Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters this weekend that she plans on releasing dirt on Newt Gingrich… “When the time is right.”
The Hill reported:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding back some information on Republican Newt Gingrich that could detract from his presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.
“One of these days we’ll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich,” Pelosi told Talking Points Memo. “When the time is right. … I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.”
Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House, worked with Pelosi in Congress from 1987 to 1999. Pelosi also served on the ethics committee that investigated Gingrich for tax cheating and campaign finance violations in the late ’90s.
Gingrich filmed an ad with then-House Speaker Pelosi in 2008 to urge action on climate change, which haunted him early in his presidential bid this year. Gingrich called the ad “probably the dumbest single thing I’ve done in recent years” last month.
What a horrible woman.
Then again, maybe Pelosi’s just pi$$ed because Newt called for her resignation in 2009.

Damn it. Why & who let her out?
Isn’t there some ethical consideration which limits how/when information obtained by a Congressional investigative committee can be used — and by who? Why would a Congressional Committee be assigned for a year to investigate Gingrich ?

I understand why you feel that way. But the closest comparison to this situation in recent history is 1979/80, and Carter lost in a landslide, despite a lot of polling at the time saying he was in like Flynn for another four years.
Then there was W, who is not all that conservative, who beat the anointed Algore in 2000.
Though Algore was not incumbent, he was the VP of a popular incumbent, which is nearly the same thing (a la Bush 41).
We’re not sunk, and we haven’t even begun to fight. Our fight begins after the primary.
BTW, if Nancy Pelosi wants to release dirt:
1. Why does she so brazenly announce that she’s engaging in political game-playing by “picking a time”?
2. Why doesn’t she just pull that shiny mask she’s wearing taut and let it snap back. That ought to release at least a little dirt.
Larkin commented:
Whatever dirt there is on Newt will pale by comparison to the existing dirt on obama, not to mention his corrupt administration.

Yet the most interesting facet of this latest survey is how the Congressman matches up in a hypothetical head to head with Obama.
The poll finds that the incumbent President betters all GOP competitors except for Ron Paul.
This highlights how Paul’s biggest hurdle is securing the nomination. There is no doubt that Obama would have a real fight on his hands to retain the presidency against Ron Paul.
Paul also leads Obama 42 to 35% among independent voters and attracts 15 percent of Iowa’s Democrats according to the survey. The Congressman also betters Obama by 14 percentage points among voters under 45 years of age.
Tellingly, Paul also leads the way over his GOP rivals with 25% among voters who see a candidate’s position on the issues, rather than electability or popularity, as the most important factor of their candidacy

The fact that Pelosi seems to feel it necessary to threaten Newt at this early a date says something. She wants to dethrone Gingrich so that Obama gets to run against Romney. The Democrats think Obama can beat Romney, and they aren’t so sure about Gingrich.
No matter who we pick, the Democrats are going to run the dirtiest campaign any of us have ever seen against him/her. Just remember, no one we pick is going to be a saint. Every one of us has skeletons of some kind in our closet. At least Gingrich’s skeletons are mostly known by now. And he knows where the bodies in Washington DC are buried, so if I were Pelosi, I’d think twice before threatening him too seriously, unless she wants to find a few choice skeletons of her own exposed for public viewing.
As far as I am concerned, any of the candidates (except possibly Huntsman and maybe Paul, although I’m not sure of that) would be an improvement on the current disaster-in-chief. If we have another 4 years of Obama, we aren’t going to have a country.

This might be another reason why Newt gives Dems heartburn:
Perhaps most significantly, Gingrich has an extensive Hispanic outreach organization, which he has been building for years. Unlike anything in the Romney playbook, that network could give Gingrich a head start slicing into Obama’s base in key states in the Mountain West, where Hispanics are a fast-growing swing voting bloc. Polls show Hispanic voters, two-thirds of whom backed Obama in 2008, still favor the president — but GOP strategists believe that winning 40 percent of that vote could disrupt Obama’s electoral college strategy by putting Colorado, Arizona and Nevada in the Republican column.

Newt Stinks, But…
http://www.personalliberty.com/conservative-politics/newt-stinks-but-and-other-thoughts/?eiid=
Extracts:
Gingrich should be anathema to conservatives. In fact, for all the reasons Romney hasn’t appealed to conservatives, Gingrich can go one (at least) better: flip-flops, crony capitalism, would have voted for TARP, supports ethanol subsidies and, as recently as this summer, said he supported Federal mandates on purchasing health insurance (which he first did while lobbying for the healthcare industry) and a lover of wars, wars and more wars — oh, yes, and he believes in stripping Americans of their citizenship if they oppose the government.
In reading comments posted to neocon-supporting websites, the message seems to be, “Newt stinks, but anything is better than Obama.”
Such a meme proves the left/right paradigm remains firmly locked in place. George W. Bush was bad, Democrats love to say, because of the wars, bailouts and budget deficits. Obama is bad, Republicans love to say, because of the wars, bailouts and budget deficits. Gingrich will be better than Obama, Republicans say, because even though Gingrich supports wars and bailouts and budget deficits, his name is followed by an “R” rather than a “D.”
If you are truly a conservative, then Newt stinks — that is true — and so does Romney. But how does placing an “R” after a candidate’s name make the stink any more tolerable than the one we’re getting from the current “D” stinker? The only difference will be which group of corporatists get richer over the next four years. Fascism and tyranny will continue unabated, and government will continue to grow.

