After Cutting Pay For Soldiers in Harm’s Way… Obama to Cut Healthcare Benefits For Active Duty Soldiers, Too

They will now only get the $7.50 daily proration for the individual days they are actually serving in harm’s way instead of for the whole month. (DOD)

Barack Obama cut pay for military men and women serving in harm’s way starting this month.

Now the Obama Administration is planning on cutting healthcare benefits for active duty soldiers while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched.
The Free Beacon reported:

The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched. The proposal is causing a major rift within the Pentagon, according to U.S. officials. Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges.

The disparity in treatment between civilian and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention.

The proposed increases in health care payments by service members, which must be approved by Congress, are part of the Pentagon’s $487 billion cut in spending. It seeks to save $1.8 billion from the Tricare medical system in the fiscal 2013 budget, and $12.9 billion by 2017.

Many in Congress are opposing the proposed changes, which would require the passage of new legislation before being put in place.

“We shouldn’t ask our military to pay our bills when we aren’t willing to impose a similar hardship on the rest of the population,” Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and a Republican from California, said in a statement to the Washington Free Beacon. “We can’t keep asking those who have given so much to give that much more.”

And once again… Doug Ross reminds us:

This follows efforts by the president to make veterans pay for their own health insurance — even those injured in combat — and his calls last month for raises for millions of federal paper-pushers.

In other words, the president continues to siphon off more and more money from our defense infrastructure — hitting our warriors first, last and hardest in the process — to fund his green energy scams and public sector union cronies (which, coincidentally, also contribute heavily to his campaign).

And yet Obama will be more than happy to use these same soldiers for a photo op.

Armed Services chairman: Obama is anti-military

The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, in a harsh attack on the Obama administration Monday, accused the president of viewing American military power as a negative force in the world, and planning to “gut” defense spending through the congressional deficit-reduction committee.

“It is my suspicion that the White House and congressional Democrats” designed the supercommittee process “for one purpose: to force Republicans to choose between raising taxes or gutting defense,” said California Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon, the House Armed Services Committee chairman.

Mr. McKeon also lashed out at the administration’s defense and security policies that he asserted are based on a negative view of U.S. power in the world.

“President Obama’s policies often seem reflective of an ideology that treats American power as the principal adversary, not ally, to world peace,” he told an audience at the American Enterprise Institute.

That view “flies in the face of both history and experience. And it resigns us to national decline,” he added.

“Power in benevolent hands is a virtue, not a vice.”

White House officials declined to respond.

Under the deficit reduction act passed by Congress this summer, if the supercommittee cannot agree on a package of measures to reduce the national debt, the Defense Department, already facing spending cuts of $350 billion over 10 years, will face another half trillion or more dollars in automatic cuts — what defense officials have termed a “doomsday trigger.”

“That political gamesmanship is simply unacceptable,” Mr. McKeon said of the deal, which he voted to approve while expressing grave concerns about the potential impact on defense spending. READ MORE

It isn’t like active duty service members vote Democrat like unions do, so no wonder this criminal administration wants to make service members pay more.

Leaving Iraq too soon, now, look at it.

Afghanistan hates us and our military who have trained them to defend themselves and shoot our troops in the head.

Iran, turmoil, Syria turmoil, and much of this is Obama fault. Did anyone see the Evil eye of Glooney when a fox reporter was talking to him and said “what do you think about Obama?”

Glooney said, “Oh, the PRESIDENT not Obama and snarled at him, is great.

How many times have the disgraced President Bush, and called him Bush. It is evident that none of these celebrities know what is really happening to our military and their families.

Obama is a disgrace, Yes, he is president, not mine, but a President stands strong with his men. The military is the most important part of this nation and its freedom. Many sacrificed their life for him and all of us.

He is disrespecting the office of the presidency. He has failed us and we are suffering more each day he does such horrible things. He needs to be impeached and I am wondering why the delay. Too much contrary to the job of a president has transpired over the past 3 years that no other president could ever get away with.

I think this is more incentive for the generals to surround the WH with tanks. Our Constitution is under attack by the radicals occupying the WH so its time to protect our country from some of the “domestic enemies.”

Barry can screw active duty members because he knows they won’t mutiny and stage a coup against him.

Liberals want peace, that isn’t going to happen in the world. That is like a wish.

Liberals want electric, wind or solar energy and that isn’t going to happen. Totally.

Liberals want us to help other nations and all will be free from illness and national disasters. That won’t happen.

Liberals want no war, Iran will come around to our side, Syria just needs time and they too will have peace and love.

All the hungry in the world fed. No more disease and all babies that are unwanted will be aborted.

