The Iowa Ethanol group sent this flier out before the caucuses on Tuesday. Only one Republican candidate consistently opposed government subsidies for this industry.

The Iowans for Ethanol openly supported Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney.
They opposed Rick Perry.

  1. **ck ethanol. Who needs $8 box’s of cornflakes when we have all the oil and jobs here in America that we will ever need ? If only we had leaders who actually wanted Americans working for a living and without this incredible food inflation.

  2. I am not a big Rick Perry fan, but I do admit those adds make him more attractive as a candidate. That was their goal, right?

  3. Perry has the same campaign ethics as Al Gore. Make a statement throwing in the towel and take it back moments later after your big millionaire sugar daddy contributor Steve Forbes calls you on the phone. The people said no to Perry…Steve Forbes said carry on. Perry chooses to obey Steve Forbes. Typical republican politician…Ignore the voters, follow the money.

  4. You want to make ethanol, fine. Do it. But not on the backs of tax payer handouts.

  5. Yeah I really wish the government would stop mandating that i use 90% petroleum based fuel in my truck. It’s just not FAIR!!! baahahahahaha

  6. It would be great if the Ethanol Group would instead focus on Iowans growing an ear of corn with straight rows like I used to have growing up!

  7. donh–

Before shooting off your mouth about something about which you have no inside information, I would suggest you read the following:

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/06/us-usa-campaign-perry-idUSTRE80500020120106.

  8. Ethanol from corn has never made ecomomic sense. Without subsidy, it cannot compete. 37% of the corn crop is used to produce this government subsidized fuel. Think what that does to food prices and the prioce of corn for expoert.

Sugar price supports have killed more jobs over time than many realize. Why not end ethanol support, and sugar price supports. Job losses and gains would probably more than cancel out. We would have more grain, and lower food prices.

  9. All this speaks highly of Rick Perry, it seems to me.

Finncrisp (and others) are correct, the impact of diverting so much of our corn crop into ethanol has been to raise the price of grain (and therefore food) drastically in other countries. This goes unnoticed by most Americans, but for those who devote most of their income to feeding their families, it is a painful and frightening thing. Some have linked the revolts of the ‘Arab spring’ to the rise in food costs, in fact.

This is another example of how government meddling produces unintended (and largely negative) consequences.

This may also be an example of the soundness of Rick Perry’s instincts.

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  10. By continuing his campaign Rick Perry is only reaffirming his most glaring singular weakness…STUPIDITY…He is too dumb to realize how poorly he did in Iowa and deal with it like a man of dignity. Now he’s just going to be a walking dead zombie fumbling for 5% . Thank you Michelle Bachman for your professionalism in stepping aside for the greater good team effort.

  11. According to their flyer they support Barack Obama more than Rick Perry.

  12. Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich, same old shiat!

    RON PAUL 2012

  13. want high food costs? support ethanol subsidies. pay ourselves to grow corn for fuel when we are no exporting gasoline and natural gas? come on get serious.

bout like bailing out electric cars, isn’t? way to go iowa farmers. look in your pockets now! won’t be nothin there when obama wins again! duh!

  14. Based on those charts, they also support Obama … pathetic ….

  15. I guess Rick Perry is the man…………..

  16. Once again the ant-Perry’s throw out their deep and well thought out statements of opposition:
“He’s a moron”, “He’s an idiot”. If you’re going to oppose a candidate, fine, for once it would be nice to see someone here doing it with an honest, issues based, and thought out commentary rather than some DNC/Daily KOS/HuffPo talking point.

“the fix is in for Perry”

[Perry called Pickens “a Texas legend of almost untold stature”
with an energy plan of global significance. The governor explained:

The energy plan he laid out … could change the world forever. That’s
the type of vision, that’s the type of innovation, that’s the type of
leader that the world need’s right now.]

    China’s favorite candidate

[With Texas Governor Rick Perry expected to make an "announcement"
on Saturday at a conservative conference in South Carolina, scrutiny of
his record is more important than ever — particularly a look at his record
with regard to China. In spite of posturing as an independent Christian
conservative, Perry has consistently contributed to what is called the
    Chinafication of America.]

    go figure..

[While Perry focused on Huawei’s ability to create jobs in a sluggish
economy, national security experts in both the George W. Bush and
Obama administrations had concluded that the global telecom giant
poses a potential cyber-security risk to the U.S. military and businesses.
Three times since 2008, a U.S. government security panel has blocked
Huawei from acquiring or partnering with U.S. companies because of
concerns that secrets could be leaked to China’s government or military.]

Perry, a GLOBALIST?? nah, you’re an obtuse twit.. /s/

  18. Further proof that it’s special interests that are hastening the fall of our country. With so many having their hands out, and so many politicians only too eager to grease those palms, it’s amazing that the USA has lasted as long as it has.

  19. Just this alone is justification for a Perry/Bachmann ticket. It won’t happen, but I can dream.
