Corrupt Media Hyped Rising Gas Prices 4 Times More for Bush, Than Obama

Just yesterday Dana Perino was pointing out how the media blamed Bush for gas prices and now that gas prices are rising again the same media is giving Obama a pass.

She wasn’t just spouting off. It’s true…
The corrupt media hyped rising gas prices four times more for Bush than Obama.
The Business and Media Institute reported:

Rising gas prices used to be big news, but not so these days. Although the national average climbed to $3.56 on Feb. 20, setting a February record after going up nearly a month straight, there was far less coverage than in 2008. Broadcast networks repeatedly covered the rise under the Bush presidency. Gas prices bounced around eventually reaching $3.56-a-gallon on April 24, 2008.

The Business and Media Institute analyzed broadcast network news references to gas or fuel prices between Jan. 20 and Feb. 20, 2012 and from March 24 and April 24, 2008. BMI found that in the 2008 period there were more than 4 times as many gas prices stories, news briefs or news headlines on ABC, CBS and NBC as there were in 2012 (97 to 21).

Coverage during the time periods differed not only in quantity, but in tone as well. During Bush’s tenure, gas prices were a huge economic threat and cause of suffering. The networks also used the high gas prices to attack the administration. In 2012, the networks aired mostly matter-of-fact stories on the rising gas prices, and worried primarily that they would hinder the economic recovery, not that they are making people suffer.

Dismal broadcast network reports about “skyrocketing” gas prices filled the newscasts in 2008. There were reports about businesses closing, airlines struggling and truckers protesting — all because of the high prices. One ABC report said families were facing the “tough choice” between food or fuel. Others said that “wallets were running on empty” and consumers were told over and over that there was no relief in sight. But by the end of November 2008, prices had collapsed to $1.82.

The media did the same with unemployment and Bush — every single uptick, even when we had unemployment under 5%, was trumpeted with alarm. With President Zero? eh, not so much…..

Rising gas prices are the result of decades of radical environmentalism. We knew back in the 1970’s that this day was coming. Since then, the Democrat party and its allies in the radical environmental movement have done eveything possible to obstruct American energy independence. The Republican candidates need to point this out loud and clear.

Headline: Florida Drivers Shelling Out Nearly $6 A Gallon At Some Gas Stations

TAMPA (CBS Tampa) — Talk about pain at the pump! Some Florida drivers are spending nearly $6 a gallon to fill up their gas tanks.

According to GasBuddy.com, motorists are shelling out $5.89 for a gallon of regular gas at a Shell station in Lake Buena Vista, topping out at $5.99 a gallon for premium. It doesn’t get better at a Suncoast Energy station in Orlando, where drivers are paying $5.79 for a gallon of regular.

Alinsky Media double standard on gas prices? Why I’m shocked…

From the USA Today, April 4th, 2006.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Consumer gasoline prices continue to soar as the Bush administration places too much emphasis on drilling reserves and not enough on alternative fuels, Democrats said Saturday.

In his party’s weekly radio address, Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida noted that Brazil has announced it will achieve energy independence this year, something the United States has sought since the country’s first oil crisis in the 1970s.

“In Brazil, drivers are filling up their cars with ethanol instead of gasoline,” Nelson said. “And today in America, President Bush says, ‘We have a serious problem. America is addicted to oil.'”

Nelson said Bush acknowledges the problem but refuses to enact policies to address the issue.

“The administration’s emphasis is on drilling, a strategy many experts say won’t make a dent in the U.S. oil problem,” he said.

    (wait for it…)

An oil crisis is looming, Nelson said, with gasoline prices reaching more than $4 a gallon in some parts of the country.

Greater demand and less supply means the slightest disruption “could wreak economic havoc,” he said.

From ABC Affiliate KGO, Channel 7, San Francisco, July 7th, 2008.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wrapped up her San Francisco holiday weekend Monday with a blast at President Bush. The topic — the price of oil. Gasoline has more than doubled since the Bush administration took office she says.

San Francisco’s Meals on Wheels turns out more than 1,300 meals a day to seniors. But now there has been a dramatic rise in expenses.

