doubt the factor you describe will really matter much.

in trying to make the case for obama i think that part of the equation is skipped over. we can’t forget the undercover assault that was disguised as entertainment of all kinds from all venues. it was a full on 24/7 assault to capture the whitehouse and they were taking no prisoners. “Obama credits Selma march for his existence” obama tried to float that boat but since he was born 4 years before……..

All religious organisations that do not want to provide for abortions, etc. should only hire people who comply totally with the restrictions of the faith. Discrimination – possibly, but what’s saucce for the goose [government] is sauce for the gander [church].

  • chai

Problem is, Obama is an evil man. We must all fight this evil and get him out of office. God only knows what other traps he has planned for us. Evil, evil man….

  • Jenny

Why are we upset about THIS mandate of Obamacare and no the entire damn thing? This is just one minuscule part of a larger piece of crap and yes, if this little part is waived and the chuch wins that’s great but what about the entire damn thing that still mandates everything else? Why is it so great that Boehner all of a sudden steps up to fight to repeal this thing for the church and not the whole damn package. Fight to repeal it all.

  • Jenny

The belief that the entire thing will stay put and they will repeal or waive just this contraception part is not the right way to think about this. The full health care government mandate WILL be repealed in January 2013. Any other thought is allowing them to believe this law is acceptable and long term.

“All religious organisations that do not want to provide for abortions, etc. should only hire people who comply totally with the restrictions of the..” and i would think the current crop of employees signed on for employment with knowledge that these services weren’t in their employment package. i don’t think that it’s cast in stone that they HAVE to continue their employment and i’m sure they would receive a nice letter of recommendation as they seek a job elsewhere. more of the my way or the highway policy.

My spouse works for a local hospital. The CEO, a real corporatist clown, conducted a town hall sort of meeting with the emp, loyees by computer.

The CEO referenced this healthcare legilation. He said most businesses would simply refuse to enact the required changes and willingly pay the fine to the government.

So why the outrage? Becaue its ginned up by far right evangelical types who want Obama defeated. You are being used again.

But while Catholic leadership has blasted the new regulation, polls show that a majority of Catholics are actually more supportive of the provision than the rest of the country. A poll out Tuesday from the Public Religion Research Institute finds 52 percent of Catholic voters agreed with the statement, “employers should be required to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception and birth control at no cost.” That’s pretty much in line with overall support for the provision, which hovers at 55 percent – likely because Catholics use contraceptives at rates similar to the rest of Americans.

You are being schooled. The loudmouthed money grubbing preachers are purposefully mischaracterizing the debate. Thats nothing new. right wingers love their alternate reality.

  • seriously?
if they want to go to jail, then let them go to jail.
thing is, they are going to jail for refusal to help other people be people. people are human and need contraceptives. no one is going to keep children innocent forever or hold their hands the rest of their lives. they should be taught REAL life and how to live in a REAL world.
religion should be personal and a way of life for ONEself, not something that tries to force other people to avoid their human urges.
live your life, live with the freedom of chioce, and then live with consequences.
    why is that a wrong?

This poll out on WEDNESDAY: “The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 39% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the government should require a church or religious organization to provide contraceptives for women even if it violates their deeply held beliefs. Fifty percent (50%) disagree and oppose such a requirement that runs contrary to strong beliefs, while 10% more are undecided.”

The polling firm noted: “Fifty-six percent (56%) of male voters are against the government requiring contraceptive coverage in a case like this. Female voters are almost evenly divided on the question. Sixty-five percent (65%) of Catholic voters oppose this requirement, as do 62% of Evangelical Christians, and 50% of other Protestants. Most non-Christians (56%) support the Obama Administration ruling.”

Why are we upset about THIS mandate of Obamacare and no the entire damn thing?

To put it really simply, Romneycare. To elaborate a bit, the GOP establishment is chock full of statists. To elaborate a bit more, “our” GOP critters would have been more than happy to allow the camel’s nose under the tent had the ‘rats just eased up a tad.

Good for the Baptists! This is NOT a “war on Catholicism,” it is a war on Christianity itself – and the more conservative and Orthodox Jewish sects may find themselves under the wheels of secularism, too, before it is over.

