Sheriff Babeu said the program was deliberate on behalf of the government to infringe upon our Second Amendment rights.
KVOA reported:
Sheriffs from across Arizona gathered in Phoenix Friday demanding a special counsel investigate Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice for their roles in “Operation Fast and Furious.”
The operation managed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is believed to have allowed approximately 2,000 weapons into Mexico and into the hands of drug cartels.
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu led the news conference and said the operation was a scandal worse than Watergate. Sheriff Babeu said he believes Attorney General Eric Holder should resign or be fired.
Many of the sheriffs said they were shocked and surprised when they learned of the operation.
La Paz County Sheriff Dan Lowry said ATF’s role in the operation was dishonor and betrayal.
The sheriffs also discussed Operation Wide Receiver in Tucson, a similar incident believed to have occurred during the Bush Administration.
Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever said, “It doesn’t matter when it happened, it was wrong.”
Meanwhile, Attorney General Eric Holder continued to deny that he knew previously about the Fast and Furious scandal despite the fact that he received at least 5 emails on the program.