“Our costs have gone up 40 percent, but even more so, the indirect costs of driving food costs is really taking a big hit on us. Almost a nine percent increase in food costs in just one year,” says Ashley McCumber of Meals on Wheels.

McCumber joined Speaker Pelosi Monday to dramatize the tough times businesses are having because of fuel costs. The speaker blames what she labels the Bush-Cheney big oil agenda, using graphics to point out gasoline prices have more than doubled in the Bush administration.

“This is a scam of the greatest magnitude,” says Speaker Pelosi.

  • Another thing that is not being mentioned is that back then when opening offshore for drilling was mentioned to increase domestic production the argument was that it would take five years to get that into production. Well it is now five years later. Where would we be if the proposal to drill had been taken? Heard the same excuse on NPR last night about the Keystone, well that’s not going to help because it would take years. Well… then let’s get started.

These petrophobes want gas at $7.00 a gallon. Does anybody recall John Kerry saying that during the Bush administration? He did. Some even suggested $10 a gallon. This is the only way this ‘green’ energy scheme can look reasonable in the energy market. It is no accident and they don’t give a damn about your financial stresses because they think they know better as to your own welfare than you do. They are just that deluded from their own misguided arrogance.

Repubs/Conservatives have common decency and a line in the sand for what is right and wrong. For that reason, we have this butt kissing pro-Obama/Democrat media. Conservatives would see a show of the likes of Jerry Springer and/or Jersey Shore and say to themselves this is trash, get off the air. Libs see it as entertainment. Dems reach out to the lowest levels of our society.

The world’s first oil well was drilled in Pennsylvania. Many people there still work in the oil industry. This country needs oil, jobs, and the taxes on oil, but Obama has a personal war on oil. Get rid of Obama and places such as California can reap the money that follows the oil industry; however, I am not very optimistic about the retards of California.

Others said that “wallets were running on empty” and consumers were told over and over that there was no relief in sight. But by the end of November 2008, prices had collapsed to $1.82.

The networks weren’t simply reporting the painfully high gas prices in early 2008 though, in many cases they were exaggerating them. NBC’s “Today” focused on Redwood City, Calif. on March 6 where regular gasoline cost $3.99, according to the photograph NBC aired. The national average for gas that day was $3.19 a gallon. Ann Curry also failed to tell viewers that California has the highest state gasoline tax in the nation, a whopping 45.5 cents a gallon at that time.

On gasoline specifically, reporters have routinely showed photos of extreme pump prices despite lower national averages. The Business and Media Institute documented this trend in 2007, 2006 and 2005.

But now, in 2012, gas prices stories are very different. “[W]e’re seeing gas prices creep up every single week,” said one ABC reporter after delivering a positive economic report about the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing in on 13,000 for the first time since 2008. One CBS story just pointed out that if certain steps are taking against Iran, gas prices everywhere could move sharply higher.

Although the time periods BMI analyzed were the same length and ended with the same national average price for gasoline, due to price fluctuations they were not identical. In 2008, prices rose from $3.26 to $3.56 in the month we examined. In 2012, prices were already higher ($3.38 on Jan. 20).

  • Patty

    http://news.investors.com/article/601510/201202161851/obama-likes-high-gasoline-prices-.htm

Obama likes high gasoline prices, but he won’t admit it.

Energy Policy: If gasoline prices so far are any indication, the pain at the pump will be severe this year. But if you think President Obama cares, you’re wrong. If anything, he’s secretly cheering it on.

Already, average pump prices have topped $3.50 a gallon, leading some experts to think they could reach an all-time high of $5 by the summer.

So what’s Obama’s response? He treats it like a badge of honor, saying this week that “gas prices are on the rise again because as the economy strengthens, global demand for oil increases.”

But what else can he say?

During his presidential campaign, Obama admitted he didn’t have a problem with sky-high gasoline prices, he just “would have preferred a gradual adjustment.”

His choice for energy secretary, Steven Chu, certainly doesn’t mind them. Before joining the administration he said that “somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

And last year, Chu claimed “the price of gasoline over the long haul should be expected to go up.”

