Just yesterday Dana Perino was pointing out how the media blamed Bush for gas prices and now that gas prices are rising again the same media is giving Obama a pass.

She wasn’t just spouting off. It’s true…
The corrupt media hyped rising gas prices four times more for Bush than Obama.
The Business and Media Institute reported:

Rising gas prices used to be big news, but not so these days. Although the national average climbed to $3.56 on Feb. 20, setting a February record after going up nearly a month straight, there was far less coverage than in 2008. Broadcast networks repeatedly covered the rise under the Bush presidency. Gas prices bounced around eventually reaching $3.56-a-gallon on April 24, 2008.

The Business and Media Institute analyzed broadcast network news references to gas or fuel prices between Jan. 20 and Feb. 20, 2012 and from March 24 and April 24, 2008. BMI found that in the 2008 period there were more than 4 times as many gas prices stories, news briefs or news headlines on ABC, CBS and NBC as there were in 2012 (97 to 21).

Coverage during the time periods differed not only in quantity, but in tone as well. During Bush’s tenure, gas prices were a huge economic threat and cause of suffering. The networks also used the high gas prices to attack the administration. In 2012, the networks aired mostly matter-of-fact stories on the rising gas prices, and worried primarily that they would hinder the economic recovery, not that they are making people suffer.

Dismal broadcast network reports about “skyrocketing” gas prices filled the newscasts in 2008. There were reports about businesses closing, airlines struggling and truckers protesting — all because of the high prices. One ABC report said families were facing the “tough choice” between food or fuel. Others said that “wallets were running on empty” and consumers were told over and over that there was no relief in sight. But by the end of November 2008, prices had collapsed to $1.82.

  2. Of course not; it’s still Bush’s fault.

    /sarcasm.

  3. The media did the same with unemployment and Bush — every single uptick, even when we had unemployment under 5%, was trumpeted with alarm. With President Zero? eh, not so much…..

  4. Rising gas prices are the result of decades of radical environmentalism. We knew back in the 1970′s that this day was coming. Since then, the Democrat party and its allies in the radical environmental movement have done eveything possible to obstruct American energy independence. The Republican candidates need to point this out loud and clear.

Headline: Florida Drivers Shelling Out Nearly $6 A Gallon At Some Gas Stations

TAMPA (CBS Tampa) — Talk about pain at the pump! Some Florida drivers are spending nearly $6 a gallon to fill up their gas tanks.

According to GasBuddy.com, motorists are shelling out $5.89 for a gallon of regular gas at a Shell station in Lake Buena Vista, topping out at $5.99 a gallon for premium. It doesn’t get better at a Suncoast Energy station in Orlando, where drivers are paying $5.79 for a gallon of regular.

  6. Alinsky Media double standard on gas prices? Why I’m shocked…

From the USA Today, April 4th, 2006.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Consumer gasoline prices continue to soar as the Bush administration places too much emphasis on drilling reserves and not enough on alternative fuels, Democrats said Saturday.

In his party’s weekly radio address, Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida noted that Brazil has announced it will achieve energy independence this year, something the United States has sought since the country’s first oil crisis in the 1970s.

“In Brazil, drivers are filling up their cars with ethanol instead of gasoline,” Nelson said. “And today in America, President Bush says, ‘We have a serious problem. America is addicted to oil.’”

Nelson said Bush acknowledges the problem but refuses to enact policies to address the issue.

“The administration’s emphasis is on drilling, a strategy many experts say won’t make a dent in the U.S. oil problem,” he said.

    (wait for it…)

An oil crisis is looming, Nelson said, with gasoline prices reaching more than $4 a gallon in some parts of the country.

Greater demand and less supply means the slightest disruption “could wreak economic havoc,” he said.

From ABC Affiliate KGO, Channel 7, San Francisco, July 7th, 2008.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wrapped up her San Francisco holiday weekend Monday with a blast at President Bush. The topic — the price of oil. Gasoline has more than doubled since the Bush administration took office she says.

San Francisco’s Meals on Wheels turns out more than 1,300 meals a day to seniors. But now there has been a dramatic rise in expenses.

“Our costs have gone up 40 percent, but even more so, the indirect costs of driving food costs is really taking a big hit on us. Almost a nine percent increase in food costs in just one year,” says Ashley McCumber of Meals on Wheels.

McCumber joined Speaker Pelosi Monday to dramatize the tough times businesses are having because of fuel costs. The speaker blames what she labels the Bush-Cheney big oil agenda, using graphics to point out gasoline prices have more than doubled in the Bush administration.

