Rep. Michael Burgess Calls for Obama’s Impeachment

Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) called for Obama’s impeachment this week. Burgess said, “The longer we allow the damage to continue unchecked, the worse things are going to be for us.”

The Politico reported:
Impeaching President Barack Obama “needs to happen,” Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) told a local tea party group, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Tuesday.
Burgess spoke, the paper said, in response to an attendee’s suggestion that the GOP-controlled House use impeachment to stop Obama from “pushing his agenda.”
“It needs to happen, and I agree with you it would tie things up,” Burgess reportedly responded. “No question about that.”
When the Star-Telegram’s reporter asked Burgess about the comment, he said the House needs to do what it can to stop the president.
“We need to tie things up,” Burgess said. “The longer we allow the damage to continue unchecked, the worse things are going to be for us.”
Burgess, an obstetrician who is in his fifth term as a lawmaker, is the latest House Republican to call for the president’s impeachment. Last month, Iowa Rep. Steve King said Obama “would be impeached” if he allowed the nation to default.

Incompetence is not a high crime or misdemeanor. Thus not an impeachable offense.
Anyway, impeachment proceedings would be a colossal waste of time–no matter how tempting it is to think of essentially disabling the House and Senate for a few months.
Better to leave this naked emperor right where he is for the next 17 months, forcing the Democrats to continually find new and increasingly preposterous ways to pretend he is fully-clothed.

We’d have a year and three months to do it. I forget how long it took for Clinton to get empeached, but it didn’t take a real long time, did it? We could stop him from running also because he couldn’t run for President when he is being empeached for being President!! He could not run for any office until he was found not guilty of the charges against him. That’s like some state representatives we’ve heard about who were running for office and had to pull out because they were being investigated for some crime. They could not be in office and be in jail at the same time.
I hope this takes off and representatives go after him. You know Reid would be all over this!! He would run down every news crew he could find to tell the American people Obamas’ done nothing and all this is, is a political stunt!! Then we would go after Reid.
Damn, I wish our forefathers had put something in the Constitution that would allow us to empeach a Senator or Congressman. You can’t recall them or nothing. It all has to be done in the House or the Senate, and the President has the authority to do something to. I know he can empeach the Supreme Court justices, but I’d have to look up the rest of what he can do. But if he was being empeached he couldn’t do anything while the investigation was going on. But it wouldn’t stop the Democrats from running another Socialist to run for the office. Not that they’d be running against Obama, but would be running for the office just to keep it Democrat.

It’s a beautiful thought but a waste of time, energy, and money better used to throw the bum out in 2012 if we get to have an election. Impeachment proceedings would only lead to rioting that gives oby the opportunity to issue marshal law-suspend elections-and disarm America. The case for impeachment requires a high crime or misdemeanor. Disagreements over policy do not qualify. Further, impeachment proceedings take time and energy. While I certainly think the Fast & Furious investigation should proceed, I haven’t heard yet about a criminal connection to the White House.
The cheaper, faster, more effective remedy will be the upcoming elections.
Candidates. We need non-Democratic candidates that are vetted, reasonable people. The Democrats need to lose the White House and control of the Senate, and fail to take control of the House.
If the Tea Parties stick to their core issues, namely, the economy, they can push the next election. Then, they will have to work with the Republicans, who are the only national party right now willing to acknowledge listening to them.

While I appreciate a representative finally stating the obvious and that the rep is a Texan, it’s too little too late. The impeachment process taking as long as it does, his term would reach completion before impeachment would. Besides, as was the case with Clinton, this Demonrat Senate wouldn’t vote to remove him once impeached, anyway.
Since Burgess must know this is well as I do, I’m now wondering if his term is up next year and his tough talk is nothing more than fodder for his 2012 campaign for reelection.

The US Constitution only allows this for specific and definite behavior: high crimes and misdemeanors. Not “this guy really sucks at his job” not “I hate him” and not “things are really getting lousy in the country.”

High crimes and misdemeanors is a phrase from Section 4 of Article Two of the United States Constitution: “The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
“High” in the legal parlance of the 18th century means “against the State”. A high crime is one which seeks the overthrow of the country, which gives aid or comfort to its enemies, or which injures the country to the profit of an individual or group. In democracies and similar societies it also includes crimes which attempt to alter the outcome of elections. That is just the Wikipedia summary.
Do you think that Obama has done anything which seeks to overthrow the country. Hell, he campaigned on a platform to overthrow the country. He just called it “Fundamental Transformation”. Framed in that way, everything he and the rest of his cabal have done or failed to do could be construed as a “high crime and misdemeanor. Take your pick.

Just so Christopher knows, when libturds demanded GW Bush be impeached, I never defended him by pointing out that he’d committed no crimes. Instead, I simply laughed at them because he’d done nothing – neither high crime nor misdemeanor (“misdemeanor” being behavior and actions not befitting the POTUS as the Framers of the US Constitution meant) – for which to be impeached. From invading Iraq to overspending, he did nothing without the support of Congress, including Demonrats in Congress.

It would make more sense to organize recall elections against Boehner, McConnell, McCain and any of the other cowards who just stabbed the American People in the back with the Debt Ceiling Fraud. All Rinos in Congress and the Senate need to be removed. If we had Conservatives in the House, Obama would have been cut off at the knees. This group of Rinos will never impeach Obama and he knows it. In my Opinion these elected officials are as complicit as Obama.