Perfected democrat commented:
Clarification of my earlier mistaken comment that there were no “indictments or convictions”, the following from a news source at the time:
“In a strongly worded report, special counsel James M. Cole concluded that Gingrich had violated tax law and lied to the investigating panel, but the subcommittee would not go that far. In exchange for the subcommittee agreeing to modify the charges against him, Gingrich agreed to the penalty Dec. 20 as part of a deal in which he admitted guilt.
Johnson called the reprimand and financial penalty “tough and unprecedented. It is also appropriate,” she said. “No one is above the rules of the House.”
The ethics committee that handled the charges against Gingrich went out of business at midnight last night without resolving complaints that the speaker received improper gifts, contributions and support from GOPAC, the political action committee he once headed. House Democrats are likely to submit those charges to the new ethics committee.
In addition, the Internal Revenue Service is looking into the use of tax-deductible charitable contributions to finance the college course Gingrich taught, which was at the center of the ethics case, and the ethics committee is making the material it gathered available to the tax agency.
At a closed-door meeting of House Republicans yesterday morning, the speaker noted his agreement to accept the sanction, which the ethics committee approved on a 7 to 1 vote Friday night, and said he wanted to get the matter behind him, according to lawmakers who attended.”
There needs to be a special prosecutor to investigate the wide ranging criminal political syndicate which the Democratic Party has become during the entire last decade.

keep telling you the “career” politicians on both sides of
the isle are in bed together, act 9, scene, 9 stage 9.. /s/
Democrats beat the market by 73 basis points per month, compared
to 18 for Republicans. That’s a rout anyway you look at it. Senators
fare even better than house members.

“I.R.S. Clears Foundation Linked to Gingrich’s Ethics Dispute
By DAVID E. ROSENBAUM
Published: February 04, 1999
In a case involving the ethics violations that led the House of Representatives to reprimand former Speaker Newt Gingrich in 1997, the Internal Revenue Service has cleared a private foundation close to Mr. Gingrich of breaking tax laws.
The I.R.S. ruling, in favor of the Progress and Freedom Foundation, does not directly exonerate Mr. Gingrich. But it suggests that he did not illegally use tax-exempt money for political purposes, one of the main accusations against him.”

oh yeah, nightmare about covers every aspect of what is happening to
US.. the saddest and most disturbing factor of all is, there’s no way we
can deny what is happening isn’t being done on purpose to save a few
political elite butts (in ratio to the world pop), not “we the people’s”..
now look at out next line of “choices” for president,
and tell me they weren’t chosen for US yet again??

I’m assuming Newt has dirt on her he can release? And how about getting the man who’s lying about his identity school records, and true birth records. Come on Newt, get them! We know he’s not who he says he is. Get him!

I’ve never been so pissed off at both Demon-rats and Re-public-cannots. They both suck.

Gee! and none of the media or democrats cared one iota about Obama, prior to his becoming president.
Now, the Queen of Mean is coming out to Destroy Gingrich. Aren’t the democrats kind and gentle people. The hate and the anger is eating them like cancer. Some day Pelosi will be out of Washington but I won’t hold my breathe. Seem Republicans just sit back and watch this nation falling apart piece by piece.
China is getting our technology and Iran is too. Boy is Iran. Suffering here at home and it seems that Princess Pelosi is gunning for Gingrich. Our leaders have made and Black Hole that is drawing everyone into it. The evil is spreading on a daily basis. So, have at Gingrich, take someone else apart like was done to Cain.
Until character and honor comes back, nothing will change.

Sorry I missed this interview – where Michelle Malkin takes command over Matt Lauer. I may have to get her book for Christmas “Culture of Corruption” – she exposes Mooch, too, calling her the First Crony:

She’s doing him a favor. Stop being so pathetic, as if you’d want a Republican to ignore getting the most they can out of oppo research. This is hardball.
Now he can ask himself if he’s really serious about this. Let’s face it, Newt’s run hasn’t always looked serious. None of us thought he’d be leading at this point. If he’s going to burn out, best to nip it in the bud now.
Noticing that Dems are rallying each other to quit attacking Newt and go after Romney. Don’t you see what’s going on here? Newt will get obliterated against Obama, and this canard that he’s such a great debater is based on him being combative and condescending.
He’s a loser, baby.