Obama has made the cynical calculation that while Catholic clergy warn against supporting pro-abortion politicians, he won 52% of the Catholic vote in 2008. If he can keep it playing as Obama v Benedict, he believes he can hold onto enough of the lapsed and non-practicing Catholics, as well as the liberals, to make up for the effects of those who defect. He believes most of those against his policy were already against him in 2008.

But liberal, pro-abortion liberal Democratic pundit Mark Shields is horrified, and he is not along. No person of conscience can pretend the unprecedented intrusion into religious liberty will end with the Catholics – it only begins there.

#63-The real world? In the real world one should at least accept a smidgen of responsibility. People are human, they need contraceptives? Odd, I need beer, perhaps you should pay for that. I need a cell phone, perhaps you should pay for that.
This country was made great because ordinary people did ordinary and extraordinary things, not because some marched in the streets over real or conceived slights, not because government was there to hold their hand through each step of their lives. The “American experiment” is dangerously close to coming to an end, all because of the gimmee gimmee attitude of all to many. “I want this, and someone else better damn well be paying for it” How sad.

  • StrangernFiction

But while Catholic leadership has blasted the new regulation, polls show that a majority of Catholics are actually more supportive of the provision than the rest of the country.

Pay attention, people. Obama is not a bad President. He is also not a Muslim, a communist, a socialist, a trotskyite, a maoist, or an anti-Semite. Obama does not do any off the following:

    1)Apologize for America

    2)Hate America

    3)Hate his white half

    4)Love his black half more

5)Long to see Sharia law instituted in the US

In fact, He is Not dangerous at all. As I remember the chain letter, from right after Obama was elected, he was going to turn the USA into a Muslim country. I am guessing the chain letter has now been proven false. 3 years an no problems. Obama isn’t a Marxist. If he were, the federal government would have taken permanent whatever. Anyone who saids he is is a racist!

I’m not going to speculate as to if Obama is a purely evil man, because shows how sick the the head you are! It’s obvious you are a idiot! Christ knows who his followers are. It makes no difference what they call themselves: Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, and all the others. He knows who is a Christian and who calls himself a Christian but is not. He knows where His enemies hide. He also knows ALL of us fall short of the Glory.

You are no Christians. You are not even Patriots, but hateful disgusting racist liars. But you repeat these ridiculous lies anyway, because you can’t say the real reason you hate Obama: YOU ARE A POOR EXCUSE OF A HUMAN BEING AND A RACIST WHO CAN’T STAND A BLACK MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

  • myohmy

The argument that women have no access to contraception is deceitful. Women have access to contraception, she just have to pay for it. The only reason this has become an issue because the government wants more power.

“Obama is wonderful president! So just shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!”

And if you dare point out stuff like Fast & Furious, the tanking economy, his “splendid” little war in Libya, his failed stimulus programs, his enmity towards Israel, his war against Catholics, you’re just racist, that’s all! Racist! RAAAAACCCCIIIIISSST!”

“You’re also just sick in the head, ‘cuz if you weren’t, you’d love Obama!”

    /Sarc. off.

Somehow I get the impression Questionman doesn’t really want us asking any questions. And what’s with all the “You aren’t really Christian?” name calling? Though this particular thread concerns the Catholic Church, Gateway Pundit isn’t a specficially Christian blog. I suspect you’re really not Christian yourself, you’re just trying to guilt trip the posters here—whom you see as Christian fundamentalists, cuz all them rightwingers are just a bunch of religious fanatics, who hate Obama cuz they’re racist, blah, blah, blah—into thinking something like, “Chee, I yam bad Christian if I disagree with the great Obama!”, so they will then shut up, and stop saying bad things about the wonderful O. Sorry, not gonna work.)

One more thought for the day: The government promotes/recommends a woman breastfeed her baby for as long as possible. In doing so, she may lose a size or lets just say “perkiness.” In the case of breast cancer, many health care plans cover breast implant surgery after a mastectomy. If obama really wanted to court women (or men for that matter) for a vote and promote breast feeding/healthy choices, he would mandate that all employers and health insurances cover breast implant surgery after breast feeding.

