Governor Rick Perry told reporters today that he is considering a White House run.
The Statesman reported:
Gov. Rick Perry today gave his strongest indication yet that he may run for president.
“I’m going to think about it” after the legislative session ends Monday, Perry said. He added, “But I think about a lot of things.”
For years, Perry has said that he would not run for president and that he had no interest in the job. He has often said that he has said no to the presidential question in as many ways as he could.
But he and his advisers have inched closer to saying he may run all week, following the announcement that Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels would not enter the GOP field. A couple of days ago, he told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News that a run was tempting.
For the record, Texas has added 732,000 jobs in the last decade. No other state has created over 100,000 jobs.

A true conservative like Rick Perry would run circles around that socialist Obama. We are not going to hold our noses again and vote for another lib-rino like McCain or Romney!
noislamocommie commented:
He is a supporter of the DREAM ACT has led his state into becoming a satellite of Mexico. It’s easy to run a successful economy when you find ways out of passing real immigration enforcement bills and can access non-stop cheap labor. Texas did not get ONE enforcement bill on illegal immigration bill yet. We got stuck with two RINOS Dewhurst and Speaker Strauss all set up to punt and fumble on enforcement.
If you do not want the USA to transform into a communist country via gazillions of illegal aliens then stop supporting the stealth amnesty comprehensive candidates that appear to be pushed by the BUSH-ROVE-NWO open borders crowd.

noislamcommie, you have lobbed that DREAM act accusation before. So again, I ask you to prove that claim. Last time you ran from my request for proof that Perry supports the DREAM Act, a federal bill.
A satellite of Mexico? How so, when we are really the only ones defending our borders with Mexico? Oh, and perhaps you forgot that Perry refused to meet with the Border State/Mexican governors when Calderon slammed Arizona so badly and refused to meet in Tucson.
No, Texas did not get ONE enforcement bill. Gee, I guess you want us to have to go to court like Arizona who DID get an enforcement bill. How you must love spending our money. So, tell me, just what enforcement bill did you want? Perry supported the “sanctuary city” bill, but Democrats in Austin killed it.
Perry is pushed by the Bush-Rove-NWO bunch? Guess that is why Bush/Rove supported Kay Bailey Hutchison in the governor’s race.
I am sick of your false claims. Either back them up or stop making them.
Militant Conservative commented:
Perry supported the Dream Act in his first term. He has since changed his tune due to the damage he has seen. He’s enough of a conservative for me. There are no perfect candidates.
In no specific order the conservative candidates are Palin, Cain, Paul (although crazy), and Perry if he gets in. Romney is a rino establishment candidate.

Ben commented:
Who cares about jobs? Perry made a mistake once related to a vaccine. We should give up on America and just let the socialists have it rather than elect someone who might have made a mistake or two. (end sarcasm)
Perry should run. He’s a strong leader on economic and liberty issues. He would easily beat Obama.
Spider commented:
Chisum, thanks for the link. I like what I’m reading about Perry so far.
I’m a jobs, jobs, jobs guy, so his record of creating jobs in Texas bodes well for me.
The idea that Palin would support him is a big plus.

Absolutely, #3-
He is the one who pushed for mandatory Gardasil vaccinations of all teen/pre-teen girls.

Judicial Watch filed for the adverse events records on this; it is horrifying. You can read more on the JW web site as well as on the sites of any “wellness” focused medical site, like http://www.mercola.com or http://www.russellblaylock.com or many others.
retire05 commented:
Sally, if you are a one issue voter (Gardasil) you are going to be sorely disappoint in ALL of the candidate. And if you can name another governor who has not made a few mistakes, please name them. Even the beloved Christie has made mistakes, like appointing a Shi’ria supporting judge to the bench.
But how many states have created job in the last 10 years? Only 19 of them. And how many have balanced budgets, have had the Obama administration try to usurpt their 10th Amendment rights like they have against Texas, lowered taxes for home owners, created legislation that will require women to have a sonigram before an abortion, voted in photo ID for voting and basically done as well as Texas?
Stuart commented:
The main objective of the 2012 election should be to get rid of Comrade Zero.
To that end I would even support Romney (belch) if that were the only choice.
Perry seems to me to be a strong contender, perhaps-potentially- the strongest.
I like Palin, but I think she might be too easily ground into powder by our dishonest MSM.
That’s my opinion at this point in time. I could be convinced otherwise by events; but isn’t that what campaigns are all about?

I think Gov. Perry would be major improvment over the current crop of potential candidates that we have now, with the exception of one or two. However; The just like Bush meme will surely come in …1..2..3.. if he chooses to run. The MSM will do nothing by try to besmirch and belittle all of the accomplishments that Governor Perry and my fine state has achieved with Republican majorities in all branches of our states’ government. I feel that if he does run and gets the nomination, that he will have to do a lot to prove that he’s not just a political populist, but that he’s a bonefied born again conservative. Governor Perry; If you do choose to run you’ll have the support of a lot of good people. Remember: All of us that would support you will be watching you and we’ll hold your feet to the fire. God Bless.

