Thomas Friedman: ‘Way Too Soon to Tell if Media Blew it Vetting Obama the Candidate”

You can’t say we didn’t warn you.
Obama is in worse trouble than we thought.
Even hardcore leftist Thomas Friedman of the New York Times is wondering if the media blew it in vetting Obama the candidate.

Obama was vetted? When?

The Daily Caller reported:

During the 2008 presidential election season, many Americans were captivated by then-candidate Barack Obama’s promises of hope and change. And some would argue that much of the media were taken in by the promises too. Nearly three years into the Obama presidency, is it fair to say the media were duped?

On Sunday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” host Howard Kurtz asked New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman just that question. According to Friedman, the jury is still out.

“Way too soon to tell that kind of thing, I think,” Friedman said. “I think if — look, what have I been calling for, you know, the president to have — I think there is, we just so desperately needed a grand bargain that involves restructuring of debt, raising of taxes, cutting of spending and investing in the sources of our strengths as a country from everything from infrastructure to government-funded research to education. It’s so clear that’s what we need. My personal frustration with Obama has been that while he certainly tried that grand bargain for a little bit, it just kind of went away. Well, it didn’t on the work. He said [House Speaker John] Boehner backed out. I don’t know who backed out.”

  • StrangernFiction

The most insane statement in this video doesn’t come from Friedman, it comes from Kurtz:

“his critics would say he’s too much of a compromiser”

  • Island Girl

these failed pundits make voodoo look fair & reasonable.

  • dwd

Um, the media should do such a good job vetting ANY presidential candidate that there should NEVER even BE a question of whether the media blew it!

When you do your very best, you know it. Even acknowledging the possibility that the media could have blown it admits that the media didn’t do its job.

Do it right the first time, do it well, do it thoroughly, double and triple check it. That should apply to everything done by anyone anywhere, but especially the vetting of a presidential candidate.

  • Sorry to Live in Illinois

We know more about any of the Palin children then we do about Barack Obama.

  • Rock

Their only complaining that Obama is not as radically Left as they had hoped. Message here is Soros is telling WTF via the media he expects more and stop living life large on his dime. We are still screwed, they fully intend to take the country down the path of Socialism, or get someone in the White House who can.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

According to Friedman, the jury is still out.

Can someone please forcibly tattoo the letters I-D-I-O-T across Friedman’s forehead?

  • MJ

The ‘birthers’ were thought of as nuts.
Well, these pigs got what they deserve.
Ann Coulter, also made fun of ‘birthers’, recently said that the MSM didnt vet Obama.
Thats because people were too busy worrying about being called racists, instead of being moral and ethical.

  • Leatherhelmet

C’mon Thomas. Seriously, the guy was put into office while the media carried him on their shoulders cheering the whole time. There is no way Friedman is being honest.

  • MrGoodWench

    Obama was vetted? When?
    You don’t remember ?×421.jpg
    He was wetted alright !

  • rbosque

So this asswipe just woke up from a coma?

He’s only now figuring out what most of us knew before the election?

  • raybojabo

I think all of this talk about Odumbo not being vetted started with Sarah Palin’s comment that the press is being so hard on republican candidates now because they did not want to repeat the mistake they made by not properly vetting Odumbo wich resulted in electing an incompetant president. Of course she knows as well as us that they did it on purpose but she put it into a context that made them accountable for their actions. She is a psy-ops genious.

First of all, Friedman needs to learn correct English or this is con talk for “we will tweak the numbers and pull the wool over” Please, I smell some really bad stink going on. Con us once shame on you, con us twice and brother investigate these whack jobs quick.

Economy isn’t going to recover in time for Obama but that said, Obama is over! We knew he was incompetent it took those so called intelligent and those incapable of a thought of their own 3 years to figure it out.

They can try to vet Obama but he has hurt the U.S. and the damage he has done will take a real experience person in the White House to correct.

From the military cuts to job cuts, from 2 trillion in spending and nothing to show for it, Geesh, vet give us a break.

Thats why he is a Nobel Prize winner and we are not

  • USMC Thomas

The media’s vetting of SØBama is treasonous at best, especially considering the resources the Washington Post and the New York Times used to vet Sarah Palin’s e-mail over 2 years later.
Thomas Friedman is a piece of excrement.