WhyBother, ordinary fertility is not a disease, and pregnancy is not an illness. You don’t “need” contraception in the same way you might need insulin, say, or some other life preserving drug.

And if people need contraception, why can’t they pay for it themselves (it’s not expensive). Why are the rest of us expected to buy it for them—even when some of us disapprove of it, and believe supporting it is against their religion? Are we supposed to worship the state now? (I guess so.)

These aren’t religious organizations anymore than the ACLU is for civili liberties. The ACLU said their ultimate goal was communism. That is what these organizations are. They’re all lying.
That’s what communists do. Does anyone still believe Zero is telling the truth about his birthplace or Christina faith?

Well, until he supported and delivered the creation of a new Black Nation, liberating millions of Africans from slavery and war, like President George Bush did, Obama’s not done anything much in comparison for Blacks. He eats well, has million-dollar parties, holidays and all his friends are far far far richer today than they were three years ago, while everyone else is poorer. You noticed that?

The new nation of South Sudan set aside a national holiday for George W. Bush. Can you answer this question: WHY would they do something like that for a man who snarky people here sneer about as some “cracker?”

By your racist standards, they shouldn’t be even talking to Bush, much less singing his praises and closing down the nation for a day of celebration. The South Sudanese have brains and memories – they KNOW who came to their side when they were being killed and who DIDN’T.

The Texas “frat boy” did more to save MILLIONS of Africans than anyone else in the world. He’s NEVER spoken of it, never bragged he got a national holiday, and the media HID it from the American People.
No, instead, Bush mocked and slimed, while people who’ve done nothing for anyone, except themselves, get fawned over.
Why? Bush came to the aid of African Christians, persecuted in their own nation by Muslims. The celebrities ignored them. 20 years is a long time to turn one’s back.

Beyonce was singing for Arab Berber Ghaddafi, but never for the Black South Sudanese. Obama’s contribution to Kenya is Islamic sharia law in their new Constitution so Africans can get their hands chopped off for stealing a loaf of bread, a right now cemented in their Constitution. Was that really an improvement in a majority Christian nation? WHy were churches bombed that protested that?

Can we start doing what Martin Luther King asked, judging by the CHARACTER of a man rather than his color?

Or has the Black Liberation radicalism so poisoned King’s legacy and sacrifice that he’s only an “Uncle Tom,” not worthy of being listened to? A “loser?” According to King’s religion, as a Christian martyred, then he has eternal life with God, and those who abused him unrepentent have gone to hell. Strange definition of “loser.”

Can’t the churches just stop providing healthcare to employees altogether? If so, it seems to me that would be a more effective way to protest this Fascist rule.

I guess so are social security, minimum wage laws, labor laws, safety laws, tax deductions and a lot of other things churches get or are subject to. Until now no one is making churches or anyone else pay for health insurance which is the real issue not what a church “wants” or believes.” What does the Church say about health insurance or health care costing so much that 20% of people can’t afford it?

  • sylvie

FORCING the American people to participate in FEDERALLY MANDATED HEALTHCARE, is not only illegal, but is seditious. Those that go about creating and enforcing this unconstitutional mandate are committing a crime against the people of the United States, and yes, its punishable by IMPRISONMENT. Let them put that in their pipe and smoke on it a bit. So, they will have to destroy the Constitution of the United States. And of course they have been busy at doing just that, by fear mongering and telling the people they must choose safety or freedom… wow, our founding fathers were rather smart weren’t they? They saw this coming even then!

  • John Q

I hope more speak up, but this is more than a religious issue to me. The Feds shouldn’t be able to mandate any of this, to force anybody to buy a product or service from a “for profit” corporation; it’s obscene and tyranny. Not to mention this particular issue deals with elective choices, not medical need in by far most cases. Nothing is “free” and all this does is force other insurance policy holders to pay higher premiums to subsidize all these so-called “free” contraceptive products to women that use them. Somebody has to pay the piper, and it’s you, wake up!

  • ChickenMan
