John Murtha Stole the Honor From 8 Innocent Marines – Join the Movement to ‘Stop Murtha Ship’

Earlier this week the 8th and final Haditha Marine was exonerated.
“Marine Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich agreed to plead guilty Monday to one count of negligent dereliction of duty, ending his trial on manslaughter and related charges for his role in the deaths of 24 Iraqi civilians in 2005.”

SHAME ON JOHN MURTHA—
The former Democratic representive smeared innocent men serving their country.
There was no “murder in cold blood.”

Cold-blooded John Murtha was wrong about the Haditha marines.
Barack Obama was wrong about Haditha, too.

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani was found not guilty of all charges on June 16, 2008.
That made 7 of 8 Marines who had their charges dismissed.
This week the 8th and final Marine was found not guilty.

Photos via Defend Our Marines
Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani became the 7th of 8 marines cleared of wrongdoing in the Haditha, Iraq killings in 2005. The final Haditha Marine to stand trial reached a plea deal this week ending his trial on manslaughter and related charges.

John Murtha took the honor from the 8 Haditha Marines.

Never forget…
Haditha Was Exploited To Increase Danger To The US, US Troops, And To Noncombatants

Now there is a movement to stop the US Navy from honoring this antiwar Democrat with a ship in his name.

No Murtha Ship! has been created by concerned Navy veterans and their supporters who believe that politicians like John Murtha should be indicted, not celebrated. We are led by Larry Bailey, a retired Navy Captain who spent 27 years as a Navy SEAL.

Larry announced the launch of No Murtha Ship this week after the 8th and final Haditha Marine was exonerated.

Folks, this is the official launch of our effort to convince the Secretary of the Navy that LPD-26, the ship that is to be launched next year, should be named after either a great American city (like her sister LPD, the USS San Antonio) or a true American hero.

Here is our brand-new website: http://www.nomurthaship.com Take a look. Scott Swett did a great job of putting it up, and Linda Eddy did a great job of designing our logo.

We intend to serve notice on Navy Secretary Ray Mabus that it is intolerable to name this fine vessel after John P. Murtha, arguably (and demonstrably) one of the most corrupt politicians ever to sit in Congress.

It should be made clear that we are not connected to any political party or movement; we just want our Navy’s ships to be named appropriately.

Pass the word, please, to your mailing lists. And tell recipients that any money raised over what our actual costs are (website management, advertisements, etc.) will be donated to a worthy military charity. Nobody is on salary, but contributions will be required to keep us up and running.

You will note that checks must be made out to “Larry Bailey/Sink Murtha.” That is because my bank (USAA Bank) would not allow me to open an account under an organizational name. We also have a PayPal account, as you’ll see on the website.

You have my permission to simply forward this e-mail. However you pass the word is all right with me; just get the message out there that we will not allow a corrupt congressman to be honored by the US Navy!

Many thanks to you all!

Larry Bailey

I’m on board. Murtha should not be honored in this way, or in any other way. Disgraceful human being, and not just for his blatant lies and slander of the Marines. He made a career of being disreputable.

  • Can’t they just name one of the ships toilets after him.

  • MrGoodWench

Hey lets name a ship after Nidal Hassan too !
    I mean why not ??

  • Peter Warner

This is a great idea, and I hope it gains broad support. There are many Naval veterans who would like to see an earlier tradition of naming ships after battles, or states, returned to. Even the British tradition of using names like ‘Intrepid’ for warships would be welcome. Let’s get serious about our traditions, and stop treating our warships like political trinkets. It’s embarrassing.

#2: That’s a great comment and a great idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone actually did that.

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  • Militant Conservative

Murtha was a politician first and never a patriot or

A true marine. You have to love America for the

    Latter two.

  • Corsair

All Veterans and family of veterans should go to the site now and sign the petition! There are just over 200 when I signed. Let’s see if we can’t be in the thousands by the end of today!

  • bear

    Already on the list.

If the Navy wants to honor a dirtbag like murtha, they should just name the ship “quisling,” “benedict arnold,” or “osama bin ladin.”

  • daryl

I don’t like to speak ill of the dead but the only thing presented posthumously to this old worthless pos is a HUGE SIGN over his grave proclaiming him as “THE CONGRESSIONAL KING OF PORK”.
Name a ship for him?? HELL NO!! Sign a petition to prevent it?? HELL YES!!

