It’s pretty sad when the communist Chinese will wish you a “Merry Christmas” but the American left won’t.
All over the city of Shenzhen, China this weekend I saw these “Merry Christmas” signs.

In a Shenzhen mall.

An entrance to a Shenzhen mall.

A store window in a Shenzhen mall.

A store window in Shenzhen, China.

There were Merry Christmas Santas.
Even the communists in China are not afraid to wish you Merry Christmas. Only the radicals in the US dread the words.

Many American businessmen operating in China will tell you that China has a better business climate and less onerous regulations than the US. I guess that it’s natural that people are now more free to speak their mind & witness religion in China than the pc tyranny the left is so successfuly with the aid of our praetorian guard media imposing on Americans.

I guess to the Left in this country the concept of diversity has its limitations, particularly if it involves the advocacy of a moral center of gravity.

Well all the crap that is sold in the malls is made in China.

Right now the American left is re-thinking their, “I wish we were more like China..” statements.

The radicals in the US don’t dread the 2 words, they dread the first 6 letters of the second word – for it reminds them that they are not the center of the universe.

There is a similar sensation in Japan: there is an abundance of ‘Merry Christmas’ signs.
However, it is more commercial than sincerely religious. Less than 1% of the population identifies as Christian. In fact, December 24th is the real focus, it’s considered a ‘Big Date’ night, with mostly romantic associations. You can go to the bank on Christmas Day in Japan.
As if to accentuate the point, the Christmas decorations magically vanish by the 25th, instantly replaced by the traditional Shinto New Year’s decorations.
All the same, as Jim noticed, it’s nice to see open respect for the tradition of Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all, Peter Warner (from Japan).

I work for a company that is in discussions to partner with a mainland Chinese company. We do not even do business with each other. My main English-speaking contact took the time to write out personal notes on each of 10 Chrismas cards they sent to everyone that has had the slightest contact with them. The cards are beautiful, 3 dimensional foil-on-paper cards, and I felt like Santa handing them out. When I thanked my contact, she said: “Everyone in China loves Christmas too!”
Meanwhile, if we get anything at all from companies we deal with in America, its an impersonal card along the lines of “To whoever you are, Have a Happy Day in December Holiday.”

70% prefer Merry Christmas over Happy Holidays on store signs.

If the liberals had any shame they would feel it after seeing all those merry Christmas signs in China but they will instead feel betrayed by their heroes.

When I was there in 2001, the street cleaning trucks played “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” to alert the bicyclists ahead of them.

We only get “happy holidays’ when we go to the mall because we sure as hell don’t want to offend anybody do we?
What a damn shame.

This is commerce, aimed at westerners, not Chinese advocacy of Christian holidays.
Looks like they suckered you in.

The Chi-Coms are smart enough to recognize Christmas as the capitalist cash cow it is. They aren’t smart enough to realize the stealth Christianity that sneaks in behind it.

To Old One and all those who think that this demonstrates a new openess in China, shouldn’t be so quick to judge. The Chinese have always tried to convince the west that they are not as portrayed. But I remember when a friend’s daughter went to Chinese with a Christian group a few years ago and was detained. True, it was a few years ago, but I don’t think the leopard has changes it’s spots.

Merry Christmas, you bunch of blind idiots!
– love, your Chinese overlords.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. There is no war on Christmas. Study history and you will see what a real war on Christmas is. Look to when it was banned here in the US. It wasn’t until the 1870 that it was actually allowed (in Boston) and then really took off in 1931. Fact is that we have a secular society and if people want to say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays then that is their choice. How can someone being polite for a holiday be turned into something so ridiculous. How can we demonize people saying something nice…really? This is from people that must have something to fight about regardless of whether its a valid fight or not. This comes from people intend on dividing American down the middle. The right and the left enjoy Christmas. Many on each side say Happy Holidays and many say Merry Christmas. Personally I don’t care which is said. Its a festival holiday time in America and if someone is being polite enough to say anything then I’m happy. The fact is that the constitution protects religious beliefs of all people and some belief, some don’t. Just because someone says Happy Holidays doesn’t mean they don’t believe in Jesus or that they are a god hating person. Happy Holidays covers all religions. Christmas is not a Christian Holiday and that is not conjecture, its fact. It is in fact a Pagen holiday that was usurped by Christians. I have no problem with a religion attaching meaning to a holiday, but to try and force everyone to believe the same thing is just wrong and not within our constitution. So Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or whatever you would like to hear during this festive time of year. Lighten up and enjoy your celebrations.

Even after 50 years of hard core COMMUNIST suppression there are 60 MILLION Chinese Christians in the PRC. Russia up until it’s collapse maintained the same anti-christian suppression. Nechiev may have urinated on the altar of the St Petersburg Cathedral on the moment of Revolutionary triumph but, the lamp of belief could not be extinguished….! ! ! And for those of you who DON”T know your history Nechiev was NOT a COMMUNIST he was an ANARCHIST who got “used” by the communists to achieve their success.
