Donald Trump: “There’s No Gift That Could Be Given Better Than Rick Santorum to Democrats”

Last month Donald Trump endorsed Mitt Romney in Las Vegas.

Today Trump slammed Rick Santorum in a Michigan radio interview.
FOX 8 Cleveland reported:

Donald Trump demonstrated Monday that he has no qualms about going after one of Mitt Romney’s chief rivals, Rick Santorum.

“There’s nothing — there’s no gift, no Christmas gift, that could be given better than Rick Santorum to the Democrats,” Trump said in a radio interview which aired in Michigan. Democrats, he continued, “are just salivating at that. And, you know, I don’t think they believe it’s going to happen. But boy, would they like it to happen because that would be an easy election.”

Michigan votes one week from Tuesday, and Trump is scheduled to take to the state’s airwaves daily this week to speak on Romney’s behalf.

The perception of electability was a major factor in deciding to endorse Romney, Trump said, and Republicans would be foolish to put forward Santorum as their nominee because “he basically has no chance” of winning.

“Otherwise, what’s the whole purpose, what’s the purpose of working, working, working, going out voting, doing your thing if the person has no chance of getting elected,” Trump said on WSGW Radio of Saginaw, Michigan.

Trump considered a presidential bid himself, then nixed the idea, and in January tossed his endorsement to Mitt Romney.

    Romney’s Moronic Indulgence of Trump

    Phil Klein calls Mitt Romney’s joint appearance with Donald Trump to accept the latter’s endorsement “the biggest blunder of his candidacy.” I’m not sure I’d go that far, but it’s certainly up there. Consider that last time the effect of a Trump endorsement was polled, by Fox News in Spetember, it came out as a net negative: 31% would be less likely to vote for a Trump endorsee, only 6% more likely.

    Those who are working to re-elect Barack Obama are thrilled by the development, touting it on the @BarackObama Twitter account and in a blast email from the Democratic National Committee. Romney will most likely be the Republican nominee, and if Trump says something particularly incendiary, one can certainly imagine an attack ad using the footage of Trump and Romney. But even if this blows over and doesn’t seriously hurt Romney, it’s hard to see how it can possibly help.

    Sure we can give Obama a better gift. Romney.

  • Right Wing Conservative

    Trump would have been the worst candidate yet. Thanks bud for dropping out of the race.

  • regularguy

    Thank you for that, Mr. Trump. Now STHU, please. This may not be the greatest presidential field ever, but I don’t need Mr. Trump to tell me for whom to vote, or that one candidate is a total loser over another. Really, Obama is a very weak candidate, truth be known, and Santorum, for better or worse, continues to defy the odds.

  • Diamond Girl

    Hey Trump…STHU!

    “Romney will most likely be the Republican nominee”

    REALLY, BECAUSE THIS ARTICLE SAYS SO.

    This is hurt Romney in the Short term but with a big mouth like Trump, he will eventually say something again that is stupid. You can count on Trump.

  • Patty

    For all we know, Trump endorsement is the reason Santorum is surging ahead.

    When asked by Greta why he endorse Mitt. China, that was his answer, he thinks the other candidates aren’t concern about China.

    We all are very very aware of China’s growth and maybe they will be the next superpower but Romney isn’t Superman, he acts like he is, though.

    No matter the endorsements from Christie, Haley and Coulter, Americans are more than capable of making up their mind. Romney can repeat over and over what a Conservative he is but just because he says it, doesn’t make it true.

  • Trump ego matches that of zero. He truly believes he’s the smartest guy in the room.

  • NeoKong

    Alternate headlines.

    “Romney accepts endorsement from disgraced birther.”

    “Romney aligns himself with the birther movement.”

    “Donald Trump endorse Romneycare.”

  • Patty

    And with all the democrats watching the Republicans and laughing, I would suggest they get their house in order because there is just so many times you can blame Congress, when the whole thing will fall like a house of cards.

    They main job these days is repeating their marching orders and lies about the jobless numbers and tell the viewers what hateful people the right are. I do believe that if they keep this up, it will blow up in their face come November.

    And I suggest you don’t believe some of the misleading polls.

  • Redwine

    This means that Santorum can win.

    Trump voted for Comrade Barry Hussein, contributed to Schumer and Reid. He’s no conservative by any stretch of the imagination – and neither is Romney.

  • Carbon Pootprint

    Well I hope people remember that New York is full of liars and thieves that screwed over the entire country and won’t let any of them “fear monger” us out of electing someone who might hold the guilty accountable.

  • Joanne

    I just hope someone like Allen West comes into the game and saves the day.

    If people haven’t noticed, the world is going to hell in a hand basket, because the U.S. no longer has a President that makes it his priority to be the world’s watchdog against evil; instead Obama has aligned himself with everything and everyone evil. Shame. Shame.

  • dunce

    He really must believe obama is electable because uh, uh. Why is is that again ? Well anyway it was important to take a shot at a leading republican.

  • valerie

    …except Romney.

  • Conservative to the Core

    If Santorum or Gingrich were to come away with the nomination the Establishment Republicans would provide zero support. They would basically take their ball and go home.

    And good riddance!

  • AnnaS

    Santorum cannot win, period. Check his record on economic issues before voting (and I think “its the economy stupid” this time around). It is horrible. Plus he can never get to talking about the economy when he is on prime time because everyone wants to talk about his social stand which is going to kill him with the average voter out there (did you see the Sunday shows?). We need to be realistic or at least pragmatic.

