“I Look to You” – Whitney Houston’s Lasting Gift

The funeral for Whitney Houston was today.

In August 2009 after a long absence from the studio Whitney Houston released her seventh and final album “I Look to You.” It debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 at number one with sales of 305,000, beating her previous career best first-week sale of 205,000 units with Just Whitney (2002). Whitney told the press in London that her latest album will reflect her emotional state and chronicle events in her personal life since her last musical release in 2002. Whitney said,

“That makes it real. The changes that we go through, the transitions that we go through, the tests that we go through, being a mother, becoming a single mother. It all had its ups and its downs, but for the most part, I kept my faith and I kept my head up… I took my time. All the triumphs and the ups and downs and stuff, it’s all incorporated on the album, and hopefully not only does it inspire me, but inspires a whole lot of other people.”

Whitney ‘s career started in the church. And after all of those years of pain and addiction she never quit searching for Him.

“I Look to You” may not be Whitney Houston’s best seller. But anyone who has battled addiction or divorce or loss can find comfort in this beautiful hymn of praise.

I Look To You

As I lay me down
Heaven hear me now
I’m lost without a cause
After giving it my all

Winter storms have come
And darkened my sun
After all that I’ve been through
Who on earth can I turn to?

Chorus:
I look to you,
I look to you
After all my strength is gone
In you I can be strong
aI look to you,
I look to you
And when melodies are gone In you I hear a song
I look to you

’bout to lose my breath
There’s no more fighting left
Sinking to rise no more
Searching for that open door

And every road that I’ve taken
Led to my regret
And I don’t know if I’m go’n make it
Nothing to do but lift my head

Chorus:

My levees are broken
My walls are coming down on me
My rain is falling
Defeat is calling
I need you to set me free
Take me far away from the battle
I need you
Shine on me!