“This is a scam of the greatest magnitude,” says Speaker Pelosi.

  7. Another thing that is not being mentioned is that back then when opening offshore for drilling was mentioned to increase domestic production the argument was that it would take five years to get that into production. Well it is now five years later. Where would we be if the proposal to drill had been taken? Heard the same excuse on NPR last night about the Keystone, well that’s not going to help because it would take years. Well… then let’s get started.

These petrophobes want gas at $7.00 a gallon. Does anybody recall John Kerry saying that during the Bush administration? He did. Some even suggested $10 a gallon. This is the only way this ‘green’ energy scheme can look reasonable in the energy market. It is no accident and they don’t give a damn about your financial stresses because they think they know better as to your own welfare than you do. They are just that deluded from their own misguided arrogance.

  8. A majority of the main stream media is liberal therefore pro-Democrat because they want anything goes reporting no limitation. Repubs/Conservatives have common decency and a line in the sand for what is right and wrong. For that reason, we have this butt kissing pro-Obama/Democrat media. Conservatives would see a show of the likes of Jerry Springer and/or Jersey Shore and say to themselves this is trash, get off the air. Libs see it as entertainment. Dems reach out to the lowest levels of our society.

    OT..

there but for the Grace of God go we..

  10. The same media may be giving Obama a pass but will the American Public?

Come one come all they told us — move to the suburbs for a better life as they built massive freeways for that drive to work. Now our housing prices have gone up in smoke as we stuggle to pay $5.00 a gallon for gas. Nahhhhhh its not Obama’s fault well than who in the h’lls fault is it?

  11. Obama’s Press prevaricator has already announced that these gas prices are not Obama’s fault since the president has done everything he can to increase energy supplies.

It’s on Drudge so it must be true.

  12. people…please… we ALL should know by know the media hates republicans and a free america…so lets stop with the BS…what can we all do from now until November is the better question…you all want to spew venom and rant and rave about odumbo…or are WE going to do something about it…. get active..start with facts…volunteer…anything to send this mooslime POS packing is what we are after

  13. The world’s first oil well was drilled in Pennsylvania. Many people there still work in the oil industry. This country needs oil, jobs, and the taxes on oil, but Obama has a personal war on oil. Get rid of Obama and places such as California can reap the money that follows the oil industry; however, I am not very optimistic about the retards of California.

  14. I guess this ‘somehow didn’t get noticed’ when it happened and nobody’s talking about it now.

Posted on my shooters forum Saturday evening – and I sent it out to a whole bunch of people in media and blog circles……

If a major refinery on the left coast had a fire Friday and nobody reported the news until tonight……… How fast and high will prices go up on Tuesday morning ?

8.7% of gasoline production for the western 1/4 of America was shut down.

    Nudge.

  15. “somehow ,we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe”….Steven Chu,odummer’s energy secretary…..guess they figure it out.

  16. Rush Limbaugh – How the Media Treats Obama Vs How They Treated Bush

    This is in 2010

Look through the net, 2009, 10, 11 and in 2012 all bias reporting and with this administration you may never know the truth unless you do watch Fox.

But Conservative Radio host and many others out there are getting the word out. Problem is will Americans who are busy hear or read the bias and believe it.

  17. Rising gas prices used to be big news, but not so these days. Others said that “wallets were running on empty” and consumers were told over and over that there was no relief in sight. But by the end of November 2008, prices had collapsed to $1.82.

The networks weren’t simply reporting the painfully high gas prices in early 2008 though, in many cases they were exaggerating them. NBC’s “Today” focused on Redwood City, Calif. on March 6 where regular gasoline cost $3.99, according to the photograph NBC aired. The national average for gas that day was $3.19 a gallon. Ann Curry also failed to tell viewers that California has the highest state gasoline tax in the nation, a whopping 45.5 cents a gallon at that time.

On gasoline specifically, reporters have routinely showed photos of extreme pump prices despite lower national averages. The Business and Media Institute documented this trend in 2007, 2006 and 2005.

But now, in 2012, gas prices stories are very different. “[W]e’re seeing gas prices creep up every single week,” said one ABC reporter after delivering a positive economic report about the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing in on 13,000 for the first time since 2008. One CBS story just pointed out that if certain steps are taking against Iran, gas prices everywhere could move sharply higher.

Although the time periods BMI analyzed were the same length and ended with the same national average price for gasoline, due to price fluctuations they were not identical. In 2008, prices rose from $3.26 to $3.56 in the month we examined. In 2012, prices were already higher ($3.38 on Jan. 20).
