The Portland Police Department is asking the public for information about the identity of the person involved in punching a police horse in the face during Thursday’s Occupy Portland riots. During the violence that day a protester struck a police horse in the face.
The Porland police released this video:
(The horse is punched at the 37 second mark)

The Portland Police Department released this statement on Thursday’s attacks:

This information is in regard to a specific confrontation that occurred during the 12-hour N17 protest that occurred on Thursday, November 17, 2011. Around 4:30 p.m., Portland Police Officers were attempting to remove people from Southwest Yamhill Street so that vehicular traffic and light-rail traffic could resume. Many people were in the street in what was a very dangerous situation.

At the same time, officers were also preventing any additional people from entering the Chase Bank, located on the corner of 6th and Yamhill. Police were inside the bank arresting individuals who had entered the bank to protest.

Police made repeated loud-hail commands and officers on the ground reiterated those commands for people to clear the street and leave the area. A confrontation occurred between a group of protestors who would not disperse. Projectiles were thrown at police and an unidentified man struck a police horse…

…The Bureau is also releasing a video of the horse being struck. Anyone with information about the identity of the person involved in this incident should call Central Precinct at (503) 823-0097.

  1. PETA? Hello? Are you there? No public outcry will occur because just like

when Sarah Palin was called a wh*re, the feminists were silent

or when Condi Rice was called a house nig*er, those that use the race card and cry racist were silent, so will be this situation.

  2. Looks like Mongo got out of prison again!

  3. The Occupoopers:

    Abuse animals. Where’s PETA?
    Sexually assault women. Where’s NOW?
Sexually assault men. Where is the powerful gay Lobby?
Stalk little children. Where’s the Children’s Defense Fund?
Leave their body wastes all over the landscape. Where are the environmentalists?

  4. Where is PETA ?

Where are the unions supporting the police officers who are being attcked and threatened with their lives…these are fellow union members..

Just sjhows Libs and dems hate the police, hate law and order and hate America. They hate jobs and hate the american workers who cant get to work, cant get to their homes from work and cant do it safely.

Liberals are anarchists and hate America is the lesson

  5. What an idiot! Cops used to have horses that would bite a hunk out of you if you messed with them.

  6. The officer should have turned the horse around and said kick girl KICK!!!!!

I hope someone has the ball$ to come forward to tell who the worthless POS is.

  7. Since the whole point of these protests is to provoke a confrontation with the Police, it seems kinda silly to give the protesters what they want.

Rather than confronting this willful two year old arrested development children, just put up a buffer zone between the general public and the protesters. Let the protesters sit in the street for as long as they wish, and divert the general public around the protest area.

  8. A little pepper spray please. Actually a lot.

  9. What sorry asshats these people are, these peace loving morons.

PETA hello, PBA HELLO! The horses are officers too…

  10. Where’s PETA?

I would love for these people to get wind of this.

    http://www.asha.net/

    American Saddle bred Association

And I would love for protester to get punched in the face.

  11. The horse is a saint! Having owned many horses/ponies over the years…that &$#! would have been the recipient of either a good BITE or KICK from any of mine!
Hats off to the excellent training Portland PD has given those wonderful equines.
    My blood is boiling.

  12. It starts with abuse of an animal, then Jeffery Dahmer. These occupiers are a depiction of a broader problem.

This is an true depiction of just how many mentally disturbed there are in this movement.

Where do you think they are? Hospitals, under bridges, in boxes on hobo row, where?

Right in front of us. That’s where.

  13. The cop should have laid his nightstick across that a$$holes haid, and let the horse trample him just a little while he was down.

  14. They pulled this stunt during the 2004 Republican Convention in NYC – rolled cherry bombs under the horses to make them rear and unseat their riders. Watched it all in utter shock then, now I just want to …..

  15. Quan Williams just said people sympathize with the occu-squatters.

Democrat Chris Wallace told him he is full of shiite.

Poor horse – kill the culprit who did it.

I can’t bear to watch the video.

I hope the horse is okay.

  16. PETA? Hello? Are you there?

    #1 nailed it. Very nice.

  17. Like capitalism is the horse’s fault. Good thinking there.

Cops can’t do that, remember Reynolds, Cop could be sued for abuse. So, their defense is first pepper spray or taser, then in life or death situation their night stick or gun. PC WORLD REMEMBER LIBERALS HAVE HANDCUFFED COPS.

  19. I can’t figure out why horses are used for crowd control. Its cruel for the horses and difficult for mounted officers to do anything. They need to bring out the K9 unit for stuff like this. Those dogs will have the time of their life with these squatting sissies.

  20. The added height and visibility that the horses give their riders works both ways, he noted: it allows officers to see what is going on in a wider area, but it also allows people in that wider area to see the officers. That helps deter crime, and it also helps people find officers when they need them, as happened last May, when two street vendors in Times Square sought help after they saw smoke rising from what turned out to be a crude car bomb. “They looked around, and the first thing they saw of anyone in authority was two mounted police officers, who responded and cleared the area of bystanders before the bomb squad arrived,” Mr. Browne said.