Borders will be open to everyone, we will live in Obamaville, Happy to have government dictate to us what we eat, drink, drive, how we raise our childeren and the world under the Government’s thumb will be better.

So, the heck with the military we won’t need them, the liberals will have their save places living the high life until the attacks on us are over.

I say instead of being corrected by the likes of Glooney, Moore, Mayer, Fallen, O’Donnell, Sarandan, Judd and all the bleeding hearts, send them to the front lines.

When I was in the Army I was a paratrooper. That was in 1966. I joined in July of 1966 and by the middle of December I had gone through Basic Training, Advanced Infantry Training (AIT), and went right on to Paratrooper Training at Ft. Benning, Ga. . That was alot for five months, but by that time I had been promoted to PFC, and after “jump school” I was getting $66.00 a month what was called “hazardous duty pay”. It wasn’t the money I’ll guarantee you because it was a pitance compared to what I was getting ready to do and that was all the specialized training I had volunteered for in preparation for combat. But I felt privliged because in the five months during my intense training the Army was drafting 25,000 guys a month to train so they could go to Vietnam right after AIT(see above). That meant in a measly 16 weeks 25,000 guys were facing Charlie in the jungles of Southeast Asia!

Some of these guys were still a E2, or the grade you automatically got after AIT if you hadn’t been good enough to get a promotion after Basic Training like I was. Those guys were making less than $50 dollars a month with the $66 dollars hazardous duty pay. So guys were joining the Army back then not for the money but to defend Southeast Asia from Communist takeover. It’s to bad they didn’t know that their own country was already mostly taken over by the Socialist/Communists. The Army should have been training us to go into our own cities to root out Communists in the nations colleges and universities and find the Communist professors and shoot them where we found them. But instead we were sent ten thousand miles away to kill VC and NVA. They were Communist to, but at least they weren’t Saul Alinsky who was prowling the campuses back then teaching young minds who are ten times smarter than any grad these days because of our background.

I say “our” because Vietnam was the first teenage war, and on average our soldiers had the highest I.Q. and highest education of any generation to ever to have fought for this country. We were smart, and warrior’s to. We could explain the history of the America’s in one minute, and the next kill six gooks walking down a trail in the jungle.

So we weren’t fighting for the money. But see, these kids these days know all about income equity and how much they are worth. I’m sure they don’t like the fact that Obama is treating them like they’re some kind of hired help. These kids know the difference between good pay for what you’re doing, and when you are being ripped off. They won’t stay long in the service. The first opportunity they are given to get out….they will.

    Some quotes from Obama

“Whatever we once were, we’re no longer a Christian nation.”

“America does not presume to know what is best for everyone”

“As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.”

“In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world.”

“The United States is still working through some of our own darker periods in our history.”

“Too often, the United States has not pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors.”

“The United States will be willing to acknowledge past errors where those errors have been made.”

“So let me be clear: no system of government can or should be imposed upon one nation by any other.”

“We need to internalize this idea of excellence. Not many folks spend a lot of time trying to be excellent.”

“Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism – it is an important part of promoting peace.”

“Our country still struggles with the legacies of slavery and segregation, the past treatment of Native Americans.”

“The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person….”

“That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.”

“My job to the Muslim world is to communicate that the Americans are not your enemy. We sometimes make mistakes. We have not been perfect.”

“So the record is clear: Rather than keeping us safer, the prison at Guantanamo has weakened American national security. It is a rallying cry for our enemies.”

Great post but Obama is reducing our military, Nuclear defense and for these soldiers they deserve better.

Military needs to pay less or free healthcare. I maybe vicious here but they are losing limbs, brain injuries. I suppose organizations like Wounded Warriors are suppose to take up the slack.

This president is Cutting our Military and I wish I could scream this from the roof tops.

Our nation is our Military. Our defense is in the Military. Good Grief.

We’ve been bankrupted and will be lucky to have any military in 5 years.

Don’t worry, though, Admiral Barry is on the case, along with General Moochie.

It enrages me knowing that illegal immigrants are getting billions of dollars worth of socialist government goodies while American citizens get screwed.

Imminent Danger Pay (IDP) at $7.50 per day makes sense when you look at the picture outside of the two main operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are a host of nations in which IDP is authorized and many SM’s spend as little as one day in the area and previously earned the full month IDP rate of $225 ($7.50 times 30 equals $225). Also, some trips could last a week which would contain the end of one month and the begining of another and they would get the full two month rate of $450. Ships would be in an IDP area for a single day and every SM on board would get the $225. This change makes sense is should have been enacted long ago. When reporting on things of this nature, it is better to keep perspective and report the facts rather than saying “The White House Hates the Military.” I am not keen on the administration, but we need useful, objective arguments rather than bold headlines.