Rep. Murtha Dead At 77 | Fox News

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/02/08/rep-murtha-dead/

    Quote from article:
“A hint of scandal lingered over much of Murtha’s career. The FBI named Murtha an “unindicted co-conspirator” in its ABSCAM sting operation in the late 1970s and early ’80s. ABSCAM resulted in the conviction of six House members and one senator. The FBI recorded Murtha on videotape declining a $50,000 bribe from federal agents posing as Arab sheiks. But the congressman did say he could be interested in future dealings.

Nicknamed “The King of Pork,” Murtha also faced scrutiny for earmarking federal dollars for projects in his district. Numerous news reports lambasted the congressman for steering money to the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport. The facility received $150 million from Washington for upgrades despite limited commercial use. But the airport is also used for military purposes”.

  • Giesterfarher

To say that speaking ill of the dead is a bad thing means that we can’t tell the truth. Unless you believe that Hitler should be spoken of with reverence, simply because he resides in hell these days.

The USS Murtha will never sail, simply because no one will want to command it, or sail on it. If it gets that despicable mans name, I predict it will be scuttled at the dock. 😉

  • How outrageous that Sec Mabus would name a Navy ship after Cesar Chavez, who described his two short years in the military like this:

“Later, Chávez described his experience in the military as “the two worst years of my life.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%A9sar_Ch%C3%A1vez

Now Sec Mabus wants to name a Navy ship after a corrupt Ex-Marine who called his brothers “cold blooded killers.”

John Murtha’s name belongs in the Hall of Traitors, not on a ship carrying nboble Heroes!

  • Bitter Clinger

I called bright and early this morning and made my feelings known. If enough of us do that, they should get the message. Start the conversation by thanking them for their service and then remind them that we (taxpayers) are the ones purchasing the ship and we don’t want a corrupt, anti American politician’s name on it. It’s disgusting!

  • burt

Next we’ll have ships named after Robert E. Lee.

  • mg4us

Murtha was a turn-coat commie/statist sympathizer . . . letting his district rot and decay while stuffing ineffective pork projects there which did little to improve the lives of its citizens or communities there.

    I say INDICT Murtha. . .

Piss of His Grave for the dishonorable thing to call a fellow serviceman guilty BEFORE proven of any wrong-doing. . .

And may Murtha’s family be disgraced too. . .

Technically the SSgt wasn’t exonerated. They settled out of court. That’s a difference. He wasn’t convicted, yes, but he wasn’t acquitted either.

The Murtha ship should never have been considered. Simple as that. Murtha, just like all those bloodsucking tics on the Hill, was a lying, power hungry piece of human waste.

John Murtha was a traitor to this nation, and should be considered an EX-Marine.

And our military should not even name a toilet after this man. The only thing that he deserves is to be named after is the stuff that goes INTO the toilets!

  • My comments when I signed the petition:

I respectfully but firmly urge the Secretary of the Navy to reconsider breaking the Navy’s tradition of naming its San Antonio-class amphibious transports after American cities and instead naming the Navy’s new LPD (Transport Dock Ship) after a vile and corrupt politician whose words and deeds slandered the entire United States Marine Corps in general and eight brave and honorable Marines in particular, all of whom have been exonerated of the outrageous, unsupported charges made by the late Congressman Murtha. I juxtapose Mr. Murtha’s lies with these eternal truths, spoken by two the the greatest Presidents in American history.

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars to be treated and appreciated by their nation.” – George Washington

“Any nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure.” – Abraham Lincoln

These men were leaders during two of the most trying times in our history, and they honored and respected our military and uplifted them. Mr. Murtha and his slander represent the antithesis of the values held by this nation and its military, and they should not be celebrated or honored in any way, especially by naming a ship of the United States Navy after Mr. Murtha to be a perpetual insult to all sailors and Marines who serve aboard her.

I also printed the flyer and signed the petition to send to the Sec. of the Navy. I to left a comment to the tune of do not allow this ship to be named after Murtha and to follow the requirement of naming this class of ships after a state. If he gets these petitions and has the opportunity to read them he may get the idea, but if not it will be the fact that his room is full of signed petitions of sufficient numbers to convince any normal person that he should follow the requirements and forget about honoring a former Marine general who was also a elected representative. Whether he was a criminal is up to history to prove. Of course there is overwhelming proof that Murtha broke the law by telling a reporter about something that was under military security of information that had yet to be properly found out. In other words Murtha broke the law by giving info to a reporter before the case had even been investigated and taken to court. The case wasn’t even under investigation yet and Murtha had no authority to say a damn thing about it.

