A large earthquake today has prompted a tsunami alert off of Sumatra.
The Australian reported:
An undersea earthquake off Indonesia with a magnitude of 7.3 has prompted a tsunami alert for northern Sumatra.
The quake occurred 20km below sea level shortly after 5.30am AEDT today.
Australian authorities said there was no tsunami threat to mainland Australia, islands or territories, however the Indonesian government issued an early alert.
The quake took place off the west coast of northern Sumatra.
UPDATE: The tsunami warning was lifted following the quake.
