Rep. Bilirakis (R-FL) Demands Answers From Attorney General Holder on Project Castaway

Rep. Gus Bilirakis (Republican of Florida) sent out a letter today to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding answers on Operation Castaway. There are reports that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Tampa Field Division, ran a gun-running investigation that was walking guns to Honduras using the techniques and tactics identical to Fast and Furious. 1,000 of those guns were sold to MS13 buyers.

The Examiner reported:

Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) wrote a letter today to Attorney General Eric Holder and Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Kenneth Melson expressing “deep concern about reports that [ATF and DOJ] have participated in multiple acts of ‘gun walking,’ purposely allowing firearms to pass from straw purchaser into the possession of criminals and other dangerous third party organizations.”

“These reports,” Bilirakis writes, “raise troubling questions about the motives, intentions, and competency of the ATF and DOJ.”

“In recent days,” he notes, “it has come to light that the ATF and DOJ may have participated in the act of ‘gun walking’ beyond the acts conducted within the scope of “Operation Fast and Furious’…and that similar programs included the possible trafficking of arms to dangerous criminal gangs in Honduras with the knowledge of the ATF’s Tampa Field Division.”

Rep. Bilirakis sent me a copy of his letter.
Here are his questions for Holder:

Rep. Bilirakis said they will post an update when they hear back from AG Holder.
Don’t hold your breath guys.

Congratulations, Obama. You run the most lawless administration in American history.

I can understand the logic of using informants and the occasional sting operation for law enforcement purposes. I can conceive of a plan that might inject traceable weapons into the flow of illegal weapons, for the purpose of finding and charging and convicting weapons smugglers. What I really don’t know is how the volume of sales compares to the overall market for these guns in Mexico and Honduras. I also don’t know if those nations were the final destination for those weapons.

Are our neighbors to the south so awash in guns that 1,000 guns in one country and several thousand in another is merely a minor element? Did our own government become a major supplier of guns being pointed at the governments of Mexico and Honduras, as well as our own agents?

There could be good answers to the questions in the letter by Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL). I’d like to see them.

I can’t understand how anything that Eric Holder or Bambi could possible do that would
end in up good for the public interest….

They both are total failures and have shown that the last two and half years, the only
thing possible that would be good for America would be if both were impeached from
    this horrible ordeal……..

If this was Bush the MSM would be at Bush’s doorstep every single hour demanding peoples heads, calling them murderers and demanding jail terms and Bush impeachment.

Holder is a crooked SOB and he and his justice dept need to go to jail.

Obama should also be held accountable. They put Libby in jail for his issues ???? This caused the death of a border patrol agent… I hope the family sues OPbama, Holder, The USA and ATF

Project Castaway, along with Fast and Furious was set up for one reason.

From Fox News, July 11th, 2011.

In an effort to stem the illicit flow of weapons into Mexico, the Justice Department announced Monday that all gun shops in four Southwest border states will be required to alert the federal government to frequent buyers of high-powered rifles.

And he’s not going through Congress to do this. Something tells me we’re going to see more, and more of this from Obama since he knows he’s done in 2012, and he knows he can only get his agenda through Executive Orders.

It will be interesting to see where the “Republican Leadership” will be on this one.

    What’s next? Somalia?

I guess they couldn’t locate enough evil right-wing veteran Christian militant skinheads to peddle this program to.

Our government has run completely amuck. God help us all.

With Nixon’s Watergate no one died, with Obama’s ‘Gun Runner’ program so far 1 ATF agent and who knows the number of untold deaths.

Where is the justice? Where is the media?

They’re too busy ignoring the story, and planning out an off camera strategy with the DNC to protect Obama if this story starts to heat up.

I don’t see the gravity in this— are you guys just tilting at the most available windmill that the right-wing media can serve up or are you just bored? I respectfully recommend you study up on the way the corporations are poisoning us–slowly, but wholesale nonetheless–instead of being distracted by immediate and short-lived inequities. I offer this up cheerfully, in the spirit of bi-cameral friendship and God-ordained grace.

When do we start demanding a Special Prosecutor to look into what is obviously a massive cover-up emanating from the highest places in this administration. We won’t get any truth or cooperation out of Holder or Obama. The depth and height of corruption in the Obama Regime is shameless and beyond precedent.
We can’t depend on our discredited “Fourth Estate” to investigate wrongdoing by this Administration when they send teams out to fish for dirt on Sarah Palin but fail to see the ever growing pile of Democrat dung reaching up to the heavens

This Congressman needs a visit from some Union representatives, to get educated, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, aint it funny how libs are so virulently anti-gun (especially those despicable and murderous ‘assault rifles’), but it’s perfectly okay when their own Marxist Dream Team is acting as the arms dealer.

Don’t send letters. Send subpoenas. If they refuse to respond, charge them with contempt. Time is running short.
