Occupy Portland Protesters Prepare Weapons – Expect Over 100 Reinforcements for Confrontation With Police

The Occupy Portland protesters are expecting from 100 to 300 reinforcements for the upcoming confrontation with police. There are also reports that the leftwing activists are preparing weapons for the conflict.
The Portland Police reported:
On Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Mayor Sam Adams indicated that the “balance has tipped” at Occupy Portland and that the parks will be temporarily closed for maintenance beginning Sunday November 13, 2011 at 12:01 a.m.
Since that announcement Portland Police have become aware of information that is concerning. We understand a call has gone out to Oakland, Seattle and San Francisco and perhaps other cities encouraging people to come to Portland and engage in resistance. People in the camp are expecting 100-300 re-enforcements from various locations. There may even be as many as 150 anarchists who will arrive soon. There is information that people may be in the in trees during a police action and that there are people who are attempting to obtain a large number of gas masks.
There is a hole being dug in one of the parks and wood is being used to reinforce the area around it. There are reports that nails have been hammered into wood for weapons and that generally there are people in the camps preparing for a confrontation with police.
Last night Portland Police officers provided security while Portland Parks and Recreation security manager posted “No Camping” signs in the park. 36 signs were posted in all, although some were taken down by the occupiers almost immediately.
People were seen carrying pallets into the camp shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning. The destination of the pallets is a structure with graffiti in the northwest part of Chapman Park, also known as “The 420 Hotel”. The people there are very suspicious of any passers by, we are not sure at this point what exactly they are doing. We have been told it looks like they were making shields.

Cars Burned and Jewish Neighborhood Attacked in New York Hate Crime
Cars have been torched, anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled on sidewalks and “KKK” tagged on a van in an attack on a heavily Jewish neighborhood in New York, on the anniversary of an infamous Nazi attack on Europe’s Jews.

“The burning of cars and vandalism of benches in Midwood this morning represents a truly hateful act of prejudice,” Public Advocate Bill de Blasio said.
Councilman David Greenfield offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shocking incident.

Elissa Barrett, chief of regional operations for the JFFJ and its partner, the Progressive Jewish Alliance, explained how a sukkah espouses Occupy ideals.

I was just watching 1am central, 11pm pacific, one of the speakers said, “when they come to end our protest, we say, ‘hell no, we won’t go’”
They chanted ‘hell no, we won’t go’ for about a solid minute.
They were just teaching the people to resist arrest by telling them to lock arms, and not be cooperative with the police.

Been watching live feed and media coverage all night. Everytime a protestor began to agitate the police or talk violently, the majority who insisted on peace isolated them. This was incredible. There is a large range of people here. Don’t believe it’s all progressives, hippies, and socialists. The truth is that most of us agree some main issues. Most of us see the scandal of the bail-outs and pay-outs to corrupt institutions. Most of us understand that burden rests on the backs of the tax payer. I went down to the occupy Portland circus Friday afternoon and again about 9:00 pm last night. The Friday excursion left me a little worried about violence, especially in Lownsdale Square (where I actually saw some club making acitivities by clearly drug addled idiots). How a female would feel safe in that environment is beyond me.
It started raining very heavily around 4:00 pm on Friday and did not let up until the morning. The rain was accompanied by gust fronts and cold. This was really the first hard rain/cold that would have challenged the tent/tarp city enclave in the parks. By the time I went down last night, the parks were a mosh pit. Most of the tents used by the occupiers were of the cheap summer variety; totally unsuited for the rain forest that is Portland Oregon. A lot of the tens had simply been abandoned. I imagine that everything the occupiers own was soaked.
A good portion of the tents had been removed by last night and I am of the opinion it was because of the adverse weather and the muddy conditions under the tents.
The police also set up large generator operated flood lights at the corners and midsections of the blocks, with the light directed into the camp. It was actually brighter than day light and without the shadows, given the 360 degree placement of the lights. The lighting prevented any concealment of weapons and allowed the police to see any congregation of people. The lights would also have been something more than an inconvenience to anyone thinking of getting some shut eye. The uniformed officers stayed on the edge of the camp, however, there were no doubt numerous undercovers in the parks.
With more adverse weather coming, I am thinking that the police will just let the movement peter out due to cold and moisture.