  21. Anyone around the Portland area needs to support the Police, who are already very irritated with Mayor Sam Adams. Write letters to them of strong support and to Sam Adams, who is also the Police Commissioner, against. Good luck with the Newspapers! Maybe include some subtle hints about “getting more prepared” in the face of the threat the Occupiers are implying and already constitute and in reference to the Public’s individual rights under the Constitution.

I gave up on the Oregon U.S. Senators after Obamacare was passed, but maybe it’s time to go after them again. I’m not close enough to Portland to count there. But if the supporters of these Occupying growths show up where I live, it’s going to be no contest, just as it has been on other issues.

  22. When I tweeted this, one person responded:

@DMartyr @mindofH Abusing horses is asking such majestic animal to suppress peace.

So, see? It wasn’t the protester’s fault, it was the fault of the police. The protester was provoked and reacting to the police abuse of the horse.

  23. During this confrontation, police deployed pepper spray on 20-year-old Elizabeth Evon Nichols. Nichols had been told by police repeatedly to disperse. Immediately following the pepper spray, officers applied water to Nichols’ face. She was then arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Interfering with a Police Officer.

Nichols was also arrested by the Federal Protective Service (FPS) previously on Sunday November 13, after police removed her from a cement block in which she was chained during the clearing of Terry Schrunk Plaza.

The Police Bureau is releasing a police video that contains this incident in an effort to remain transparent to the community. The Bureau is also releasing a video of the horse being struck. Anyone with information about the identity of the person involved in this incident should call Central Precinct at (503) 823-0097.

  24. Why didn’t the cop sabre him down? Or at least club him with a nightstick?

  25. Only in the liberals world can cries of “kill the pigs” and “we must spend more to support our brave police” be used to energize the exact same people. They are far too enamored with the destructive strategy of lighting a fire then taking control of everything in the name of fighting their own fire then complaining about the fire they “inherited” as it just gets bigger and bigger. Clinical insanity writ on a national scale.

  26. #’s 16, 18 & 27 – you are right on. I would have laid that sucker out cold if he had hit my horse – it would be self-defense at that point, eh? — that police officer showed remarkable restraint.

  27. In North Carolina, if you strike a police horse while an officer is on it, you are assaulting a police officer.

  28. wow, you’re all pretty hardcore and badass calling for a bunch of guys in full body armor and with the legal monopoly of the use of physical violence to batter, bully, beat, stab, and/or shoot a guy who struck a horse.

i’m pretty sure that with a few clicks, i could find a half dozen stories and at least one video of cops in various scenarios straight up SHOOTING DOGS IN THE FACE. caged dogs. or dogs who were running at them before they were fully out of their car (when it would’ve been easy to get back in, rather than shooting). hell, i could find you a story of a cop who tossed a flashbang grenade through the window of a house that had toys strewn all over the front yard (hint: that means children probably live there), burning a little black preteen girl over her body, then the cop busting in the door, firing off a round, and killing her.

are you all such hardcore law and order types that you want COPS who slap someone, or mace them, or taze them, or shoot them at point blank range while they’re handcuffed on the ground, or beat them into a coma, or burn them alive to be slapped and stabbed and shot in retaliation? i’m guessing no. so why for this guy? i mean, aside from the fact that it was kind of a d*ck move on his part.

ohhh, right, because protesters are dirty smelly hippies and cops are noble upstanding heroes who just happen to periodically mace a crowd of women barricaded behind police tape for no reason. i’m sure you’re call for a “full investigation” and for “disciplinary action up to termination” for a cop who murdered a little black girl by burning her alive. but you want to STAB a guy who slapped a horse.

    wow.

  29. AMurdoch:
Among the folks I run with, punching a horse can get you buffaloed right quick. You probably don’t know what the term buffaloed means, do you? Its a smart rap on both sides of your head with the barrel of a revolver, preferably a 7 1/2″ Colt Army .45. Punching the wrong person’s horse might even get you shot. It’s just not done. As for cops misbehaving; I won’t deny it happens, but It’s no excuse to punch out a horse.

  30. Must have thought it was his mother coming to take him back to the basement. “Bad boy. No cookies for you!”

  31. #32 November 20, 2011 at 1:49 pm – AMurdoch

    whine and snivel you much

  32. Hey, amurdoch, how much is mediamatters paying you today to harrass us? Or does Uncle george soros pay you directly? Get lost….I heard your village is missing it’s idiot….run along now…..they’re worried about you.

  33. hey A murdoch,

do you know how to stick to the subject in hand? I thought not. Once again you raise things that are not relevant.

In this case the Occubaggers really are nothing more than dirty smelly individuals who are violent to boot. On top of that they are Anarchists.

Please inform George that you failed to get your insipid message across.