This comment at Hot Air the other day was a real eye-opener for me:

Oh and…
-Chairman of Texans for Gore in 1988
-Backed Dukakis over Bush in 1988
-Backed Mondale over Reagan in 1984
-Backed Carter over Reagan in 1980
I have a hard time trusting a Republican who came over from the Democratic Party after the Reagan Administration. Could be W 2.0 (not a good thing imho)

Mr. Perry would be a welcome addition, having proven CEO experience.
HE has benefited ironically by the sound offering from GW Bush as a successful two term Governor of Texas. It is another major contradiction in what the fashionable conservative arena amongst Our Base provides, as Texas is often touted as a symbol of conservative success, while many emotives shout that GW Bush is a “RINO” and a “Traitor”.
Of course it is nonsense, and TEXAS remains a success today, partly because of GW’s fine leadership. It is stunning how misguided the fashion has become amongst us, and we watched it with the hyping of a liberal-moderate con artist named Trump.
Some today, would absolutely have rejected the GIPPER as a “RINO” as well, looking at his offering from the blue state named California.
We have to do better than this. Celebrity hype and image-identity stereotypes are not going to help this Nation. We cannot allow the same self destructive Delaware Disaster to happen again because of simplistic fashionable hype.

I am very excited about the possibility of Rick Perry entering the race. He has had his problems with Obama. The Lizard that the EPA wants to put on the endangered species list could cause the loss 360,000 jobs in Texas. retire05 commented:
huckleberryfriend, let’s get something straight: Gardasil was a mistake, but a lot of other people supported that plan; TransTexas Corridor, was a Bush initative that was created at a meeting in Waco, Texas between Bush, Vicente Fox and the then PM of Canada. Our Tex/Mex border? Well, perhaps you haven’t noticed how Greta Van Sustern has been spending a lot of time in Texas reporting on the border. There is a reason for that. Perry has invited her to travel with him, talk to the ranches who live on the border, speak with our DPS and border county sheriffs. A border wall is fine, but if you don’t have the boots on the ground to watch/protect that wall, it becomes as useless as your back yard fence in keeping out burglars. And while I support the border wall, I understand what Perry is saying when he says without the boots on the ground, the drones to identify where the illegals are, the fence is just a minor inconvenience to those who really want to get into our nation illegally.
But you can’t argue with success. We have a 7.7% unemployment rate. We have no state income tax. Our ad valorum taxes have been lowered. Our high school graduation rate continues to increase, especially in minorities. And, AND we have absorbed people from every failed state in the nation because of our conservative ways.

Can you imagine Ronald Reagan ever remotely supporting someone like Al Gore.
From the wiki article on Reagan: In 1962 Reagan formally switched to the Republican Party, stating, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.” [Hayward, Steven F. (2009). The Age of Reagan: The Conservative Counterrevolution: 1980–1989. ISBN 0-307-45369-3 - p. 635]
Rick Perry was on that train a long time after it left the station.

AuntieMadder, if you are a Texan, you are a painfully uninformed one. Yes, Gardasil was a mistake, but there were plenty of others touting its greatness when Perry was and before the adverse information came out about it.
As to the TransTexas Corridor? Obviously you think that was Perry’s idea. It wasn’t. It was Bush’s idea that had already been put into play before January 20, 2001. It was part of the agreement between Fox, Bush and the PM of Canada. So it was already agreed upon when Perry took office. But it had been flying under the radar and it came to life because of a man named David Stall of LaGrange, who finally said “hey, maybe we should look behind the curtain here.”
AuntieMadder commented:
@ #46 – If I didn’t know about it because it had been hidden, that would hardly make me “painfully” uninformed. Instead, I’m just as uninformed as everyone else from whom it was hidden.
As for the Gardisil thing, the choice was made too soon. Supporting it was a mistake. Perry made a mistake by signing the bill making Gardisil vaccination mandatory before it had been thoroughly tested. That doesn’t make him a bad guy. It just means he made a mistake. Like my granddad used to say, that’s why they put erasers on the ends of pencils: because people make mistakes.
I still like Perry. As Militant Conservative said, there are no perfect candidates. Perry’s okay by me.

AuntieMadder, Bush met with Fox long before Perry assumed the office. One of those meetings was to design the TransTexas Corridor. In 2005, Bush met with Fox again, this time in Waco, with the PM of Canada also there. Out of that came the Merida Agreement.
Also, what was the vote on the Gardasil bill? Was it veto proof? Remember, Perry had a Democrat controlled House at the time. And if it was around 2003, they held a super majority. It would have been around the same time as the Super D’s fled for Oklahoma and New Mexico.
RedBeard commented:
I’m trying to digest some of the logic I’m reading here. Not the lying crapola from the leftie trolls, but the stuff from our own side. So far, I’m getting the following:
– Ronald Reagan was once a New Deal leftie, so he should never have been our president.
– George Washington made a bunch of bad decisions in the early days of the American revolution, so he should never have been our president.
– Ike was politically vague prior to 1952, and wasn’t even sure what party he belonged to, so he should never have been our president.
The perfect man hasn’t been seen on this planet (not in the last two thousand years, at least) so I’m not wasting my time waiting for him to run for president. I’m looking for the best possible candidate out of what’s available, and for one who can beat Obama. There is no more important work for any real American than the removal of the cretin currently occupying the Oval Office. I totally agree. For some people, no one will be conservative enough unless they are unelectable. We cannot make the same mistakes that happened in Maryland and Nevada. They had candidates that made it impossible to take important seats. O’Donnell could not win in a heavy Dem state. Angle was just too weak an opponent to defeat Reid. A stronger candidate would have defeated a severely weakened Reid. And a 3rd party killed the GOP’s chances in NY-26 and turned over a historically GOP seat to a lib/Dem.
In order to defeat Obama, we have to get the independent vote.
I would vote for Perry and believe he could very well knock Obama out of the WH. That should be our #1 priority.