Besides the Marines did the right thing anyway because as the limits they were under to try and kill the enemy, when you are being shot at from a building nearby and a car was racing towards the check point, you only have a second to formulate a plan of action to deal with the threat. If you decide to go into the building you should be prepared to shoot whoever was in there, when there wasn’t supposed to be anybody in there, who else would they be other than terrorists? Kill them all, let God sort them out.

  • bg #26, me either, not even one of the PC measured-eye-dropper-micro-flush crappers that you have to flush 5 times…although, now that you mention it, do you remember the “Hanoi Jane” urinal inserts…maybe a John Murtha version is in order.

  • “a former Marine general”

naw, Murtha was just a grunt, but he lost his “brotherhood” with the Corps when he turned traitor.

  • Is there a petition we can sign to stop this name event to take place?

I think it is called, uh, war.
Study what actually happened there and you’ll realize why 7 of 8 were guilty of nothing, and the other was guilty of a rather minor offense.
I will chose to give a whole lot of latitude to our soldiers who are opperating in a very difficult war zone against an enemy that hides in shadows, wears no uniform, etc., in the heart of population centers.

  • Socra-Troll, you have had years to learn what actually happened, how the insurgents set it all up, how they killed several of the civilians and placed their bodies into the rooms, how they used civilians as shields, how they intentionally tried to draw fire into the civilians, etc. and how they provided propaganda to Murtha so he could carry water for them. So far, all you have done is make an A$$ of yourself. Contribute to the conversation of expect to be ignored or corrected. Posters here are savvy and don’t abide trolls and fools very well.

The navy has been corrupted, it is now a wing of the leftist democrat party. “Gays in the military” pushed through by Admiral Mullen, naming an aircraft carrier for Gerard Ford? next in line will be aircraft carriers for Carter,Clinton and Obama? Before only “great” Americans got ships named after them, now any 2-bit politician gets a ship named after them.
I’m sure a ship name after Barney Frank isn’t out of the question.

Is it true that Murtha was buried vertical and upside down just like a fence post. The real problem is in the future when or “if” (birther issue) is when the country “has” to build a carrier for Barack Obama. By then there probalby won’t be any carriers and fleets left so this just might be a mute problem.

    Larry,
For a Navy Seal that killed one of his own men possibly because of the anxiety of the possibility of dying on the field of battle, I just don’t understand your constant animosity and
hate you have personally spewed against one of the greatest supporters of our fighting men
and their families. I spoke at a recent meeting about Haditha and my comments were that
SSGT. Wuterick has suffered long enough. He was left hanging when everyone rolled over
on him and he was left all alone. I stated that when he is court martialed, whatever the verdict, if innocent-let him move on with his life-if guilty, the President should pardon him
    immediately.
As far as Murtha’s statement on Haditha, his concern was for the troops being re-entered into a combat environment time and time again with short rotatations home that could cause an incident to happen as it did. As a former SSgt and Korean veteran, I don’t know
if my commands would have been any different from Wutericks after seeing my troops wounded and killed.
If you want to say anything about Jack Murtha, remember when the DOD cut military pensions to 40% for 20 years, he put 15 Billion into the Defense budget to bring it up to 50% again. If you are enjoying Tricare and Tricare For Life as I know you are- Thank him
for what he did for the troops, their families and all the retirees.
You used the Swiftboat Tactics before and you had your head handed to you.
Larry, be professional and not a fanatic. I knew the man for 51 years and he not only loved his Marines but all our military. Give him the respect he deserves.

  • Raymond G. Logan

Beyond the naming of a ship for John Murtha – WHY are politicians having their names plastered on US Navy ships in the 1st place? Our ships used to be named for historic battles (Yorktown, Midway, Lexington, Saratoga), Great ships (Enterprise, Hornet, Wasp, Bon Homme Richard), and great heroes (Ernest Evans, Reuben James, John Paul Jones, Farragut). Now? They are named for politicians and bureaucrats – Jimmy Carter? Trent Lott? Stennis? Let’s name them again for real heroes and actual Historic points of pride. Not for the guy who signed a piece of paper.