  34. Patty @10:39 — punch the puncher in the face? Hardly — how about a nice swift kick in the balls, with enough power to end his procreative function for good.

Hit another human, and that’s one thing. Hit an innocent animal and I have no mercy whatsoever — especially if it’s a horse. Low-life p’s of sh*t need to be taught a lesson. Good thing I wasn’t there!

  35. Portland PD Releases Video of #Occupy Protester Punching Police Horse in the Face

I would have laughed if the horse turned around and kicked the guy so hard he flew through the air to the other side of the street.

  36. AMurdoch isn’t a Soros shill anymore than you guys are Koch shills. He’s a pacifist against ALL forms of coercive force by government.

  37. Amurdoch, who’s stopping you from linking some of that video? We’re waiting.

  38. The horses are used as a show of force because of their size and a reliable platform for the officer to have situational awareness over a larger area. It shows remarkable restraint on the officers behalf that this SOB didnt skull dragged down the street for his stupidity. Im sure there are some legitimat claims by these people but the very fact that they are acting like animals make any of their claims go the wayside as normal people are focusing on their stupidity. I am in afghanistan serving as an infantryman and it makes me sick to think of what these ZOMBIES are doing to my country. Burning flags, crapping on police cars and in churches…Line the horses up for a full scale Medieval charge and run these sick bastards into the ground where they belong. Then deport their un american asses over here and see how far they will get.

    Skandia Recluse commented:

The police were not confronting the protesters. I watched a longer clip, the police were trying to clear the streets for vehicle traffic including light rail. The police were not moving them from the sidewalks.

The problem I have with these protesters is that they are attempting to bully the 99%, not represent them. What right do they have to block traffic, it is unsafe and violates the rights of others. The OWS crowd seems to think the right to free speech = the right to make me listen by blocking my way to work, taking exclusive use of public parks, and trespassing on private property. OWS has the right to free speech, but the rest of us have the right to ignore them if we so choose. Sooner or later they are going to block the wrong car, personally there are some areas that unless it is a small child I will not stop my car if someone jumps in front of it. Downtown Oakland is one of those neighborhoods. I don’t want to hurt anyone, but the people violating the traffic laws take their chances, I won’t take the chance that they will car jack or beat me if I stop.

  40. A follow up from a friend who was an eye witness to this:

That happened here in Chicago at Daley Plaze at a counterprotest. Jessie Jackson was speaking, we were across the street shouting him down. There was a line of cops in the middle of the street between us. There were also some mounted police. Some moron walked up to one of the horses and just petted him a couple of times. Then out of the blue he hauled off and gave it a right cross. And I mean HARD. There must have been at least a dozen cops bury him. I also know I saw a couple of punches thrown in his direction at the bottom of the pile. We talked to one of the cops after it was all over and he said they were charging him with felony assault on a police officer. You don’t mess with police dogs or horses. They’re treated the same as the human officers.

  41. wow, ant, how nice of you to take me up on the offer:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eyF8__fR8PQ

    yay, heroes!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FFlWGeb_aw

    another puppycide

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXOD7p2k_dc&feature=watch_response

ohhhh, well this one DID seem pretty vicious with all that “standing still” and “calming laying on the ground”. i can see how someone would fear for their safety. especially someone who was a big, fat, pathetic coward with a god complex.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv0T2X1dXcI

and another brave execution by your favorite wonderful heroes. i’m sure you guys will especially love the screams and wails of the family who just watched that brave hero “protect and serve” them. if you need a moment alone with some jergins and kleenex while you hear the shrieks of the loving owners of the dog, i’ll understand.

i especially want to applaud these brave, heroic, upstanding protectors of the public weal for making a point to shoot these dogs IN FRONT OF CHILDREN. that way, the kids can grow up knowing firsthand how power and a sense of entitlement turns otherwise decent people into sick, evil, bloodless killers.

oh, and don’t forget to listen to the story of poor Aiyana Stanley-Jones:

    http://antiwar.com/radio/2010/05/20/will-grigg-13/

“Will Grigg, author of Liberty in Eclipse, discusses the police killing of seven year old Aiyana Stanley-Jones in Michigan, how the presence of a “First 48″ A&E Network film crew influenced police tactics and priorities, why the media has a statist (not liberal or conservative) bias and how military rules of engagement in Afghanistan are more strict than those governing SWAT raids in the US.”

but of course, that’s just the murder of an innocent little black girl. and the above links are videos of dogs which were owned by civilians. sure, those are sad, but let’s save our REAL outrage for someone hitting police horse, because when apportioning your rage, it’s good to have priorities.

you know, i tend to agree with conservative and libertarian commentators who point out that the mainstream left has a hand-on for obama that borders on creepy cult worship, but it seems like plenty of you have the same fetish, only instead of a political god-king, you get all hot under the collar for a uniform and the authority to hurt, kill, and steal from people in the name of The State.

  42. *hard-on, not “hand-on”. apologies.