  • As he (Trump) desperately tries to convince himself – Romney’s the man. Less and less, do I appreciate his interviews; he’s given his endorsement, now he needs to shut up.

  • Ex-Californian

    Go Donald !!! Help the repubic establishment, RINOS, and their current herdsman Romney run itself over their self-constructed precipice.

    There’s No Gift That Could Be Given Better Than Rick Santorum to the Presidency of the United States of America. There, fixed it!

  • Wayne

    I just don’t get it. This isn’t the United States of America that I grew up in. A devote Catholic conservative is “unelectable” in the USA but a muslim, anti-Constitution, Alinsky radical Marxist that what to transform this country is the President. It is truly Bizarro World. Someone please woke me up and tell me it is just a dream.

  • Rock

    So the Republican leadership think, conservatives must settle for Obambi or Obambi light, big deal, neither is the real thing. Four more years of either will forever change America for the worst. God@%$ politicians should all be run out of town on a rail, and put some real Americans in their place.

    “Otherwise, what’s the whole purpose, what’s the purpose of working, working, working, going out voting, doing your thing if the person has no chance of getting elected,” Trump said on WSGW Radio of Saginaw, Michigan.

    I’ll answer that question with a question of my own for Trump:

    What’s the whole purpose, what’s the purpose of working, working, working, going out voting, doing your thing if, in November, we can’t tell the candidates apart without looking to see which letter – R or D – follows his name?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    That Santorum would be the best gift to Demonrats is debatable. That a President Romney would make a swell consolation prize – something to help ease the “agony of defeat” as well as ensuring they don’t walk away having won nothing at all – for Demonrats should Barky be defeated in November is not. They’d not get Obama for another four years but they would get Obama-Lite. From a libtard’s perspective, a closet socialist with the R after his name is a helluva lot better than a conservative with any letter following his.
  • MyOwnEyes
    Santorum cannot win, period. Check his record on economic issues before voting
    I agree, always check the record:
    considering the state he was representing, one could certainly make the case that Santorum was the most fiscally conservative senator during his tenure.
  • AuntieMadder
    FYI Trump’s a squishy moderate. He’s more afraid of conservatives than he is of liberals. But, if it’s on the menu, he’ll go with the delicious, chewy centered moderate every time
    Like all of us, he fears the unknown at least a little bit, so, of course, he shrunk toward the right, away from the unknown senator from Illinois. He probably would have voted for McCain had Palin’s unabashed conservativism not struck him with such terror that he wet his pants and lost what was left of his hair then, all within an hour of her selection having been officially announced. 😮 (Yeah, he’s that scared of true conservatives, poor ol’ skittish animal.) Now he’d like to trade unpredictable libtard from Kenya for a squishy American moderate.
Just someone who has a mind for strong energy policy..and letting people make a living..so I am watching–I just know its not the one in office now a racist who hates whites, energy and science..says what he thinks we want to hear then he gets into office and does the opposite…we need someone who loves America and all people media is so racist like NPR with the clack talk show making jokes about killing whitey that is insulting.We shouldnt be selling our oil BACK to other countries we should keep it and use it at a lower cost..we are being ripped off being used to push his agenda..we are all suffering with these trumped up prices..
    Myth Rmoney IS the Lex Luthor Obama has been counting on to win. Obama has built his whole re-election on class warfare against the 1% wall street hedge fund manager shipping jobs overseas….and the play to lose Republican establishment is happy to hand Obama his re-election on a silver platter by going along with this Hollywood script. Take the Wall Street villian out, and Obama has ZERO. Obama has not planned on losing a big chunk of the communist Catholic vote to santorum.
    I am not usually so negative, but I am beginning to have a palpable pain in my heart over what we are doing here. I just don’t know if the essence of America will survive another four years of an unconstrained Obama. Trump is a buffoon but in this case he is accurate in his comment. If Santorum is the nominee, he will be the gift to Obama that will keep on giving with every stupid remark that comes out of his pious, condescending, and moralizing pie hole.
    We can’t take a chance on SCOTUS baling us out on ObamaCare. Romney has to be the nominee.
  • wanumba
    Stunning that Romney ran around trying to get TRUMP’s endorsement. Of ALL people?
    I never like to agree with Trump, but he’s right in this case. There are many things to admire about Santorum but he has such a record of extreme statements, has demonstrated a willingness to involve the government in personal matters (Terry Sciavo, anyone?) and is so dogmatic in his Catholicism, that it is easy (rightly or wrongly) to will be easy for the Obama team to make him out to be a whack-job fanatic. Sorry, but if he is the nominee, the race will be over before it starts.
    Only as long as Santorum keeps giving attention to social issues, which have ZERO value at this point in time.
    Priority one is to get this country back to work and back on the path of prosperity. Everything else takes a back seat to that goal.
  • Bonanza driver
    I didn’t know the Presidency was a jobs training program…First, the nation elected Obama. Now, Republicans want to install Santorum, another career politician with no executive experience whatsoever…Why on earth are we now picking persons for the dual role of Commander in Chief and CEO of the United States who have no military experience and no executive experience??? It boggles the mind…While I’m at it. Santorum was kicked out of the Senate in 2006. How has he been feeding his family since then??? Is he another Gingrich, who hangs around Washington selling himself to the highest bidder? I don’t know. Just asking…