  • spike

Where were the (so called)conservitive media during the vetting proccess of wtf? They didn’t do their job either. They were right there with the lefties checking to see if Palin might have a run in her stocking or checking to see if her fingernails were painted properly, looking down their noses with disdain.

  • Rose

Sad to witness the effects of Friedman’s mother’s total lack of Folic Acid during her pregnancy.

  • Rose

#16, Spike – oh THAT was a good book! LOL!

Anyway – ALL you said about the Media, Left AND RIGHT is Dead True – same for the RNC.

NO WAY to look to THEM for Statesmanship or Leadership.

I dont think they even read Obama’s books he wrote….well kinda wrote

  • Arch

These bozos were part of the conspiracy to get Obama elected. Now they discover that their agenda is so unpopular with the public that it is, as I have been saying for two years, going to cost the democrats the senate and the oval office.

Worry when journalists begin interviewing each other, saying “Everyone knows….”

  • Gimme a Break, I’m just a Hobbit

Of course the media didn’t vet Obama. The MSM sent an army of reporters were up in Alaska digging through Palin’s trash (and some of them are still up there digging). They didn’t have the time or people to look into Obama’s questionable background.

  • squeaky

tom brokaw and charlie rose just before the 2008 election.

  • Crackermike

Hey Friedman, it’s also too soon to say the Soviet Union didn’t work out. And slavery and Prohibition too! You Effin’ moron.

  • daryl

Those two should have made Matthews obama love fest Sunday show. Whole slew of them on there wondering why obama can’t get anything done, pissing and moaning, and gnashing of teeth over it with basically the same talking points.

  • Hedgehog

The media did not “blow it”, they were not duped. They were complicit and without their complicity Obama would not have made it past the primaries. They know it and now they are afraid of the “blowback”, after which their cushy sinecures and media outlets will be relegated to the obscurity that they so richly deserve. Goodbye to all of you and good riddance.

  • mg4us

The MSM and NYT didn’t make a mistake. . . they willfully did what they’ve done! They bastardized their journalistic integrity to be an advocate for the unknown Obama. . .

    Elites are always arrogant!

They made their bed. . . now they lie in it. . . for when you lie with dogs you wake up with fleas!

And the MSM and NYT are infested! Fleabags all of them!

We have a First Amendment freedom of the press so that the media can investigate and publish news without recrimination. With that freedom comes an obligation to be objective and tell the truth. The main stream media accepted the freedom but not the obligation. Where did this concept originate?

“The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses.” Vladimir I Lenin.

I would like to thank Vallery Jerret, Barrys side kick and adviser for doing such a wonderful job to show us right away how corrupted and evil they are.

“What a tangled web we weave when we CONSPIRE to deceive.”

  • MN Jim

A white freshman senator from IL with 2 years experience and a radical background would not have even made the news. obama is a product of the media; without it , he would still be an unknown.

  • If the left is lucky, they’ll discover that Perry was proud to do crack, got his start in the living room of a terrorist, bought his house as part of a scheme involving a gangster, went to a hate-filled church for most of his life, and was best friends with assorted terrorists and gangsters and bad people. If the left is lucky, they’ll discover that Perry was 1/10th as bad as Obama is.

  • chuck in st paul

Awwww come on, he knew it was an interview for The Onion, right?

  • Molon Labe

I am sure the politboro vetted him with great care.

Obama is toast. He’s a bad joke, a man who makes one long for the honesty of Clinton, the competency of Carter, the integrtity of Nixon, and the courage of Kerry.

WAY TOO SOON TO TELL IF THE MEDIA BLEW IT???!!!!! Are you friggin’ kidding me?? Friedman is such a total MORON. I knew that the media was consciously, and with aforethought, “blowing it” DURING THE CAMPAIGN. The MSM did ABSOLUTELY ZERO vetting of the candidate during the race.

    pardon my hollering.

  • Questionman

So now you doubt that Obama graduated from Harvard Law? He was a professor teaching law at Chicago University Law School. You don’t believe the school confirmed his credentials? Plus his writings which appeared in the Harvard Law Review can be found on the internet. I voted for Obama and Oprah Winfred had no influence on my decision. Are you saying that the majority of the people (53% – I looked it up!) who voted for him are stupid??? If so, you are extremely arrogant to think you know so much more.

As excepted the racist right is winning. Nobody knew much about Obama so that left the racist right to make up countless lies and stories about him, combined with their racism, the American people believed it.
