Well, at least it’s not Pelosi.
Newt Gingrich will hold a rally with liberal Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) in South Carolina.
What a wacky decision.
The State reported:

As he fights for the Republican presidential nomination, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will appear with one of the South Carolina’s most prominent Democrats.

Gingrich is scheduled to speak at a homeownership rally on Thursday in front of the State House along with U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, South Carolina’s lone Democratic congressman.

Other speakers include state Treasurer Curtis Loftis, who has endorsed Mitt Romney for president.

The rally is organized by the Home Builders Association of South Carolina and the National Association of Home Builders.

“Lawmakers and regulators are crafting proposals that, if left unchecked, will harm home owners, home buyers, the housing market and the nation’s economy,” organizers said in a news release. “On Thursday, January 12, Columbia’s home builders, Realtors and other industry professionals will join political, business and community leaders for a rally on the steps of the South Carolina State House to tell policymakers that homeownership still works in America…and needs our strong support.”

  1. Newt Clie Burn…sounds like a witches brew.

  2. Where is Cyndi Lauper?
    “I see your true colors……”

  3. Here we go again, with a prominent Republican thinking he can be “liked” if he cozies up to a leftie Dem. This is a complete falsehood, yet we see “smart” Republicans falling for the trick over and over again.

  4. Newt, this is exactly the sort of thing that caused people to not trust you in the first place. As your campaign collapses, we see the real you emerging… again.

  5. And Newt can’t figure out why he’s not ahead?

    Does he think that Clyburn won’t turn around and slam him if ‘the Won’ told him to?

  6. Is there going to be a couch-loveseat there?

  7. Newt = dope.

  8. This is a case where the headline and the story don’t really match. The way I read the story Newt is merely a fellow participant. The home builders are concerned about Obama harming their profession. This is not even remotely close to Newt and Pelosi on the couch talking about global warming.

  9. Newt doesn’t always use common sense.
    .

  10. Spiralling downward towards a liberal abyss.

  11. C’mon, Jim.. Really? I had more faith in you. Newt to HOLD Rally – and SCHEDULED to speak are completely different things. Conservatives have had to turn to the web and talk radio for our news, and lo and behold, we’re finding the same spin that the liberal media has been feeding us for years! It’d be a different story if the Homebuilders Association was a well known liberal organization – but they aren’t.
    And I see from the above comments, your readers are falling for it! ONE thing the liberal media DOES NOT DO is eat their own.

    i for one am not going to pre-judge..

    it could very well turn out to be quite revealing, could also put a
    lid on his campaign, have to wait & see if it’s genius or suicide..
    because it will be one or the other..

  14. It’s how he gets to speak to the people who are coming out to see Clyburn. Might even change a mind or two. Why don’t you wait to hear what he actually says before piling on?

    Go Newt – I’ll vote for you over Perry, Mittens and Ru Paul any day of the week.

    Reaganite Republican

    have to admit, that that was my first thought, but
    dismissed because i think she favors Santorum..

    aaah, we shall see, meantime we can only hope..

    btw, Cain is on a bus tour (not campaigning)..

    ==

  18. I guess Newt is lurching Left in order to split the RINO vote. It might be the only way to keep the other Conservatives in the race and keep Romney from running away with the nomination. If Romney loses South Carolina, Florida, and Nevada, we could have a brokered convention.

    Paul won’t drop anytime soon. He didn’t drop out last time until June.

  19. After the infamous Pelosi/Couch debacle, this is going to be viewed badly by conservatives, no matter what the precise nature of the appearance might be.

  20. If I didn’t know better, I would think that headline is deliberately misleading. Newt is not holding a rally with Clyburn. He is merely speaking at a rally being held by the Home Builders Assoc of SC and the National Home Builders Assoc. So what? Mittens thinks he’s already won the primary, so he’s sending a surrogate via this Loftis fellow.

  21. When the headline and the actual intent of the candidate don’t match up, it’s time to stop reading and commenting on this blog.

  22. ++

    yeah Newt.. snub an invite to speak at the:

    Home Builders Association of South Carolina and
    the National Association of Home Builders Rally
    ..

    that’s the ticket.. /s/

    i’ve a question, can conservatives still claim to be “critical thinkers”??

    ==

  23. This is yellow journilism, or should we call it, “Yellow Bloggerism” at its worst. Shame on you.

  24. … I’m not even a Newt fan! I’ve come to the conclusion that come November, I’ve got to eat ANOTHER crap sandwich! I’m only making the point that we, as conservatives, (even after turning to alternative “news” sources) are being fed the same spin as if we were tuned into the liberal media – and we’re falling for it, hook, line and sinker! The headline “Newt to SPEAK AT Rally with Lib James Clyburn..” wouldn’t have had the same effect though, would it?

  25. bg #25 “i’ve a question, can conservatives still claim to be “critical thinkers”??

    I haven’t seen much of that lately so my answer to you would be “No.”

    Exactly. Newt was invited by the Association which isn’t a Liberal group at all. They also invited a Dem, probably to be fair.

    What’s next? Perry spoke to a Dem member of the legislature? Santorum shopped at a Dem supporter’s supermarket? Geez, can we please stop this jumping to conclusions? I’m not a fan of any of our candidates, but this is ridiculous.

    Yeah, I’m with you. But it is Jim’s site and he can run it as he likes. That said, I don’t have a problem with him supporting a particular candidate or cause or whatever. But I did think he would be more fair about it. Lately it seems as though that hasn’t been present. I assume Jim edits and posts the articles, so then he is the one who has been sort-of altering the headlines to fit a certain meme. I hope he realizes if that’s the case it harms his credibility. But then maybe he doesn’t care?

  31. Wacky decision? How about go for it! He has already pissed away any chance that he had at the nomination, with his arrogance and stupid statements, so nothing changes. Ron Paul should have just aimed his call to quit at Newt. Newt is the one who looks like a loon now.

  32. He might as well sit on a couch with Debbie Downer. He’s beginning to sound like her.

  33. More on that rally. I checked this site
    http://hbaofgreenville.blogspot.com/2012/01/speaker-newt-gingrich-will-speak-at.html
    and there was no mention of Clyburn but a big write-up about Newt. So maybe it was the other way around and Clyburn jumped on the bandwagon after Newt? And one of the speakers is a Romney supporter. At any rate this is a business sponsored rally, something Conservatives are supposed to support.

    imho, it was one of only two i consider the
    best debates so far this campaign season..

    the TV debates are nothing more
    than Q & A controlled by liberals..

    ==

  41. According to Rush Limbaugh, Newt says that this isn’t true. He said that Newt thinks the story was fed to the media, by someone in the Romney camp.

    sorry,but what isn’t true??

    thank you..

    ==

  43. bg

    Just what is says, Newt and Cain had a debate that was wonderful. Here too there maybe the same style.

    And “Other speakers include state Treasurer Curtis Loftis, who has endorsed Mitt Romney for president.”

    Loftis endorsed Romney that is what was meant by getting closer to Romney has Romney doesn’t want to have a thing to do with Gingrich.

  44. ++

    Patty #47 January 11, 2012 at 11:32 am

    pretty long strectch..

    even if it weren’t a strecth, the onus is on Romney, not Newt..

    Newt Gingrich retracted his attacks against Mitt Romney/Bain,
    and Mitt Romney retracted his comments about firing people..

    I’ll have to start looking closer.
