I am sure there are many things much worse than this but this was caught on tape. There was another incident a few year back where our troops did something objectionable but I do remember our condemnation but nothing but a reprimand.

The act and the picture were both bad ideas, that’s true. But we’re looking at the aftermath of a life-and-death combat situation, with extreme stress and emotion involved. The dead Taliban were trying to kill our guys moments earlier, so I cannot condemn them for this. To do so would be a bad case of armchair quarterbacking and judgementalism without understanding.

As for the Taliban being offended, they can go pound sand. 7th Century death cult throwbacks without enough civility to exist anywhere in the world other than filthy backwaters like Afghanistan. No respect is earned, and none given.

Lastly, the little reporterette needs to be slapped. Despite her faux “concern” voice, she was obviously overjoyed by the opportunity to spread this story, complete with the additional trimwork about Abu Graib, and making sure the men involved were clearly identified by unit.

It would be a rational defense that as such, the conduct of the soldiers in the field would mirror that of its civilian leadership. This being said, I would defend the President in this instance that our soldiers are trained to behave ethically, not in the manner of the crooks, liars, cheats and thugs. Unlike the deluded idiots in the progressive movement who blamed Bush for stray dogs getting run over in Iraq, we must hold these involved soldiers and their immediate leadership accountable should these charges be true.

I’d finally note that it’s absurd for Afghanistan to cry and even more amusing to see Russia reporting this news. Most of us are well aware that during the Soviet occupation, they’d simply burn down buildings with the women and children inside and engage in relentless war crimes out of their frustration with the resisting populace. One could also look to China’s treatment and violent occupation of Tibet and Uyghurstan, where pissing on dead bodies would be the least of daily offenses.

A few years ago Germany had a similar “scandal”. Some German soldiers in A-stan were posing with skulls and took photos. The German media and the professional whiners fell over screaming murder.

Those talis aren’t even soldiers. I’d cut off the heads of the dead and put them on display. I’d hang, draw and quarter any survivors after getting information from them by any means necessary. The commanders will have a hard time trying to do something with these young Marines. I personally believe that it is unprofessional and simply immature to do what these guys are doing. I am a Marine and I believe the best thing to do to these guys is to have their platoon leader PT them on the quarterdeck, give them some duty in the mess hall for month, and take away some of their weekend Liberty in exchange for chores in the barracks. This is exactly what our Staff Sergeant did to us at Stinger School when I was a Lance Corporal back in the early 90′s. Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which is the rulebook for all military personnel, there is a code of conduct which applies to the treatment of prisoners, wounded and captured enemies, and the proper care and arrest of enemy combatants. There used to be something there which forbids sodomy, homosexuality, and beastiality. But under Obama, anything goes.

Way to go Obama…. you have now legalized sodomy and sex with animals. If you have legalized these acts, how in the hell are you going to prosecute a handful of young Jarheads pissing on a carcass. What these guys are doing is unacceptable, and should be handled by their senior NCO’s……… off the books. I am sure they will not do that sort of thing again.

The investigating officer concluded that the charges and specifications are in the proper form and that reasonable grounds exist to believe that the accused committed the offenses alleged. He recommended that the charges be referred to a general court martial.

The Special Court Martial Convening Authority will now review the investigating officer’s report and determine whether the charges should be disposed of at his level or be forwarded to Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington, the General Court Martial Convening Authority for disposition at his level.

Pfc. Manning is charged with aiding the enemy; wrongfully causing intelligence to be published on the internet knowing that it is accessible to the enemy; theft of public property or records; transmitting defense information; fraud and related activity in connection with computers; and for violating Army Regulations 25-2 “Information Assurance” and 380-5 “Department of the Army Information Security Program.”

If convicted of all charges, Manning would face a maximum punishment of
reduction to the lowest enlisted pay grade, E-1; total forfeiture of all pay