At the same time, Obama has repeatedly feigned an inability to do anything about oil prices. Last April, he said: “I’m just going to be honest with you. There’s not much we can do next week or two weeks from now.”
mp3Subscribe to the IBD Editorials Podcast

    But this simply isn’t true.

The country is virtually awash in oil, with as much as 1.4 trillion “recoverable” barrels now available, thanks to new discoveries and advanced drilling technologies, according to the Institute for Energy Research.

That’s about twice the proved reserves in all of OPEC. But much of it is off-limits due to federal restrictions.

If Obama were to announce an aggressive effort to tap our vast domestic oil riches, it would have an immediate effect on prices. If you don’t think so, consider how prices immediately dropped when President Bush simply announced plans to lift a presidential moratorium on offshore drilling in 2008.

Obama says the recent modest increase in domestic production is proof he’s not anti-oil. But this happened despite his policies, not because of them — largely the result of drilling permits issued under Clinton and Bush, and the oil boom on private lands in North Dakota.

Whenever Obama has had the chance to encourage production, he’s done the opposite:

    • He needlessly halted Gulf drilling permits after the BP oil spill, and continues to slow-walk them. Permit approvals are less than half their pre-Obama average, and approval times have nearly doubled.

    • Obama scuttled the 700,000-barrels-a-day Keystone XL pipeline, despite approval by the State Department after an exhaustive three-year review.

    • And he endlessly demonizes oil companies while pushing to sharply raise their taxes.

The truth is that for Obama, low gas prices are the problem, since they would hamper progress toward his “green” Nirvana, where we all hop on government trains and putter around in government-approved electric cars. It’s just that he’s smart enough not to say this out loud.

Fuel Efficiency Proposal Will Price out Millions of Buyers

The Obama administration has been creating higher fuel standards for domestic car manufacturers that will extend well into the next decade, in hopes of reducing aggregate emissions. Thus far, the auto manufacturers have been supportive of the proposed regulations, but more stringent standards reaching as far as 2025 have caused a backlash among car companies, says Fox News.

The government has already mandated an average fuel economy of 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016.
The latest proposal would raise this requirement to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
The Obama administration, in support of the new proposal, has stated that the average consumer by purchasing a more fuel-efficient vehicle would save between $5,200 and $6,600 on gas over the life of the vehicle.

However, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) has responded that the administration’s projections as to the impact of its new policies underestimate its impacts on buyers. They argue that the new policies will create a substantial burden on car companies in terms of compliance costs, and will in turn raise the prices faced by consumers.

While the Obama administration has pegged the additional cost faced by the average consumer at $3,000, the NADA has stated that this estimate ignores certain fixed costs, and that the real figure is closer to $5,000.
Nevertheless, using the conservative $3,000 estimate, the NADA has projected that by 2025, 6.8 million car buyers will be priced out of the market, unable to get a loan to make the purchase.
Furthermore, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers has stated that compliance costs for the first phase of regulations will total $52 billion, while the second phase will cost between $133 billion and $157 billion.

The ultimate question, then, seems to be what the aggregate benefits of the policy will be. While the Obama administration emphasizes the lower fuel costs that consumers will realize by more efficient fleets of vehicles, the question remains whether or not consumers will be able to afford the new makes. Auto dealers’ estimates suggest that many will not.

Any time you see a deep drop in the price of gas it’s because the left is slamming the brakes on America going over the cliff, and the oil companies who are run by the Socialists in government, complied and dropped prices down from $4.40 a gallon to $1.40 a gallon in less than a month. The rise took place right after the so-called “October Surprise” unloaded by the Alinsky/Socialist/Communists to cause such a turmoil in our economy that they thought the American people would come crawling to the government to put a stop to the slid down hill. But the American people didn’t. They did everything they could to reduce the severity to their own economic condition, and didn’t even think about turning to government for help.

I watched what was happening to our economy very closely during that time and saw something that revealed something about or economy that is still true today with gas prices like they are. I understand why it seems like gas is stuck at $3.50 a gallon. In ’08 when the sudden rise took place and gas got to $3.50 a gallon consumers started a significant slowing in the purchase of gas. The impact on small business was even more significant. The small delivery or trucking businesses had to start taking trucks off the road because they could no longer keep all of them running. That meant that either the remaining trucks had to double up on their deliveries, or that business had to take the loss in revenue. It’ was in some cases the latter because they just couldn’t keep up with demand for products when they couldn’t afford to deliver them, they were lossing on just taking the stuff to the customer, no profits.

