Obama Spends $80 Billion to Save or Create 225,000 Jobs ($355,555 per job) – Calls It a Success

Obviously, Barack Obama’s strength was not in economics.
Team Obama spent $80 billion to save or create 225,000 through the third quarter on 2010 or $355,000 per job. They call this a success.
The Politico reported:
President Barack Obama heads to an energy plant in North Carolina on Monday to talk once again about the job-creating power of a green economy.
The catch? Nearly three years into Obama’s presidency, the White House can’t point to much solid evidence that significant numbers of Americans are scoring the green jobs the president has been touting.
Monthly Labor Department employment reports say nothing about the new clean energy workforce, while an effort to document how many Americans actually make a living in the “green collar” field may not be done by November 2012.
Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers suggests 225,000 clean energy jobs were either created or preserved through the third quarter of 2010 thanks to more than $80 billion in the economic stimulus package. But those are estimates at best.
White House officials say asking about the connection between the 9.1 percent unemployment rate and the administration’s concerted green jobs campaign is the wrong question.
A better benchmark, they say, is the exponential growth in clean technology industries, from the new car battery manufacturers that have sprung up across the Midwest to renewable energy plants, including the world’s largest solar facility that’s slated to break ground Friday in the California desert.
The White House figures 825,000 Americans should be building electric car batteries, retrofitting homes or doing other green collar work by the end of 2012. But that too is an extrapolation.
“It’s certainly a good thing if those numbers are believable,” said Jerry Webman, chief economist at the Oppenheimer Funds. “But they’re not a large enough number for the nation or Obama’s job creation problem.”
For the record… For every green job created by the Obama Administration four jobs are lost in the economy. But Obama doesn’t care. He promised in 2008 that his plan would cause electricity rates to skyrocket and he meant it… The economy be damned.

Obama has NEVER held a real job. Never been held accountable for job performance or ever been evaluated by his boss; until next November that is! Affirmative action dontcha know. He has always just spent other people’s money, if running low on their money, he just ups the tax collections. Obama PRODUCES NOTHING!, and knows nothing but how to bask in the adulation of others. In the context of business and private employment you need to ask the question.
What is a job?
Are there really all theses companies making windmills and solar panel that are growing so fast that they needed to hire 225,000 people who will still be employed five years from now…?
Are the companies that are supposedly hiring these people actually selling a product that people buy or is it just some temporary ponzi scheme paid for with stimulus money that will disappear once the money runs out?
For example. We always hear about “infrastructure”.
We need to repair our “infrastructure”.
The next time you drive under an overpass ask yourself if it needs to be repaired or painted.
If it does then there is a genuine need and that could be a real job but if it is being painted just to keep someone busy with stimulus money then it is a waste of money.

Most “green jobs” if they exist are temporary. If you gave a project to build solar panels to the most impoverished town in Africa, after a year or so all the people would go back to being poor. It works the same way here. I did not go to Harvard or even Occidental College, but I know this. (I went to Syracuse).

I can see some (a little) logic to a program like this – if done honestly. Spending taxpayer (or printed) dollars on real infrastructure projects that will improve future productivity, and spending it on US-produced stuff, and paying for it and the labor the way you or I would spend our own money etc. could be beneficial. Also a pipe dream (opium?) – instead huge amounts will be spent on high-salaried administrators and planners, who will eventually (in a few years) buy a few things from China and pay exhorbitant labor rates to some Mexicans to install them, with no increase in US employment or future productivity to offset the ‘investment,’ and the primary beneficiares being the politicians and their pals.

Socialists love to scold the rest of us on the topic of “sustainability”, yet not a single one of their economic schemes is sustainable.
Borrowing $355,555 to create a single job is a great case in point, especially in light of the simple fact that in 2010 the median household income in the US was $52,026. Thus, we are spending the entire income of 6 households for a single new job. This is the fast track to penury, nor prosperity.

I was wondering that the other day myself when I read of FIVE coal fired electric generating plants being closed due to new EPA regs. There are already huge swaths of the country that suffer from brownouts on a regular basis in the summer – California in particular. They can’t even keep the light on, so just exactly where are they going to get the electricity to charge electric cars?

For example, I spent a career flying in the military…In the several aircraft I flew, I can tell you that there were many “black boxes” that we never even bothered to turn on. Why? Because they didn’t work at all or were not appropriate for our mission.
