The three US hikers who were released by the Iranian regime spoke today at the Occupy Oakland protest.
ABC Local reported:
NBC Bay Area reported:
The Iran hikers chose the city of Oakland and the Occupy movement as the backdrop for a rare public appearance Monday.
Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal took part in the an Occupy Oakland rally at Frank Ogawa plaza. They said they wanted to show their support to the movement taking place in their town.
Up until now Occupy rallies have been mostly economic protests, but the hikers appearance took a turn toward the political. The hikers said they also felt a solidarity with hunger strike going on now in California prisons.
This is only their second public appearance since returning home to the United States after being freed from prison in Iran. They were arrested in July 2009 after Iran said they crossed over its border during a hike in northern Iraq. Shourd was released in Sept. 2010. Bauer and Fattal were released last month.
All three graduated from University of California at Berkeley and Shourd has been living in Oakland since her release.
The hikers recently thanked Cindy Sheehan and Sean Penn for their release.

Iran did us no favor in “giving” these knuckleheads back to us.
A little application of the ol’ Sharia would have straightened these three traitors right out. Learning about Islam – up close and personal – acts as a wonderful teacher.

They should have stayed in Iran …

No one sane goes hiking in a war zone. Who paid their ransom? These idiots are just useful idiots. Maybe they should be in Canada, Cuba, or North Korea. But Oakland or Berkley is close enough.

We must never forget now many liberal people there are here in America today who hate this country. In 2012, we need to vote the liberal socialists out of power and then we must never become complacent. These uber-left socialists have no goal other then to re-make the USA as a socialist nation.
They seem to be totally in denial about how socialism has never worked anywhere on this planet. They have no idea that under socialism, there are things they won’t like that are far worse then the things we all have to deal with under capitalism. They totally fail to acknowledge how Europe is going down the tubes because of socialist entitlement programs
Never, never, never forget about these people. We cannot possibly live side by side with them. We must defeat them electorally and then continue to marginalize them for the rest of our lives.

#14 Ipso Facto,
I’ve convinced myself that there has to be a 40 year plan to roll back all the Communist 45 Declared Goals to take over America. And that’s what the “Occupy Movement” is, part of the Communist trying to finish off our country.

Please carefully read the following goals that Communist have succeeded in,
#11, #12, #13
#15 through #32
#34 through #42
and #44

[[Occupy Wall Street protesters said yesterday that packs of brazen crooks within their ranks have been robbing their fellow demonstrators blind, making off with pricey cameras, phones and laptops -- and even a hefty bundle of donated cash and food.
“Stealing is our biggest problem at the moment,” said Nan Terrie, 18, a kitchen and legal-team volunteer from Fort Lauderdale. “I had my Mac stolen -- that was like $5,500. Every night, something else is gone. Last night, our entire [kitchen] budget for the day was stolen, so the first thing I had to do was . . . get the message out to our supporters that we needed food!”]] imagine that!!!

As all good liberals agree, the hateful evil America needs to be more like poor innocent Iran. So, the first thing we should do to be more like poor innocent Iran is label these three idiots as spies, lock them up in isolation, and throw away the key. Anyone else who complains about it will be locked up too. Hey, I’m not hating on them, just following the guidance of the wise enlightened nation of Iran. I’m sure all liberals must agree that this is what we must do.

Actually, if you make common cause with the Liberals, you win, come 2012. The Democratic Party at the national level has gone to great lengths to throw out its Liberals. Remember Joe Lieberman, former vice presidential candidate? He had to run as an independent, because the radicals in the party threw him out. The Democratic voters, on the other hand, put him back in, because they didn’t think so highly of the radical candidates.
Real Liberals want policies that work. Real Liberals believe that individual people are perfectly capable of managing their own lives, and do not need some indifferent government bureaucrat many miles making personal decisions for them. They are your natural allies, and they do exist. They are part of the reason why the TEA Parties have such traction.
Obama Nation commented:
I am seeing a lot of Occupy Wall Street Videos that feature disgruntled college graduates who are deeply in debt with their student loans.
Most of them either unemployed or underemployed and they are advocating in favor of not having to pay back their student loans.
It’s not that I don’t think they have a legitimate beef. I think they have a right to expect that a 100k education should prepare them some type of career. It’s just that I think their anger is misdirected.
I believe there are several factors at work here which are contributing to their present situation. One of the major factors in my opinion is that a college education simply is not that golden ticket to success that is used to be.
Why is this? It’s because before student loans and the GI Bill, college graduates use to be a rare commodity. Now college graduates are a dime a dozen, nothing special really. Remember Econ 101? When supply goes up, demand goes down.
Sadly our society still operates under the mistaken belief that a college education is a guarantee of success, and that it’s a must for everybody.
Sadly, we have been brainwashed to believe that a college degree has a lot more worth than it actually has in the employment market.
To make matters worse, this belief that everyone should go to college has made many High Schools abandon their efforts at vocational training.
Another important factor, and one that needs to consider before incurring a lot of debt, is the marketability of your college major.
One really has to ask oneself before investing 100K, is there really a strong enough demand for people with my major to risk going so deeply into debt?
If the answer to that question is no, you might want to invest your 100k into a condo or cheap house and apply for an entry level job instead.
Sure college grads may have lower rate of unemployment than HS Grads, but many of us still have to take jobs that don’t require a college degree. I speak from experience. It’s just that as college grads we are somewhat more likely to be chosen for an interview. Whoopee!
The people who are really making out like bandits from this fixation on college as the key to success are the Colleges and Universities themselves. They are making a killing on our refusal to revise our antiquated notions.
Instead of protesting Wall Street and issuing a demand for the banks to forgive our debts, maybe we should be protesting the Marxist Professors who indoctrinated us instead of preparing us for the harsh realities of the real world.
I don’t know what the Occupational Outlook is for Community Organizers, but I doubt it will be enough make much of a dent in the current unemployment figures.
If anyone is to be held accountable, perhaps it is the colleges who are at fault for promoting a mythical path to success. Maybe we should demand a refund from these institutions of higher learning. Or at the very least, maybe they should be creating jobs for all their unemployed alumni.
Jackson commented:
They should have left them over there to rot.