Once the price rose to $3.75 and a bit higher nearing the $4.00 mark, those same small businesses had to shut their doors because they just couldn’t afford to keep any of their trucks on the road at that point, what was the use, what were they supposed to do operate at a loss but keep delivering practically for free? This caused damage to the economy that couldn’t be recovered by lowering the price of gas. Those businesses were gone and so were those jobs, including the jobs provided by the customer who had people working in small warehouses or on the docks of the customer. No trucks, then the dock hand wasn’t needed either.

At this point large businesses took up where the small businesses left off. Sure it meant more profit for that large business but also extra cost because the large business had to put more trucks on the road to haul the extra products. But the problem was not only the extra cost from more trucks costing more in higher gas prices, but also the smaller customer could not afford to buy the products now because the large business had to raise prices to compensate for the extra cost of delivering extra products and more trucks on the road at higher gas prices. So the large businesses were lossing business even though they were making more profit from more sales, the two weren’t balancing out.

As the price reached $4.00 and over the big businesses had to raise prices again and then the consumer got in on the act by buying less, or not at all. Even though some profit was made from higher prices, the large business saw that that would not last if that trend kept up for to much longer. As consumer’s bought less and less because after all it was either buy product or buy gas for themselves the choice was easy to see what they had to do. This didn’t do the big business any good.

As the price finally reached it’s peak at $4.40 a gallon a serious dip occured in both consumers stopping buying, customers buying less because of the constant trying to keep up with the cost leved on them by the big business to keep the profit margin while trying to absorb the cost of gas to them as well, started feeling the pinch to. But they had to keep trying to cover the cost by passing it along to their customers and from them on down to the consumers. None of that was working out at all because after all everything is hinged on the consumer buying product. They stopped driving, and stopped buying, and everybody was hurting. The Democrats have always seen that if what they were doing started really hurting the people they were always willing to back off to give the people a breather. But this time they couldn’t do that because the damage was out of their control as it snowballed bigger and bigger. The only thing they could do was panic and tell the oil companies get their prices down quick.

And that’s what happened. And the price fell significantly in less than three weeks from $4.40 to $1.40 about. When the oil companies saw the American people buying gas like they hadn’t seen in years since the ’80’s it was just what the doctor ordered. This is what the Obama administration was watching as well because by the time the price fell, Obama was in office preparing to unleash his Alinskyite/ Communist agenda onto America like had never been done before.

The oil companies liked all that free profit when the price was $4.40 a gallon and they didn’t like seeing what was trickling in a dab

To continue my comment as to why gas seemed to rise even though the oil companies and the government was hurting from what serious damage was done permenantly to the economy when gas was at $4.40 a gallon.

The oil companies didn’t like seeing the little dab of profit they found themselves making when they had to lower gas to $1.40, so very soon as you all saw, that low price only stayed in place for two or three weeks, and then it took a jump to $2.30 a gallon. We did’t like that but it was better than $4.40, or hell, even $3.40 a gallon. Then we saw the price jump again to $2.80 and I’ll be damned if it looked like the damn oil companies were behind this rise again which was causing such damage to the economy just a couple of months before that. What was the matter, the oil companies didn’t learn their lesson to leave the damn prices alone??

Then we saw the price go over $3.00 a gallon and it didn’t seem like it was going to stop. It sure wasn’t in the $2.00 range for very long was it? Then it got very soon after that to $3.50 a gallon, or so. And there it has stayed since.

