Obama DOJ Takes Action… Moves in to Protect Teachers With Unacceptable English Skills

It’s an Obama World…
The Obama Department of Justice moved in this week to protect teachers with unacceptable English skills.
Judicial Watch reported:

Public school teachers with unacceptable English pronunciation and grammar are being protected by the Obama Administration, which has forced one state to eliminate a fluency monitoring program created to comply with a 2002 federal education law.

Singling out teachers who can’t speak proper English in American schools—funded by taxpayers, no less—discriminates against Hispanics and others who are not native English speakers, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). As a result it violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the teachers must remain in their current position.

Unbelievable as this may seem, it’s a true story reported this week by Arizona’s largest newspaper. Ironically, the state launched the fluency monitoring program to comply with the bipartisan-backed No Child Left Behind Act, which requires states to create standardized tests that show public school students are reaching proficiency in core subjects like English, math and science.

With only a small proportion of low-English proficiency students (reading between the lines they are referring to illegal immigrants) passing the state’s standardized reading test, Arizona education officials started to look at the teachers in those classrooms. They found a common thread in dozens of districts throughout the state; many instructors don’t speak proper English and, in fact, teach in Spanish, using Spanish-language materials. Some have “unacceptably heavy accents” that causes them to mispronounce words. Others use poor English grammar.

Here are some examples of state monitoring reports listed in the article; a teacher who asked her English learners “How do we call it in English?” and teachers who pronounced “levels” as “lebels” and “much” as “mush.” Last year a monitor documented teachers who pronounced “the” as “da” and “lives here” as “leeves here.”

Protected by the power of their union, no teachers have been fired for fluency issues.

And you wonder why the national SAT scores are on the decline?

I have no problem with accents what soever, but for the love of God, if you’re a teacher, speak grammatically!

Don’t you people know? It is a crime to teach slaves to read and write.

Has been since Democrats were the slaveowners of pre-Civil War times.

Not much has changed since the cotton fields.

The Democrats, thanks to the NEA, they OWN the de-educating schools.

All that matters is creating reliable Democrat Voters.

Voting “Democrat” has only replaced picking cotton.

    Nothing else has changed.

I guess the students do not need to worry about those call center jobs going over seas.

Truthfully, there is nothing funny about this story.

How sad that this children are being deprived of a quality education. This is what Progressives want, just as Wright taught in his Black Liberation church. They want to end the middle class and create a huge lower class with no skills, thereby creating a class dependent on them. It is disgusting, and Progressives are beneath contempt.

I live in Arizona and have been a technical writer for over 20 years. I have a degree in English Literature and a minor in Education from the University of Illinois, conferred in 1976. In addition, I taught in technical schools for about 2 and a half years. I cannot teach English in Arizona without returning to school for another year or two.

And people wonder why the kids can’t read or write. They want to keep these kids stupid because they are the next generation of the Democrat Party. This is a prime example of why the government has no business in education or for that matter into the every day lives of the American people. It’s bad enough when the Republicans do it but it’s a disaster when the Democrats get involved.

I was taught English and it was one of my favorite subjects. There are those in the media that have said minor things, incorrectly. Now, that said, I can see everyone correcting me, ha, ha!

But seriously, the United States should be ashamed of it’s teaching skills. The Webster’s Dictionary has added some slang, as of late. It is nuts. But this is a whole new generation.

And when inspections of schools take place, you know someone hired these people. They had to have know their English was less than perfect. Question, why were they hired. Who reviews these hires? Those who do the interview should also be investigated for a lack of common sense.

Parents should be aware of their child’s teachers. When enough parents get involved they can and will move mountains.

How about simply deporting the illegals that need to be spoken to in their native language and you can let the crappy ones go. Problem solved

Give illegals 60 days to pack up and leave on their own with opportunity to get back in line

After 60 days fine any employer $10,000 for each illegal and give $5000 to the person who turns them in and The Big Govt can keep $5000 to deport them.

Ban any and all social welfare $$$$ for illegals.

Any caught after 60 days will never be allowed back into this country EVER for ANYTHING.

I would have immigration solved in 60 days.

Oh dont forget to Put / Train the Military on the border for possible middle east war !

I had a college algebra teacher that had the heaviest chinese accent. It was really hard to understand him,but the funny thing was that I did great in his class. I think I had to focus so hard on what he was saying that I learned what he was trying to teach. Fortunately for him math is a language everyone can speak. When it comes to everything else you have to be able to communicate with the students in a precise manor.
The feds have no business interfering in the state schools. This is a local problem that should be dealt with as such. Most of a schools money comes from the local and state budgets. They should have the say in who teaches and what is taught.

Well, Digg, I think I had that Chinese Algebra teacher too. You probably didn’t see me and everyone else behind you flipping madly through our books, looking at each other and mouthing “what did he say?”. I’m pretty good at understanding accents, too, but his was just too much. I could only get a C in that class.

As a nurse, we experience this first hand in hospitals with foreign doctors who can’t speak English well enough for patients and hospital personnel to understand. Who do you think has the problem here and needs to show greater understanding.? You guessed it. The patients and nurses and doctors who are Americans. A patient was told by foreign doctor it was her fault she coudn’t understand him; it was because she “was not educated”. I has one doctor yell at me because I kept asking him to repeat what he said. Now imagine a young child trying to understand what the teacher is saying but may be afraid to ask the teacher to repeat it. This is very bad. Once again, the children come out on the losing end to protect teachers.

Accent shouldn’t be an issue as long as the teacher is not teaching English. Speaking proper English that’s a different issue.

MY CONCERN IS FOR THE CHILDREN. THEY GO TO SCHOOL TO GET AN EDUCATION. IF THEY CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE TEACHER IS SAYING, HOW CAN THEY LEARN? THIS SOUNDS LIKE BHO IS ONLY THINKING OF THE TEACHERS UNION, NOT THE CHILDREN. THIS IS A TERRIBLE DECISION. HOW CAN IT BE REVERSED?

I keep waiting for the EEOC to mandate the hiring of blind airline pilots. Yes I know its rediculous, but every time I say to myself, “no they would never approve that”, they prove me wrong. Face it folks, the Federal Government is rapidly descending into insanity. And if you want to see what insanity really looks like, watch what’s going on in Great, (or not so great) Britain.