Well, didn’t we see what happened to the economy when the price got to $3.50 a gallon the last time?? Didn’t the oil companies like it when the consumer stopped or slowed our buying when it got that expensive, before?? What the hell was wrong with them?? Then it was obvious to us what and who was behind all of this seemingly keeping the price at a point where the American people were hurting, and were really cutting back on our buying of gas, but that’s exactly what Obama wanted us to do. See, this is Saul Alinsky, purely. And that is following environmentalist demands that were on Obama to remove our dependence on oil. That’s when we saw Obama go around the country pushing his “Green” agenda and his demand that our economy turn the corner from fossil fuels and turn to green fuels. That’s when we saw a surgence of “Hybrid” cars and SUV’s, and more importance put on “electric” cars…….enter the Chevy Volt!! What a piece of crap car!!

All the while we are pumping gas at $3.50 and up and down for all this time. Well all that has done was slowly and surely drive small businesses out of business while Obama continued to harp about “creating or saving” jobs. He wasn’t doing squawt. He was lieing his butt off and he knew it. All he was doing was catering to the environmentalists base he owed his office to.

What we need to demand of our Presidential candidate is to take another look at this treaty or whatever the hell it is that forces us to HAVE to put our oil onto the so-called “world market” first so that some third world country can tell us how much our gas is going to be, and make the necessary changes that would allow us to keep more of our oil and get all we need first before we put a drop on the world market.

I’ll bet you a million dollars(joke) that Maurice Strong is behind this treaty that forces us to not have the right to use all we want before any of our own resource is given to other countries. Maurice Strong and his buddies in the U.N. who are hard core environmentalists, who really don’t care about the environment whatsoever. Their effort is to take over the power they want to control the “developed countries” use of their own resources so that the environmentalists can punish, in this specific case, the United States for being so prosperous while other under developed countries and developing countries are suffering so badly, while American’s get to have, as Maurice Strong puts it, get to have air conditioning in their homes and places of work. What, Maurice doesn’t like being cool in the Summer, and warm in the Winter? I’ll bet he has air in everything he has including that damn corporate jet he flies around in all the time!!! Damn hypocrite!!

We as consumers must demand that the oil companies drop these prices and tell them that they are not suffering as they are making us do since we know for a fact that there is an abundance of gasoline, and has been for months now, so much so that they’ve got to get rid of it and are selling it to foreign countries instead of letting it out to the distributors and gas stations and lower the price of gas down to about $2.30 a gallon so businesses in THIS country can thrive!! Not some godless country that doesn’t give a crap about what happens to us. What the fools don’t realize is if we go down they go down to!! And that has been happening but the damn media won’t report on it to inform the American people that the rest of the world wants to see us come back.

    Everybody but Obama!!

The thing about gas prices is…you get hyped up everytime you pull up to the pump. Obama is starting to panic over this and rightly so.

Gas isn’t in the inflation calculation so it really doesn’t matter – at least if you ride around in a government car. And he didn’t do it – musta been Bush.

I’d vote for a dead snake(or eat a live one) if that would win over this Marxist.

Professional MSM Pooper Scoopers at work on these gas prices. Didn’t you know that it’s Bush’s fault. Swear to God I heard them say it. The other problem is that the oil companies make such high profits and they need to be penalized and taxed. Just like Obama has been telling us for years, it’s not fair. The big Oil Company needs to pay it’s fair share.

The Poop Scoopers will scoop up this poop and toss it back in the above form.

Where are our ELECTED Repubs??????????????? I want Boehner gone. I want the GOP head gone. I want Mitch McConnell gone. Today. Now. I can’t hear you. I can not hear you.

Remember when there was a flu vaccine shortage under Bush? Remember those Scoopers throwing that at us every day as fast as their shovels would toss? Exactly how much have you heard about the shortage of even OLD, much needed cancer drugs?

Where are our ELECTED voices? Somebody needs to be held responsible.

Bill O’Reilly does entire segments explaining that the Oil Company is the villian. He hates and demonizes them almost as much as Obama. Big Scooper Mr Bill.

    Gas Price Hypocrisy

In 2006 the Democrats and the media screamed bloody murder over the
high price of gas. When Barack Obama was inaugurated, the average gas
price was $1.87 a gallon. Now that the price has more than doubled, what
are the Democrats and the administration saying now? If you guessed that
high gas prices under Obama are somehow a good thing, give yourself a pat
on the back. The liberal mindset is always an amazing thing to behold.

what a difference year makes.. /s/
