The Pakistani Foreign Secretary told the BBC yesterday that Pakistan alerted the US about Osama Bion Laden’s compound back in 2009.
Dawn reported:
Pakistan alerted the US to its suspicions about a compound where Osama bin Laden was found hiding as far back as 2009, Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said on Wednesday.
Bashir also hit out at “disquieting” comments by CIA Director Leon Panetta that US officials had ruled out informing Islamabad in advance about Sunday’s US raid on the Pakistani compound which led to the al Qaeda chief’s death.
Asked in a BBC radio interview about the compound in Abbottabad where the al Qaeda chief was discovered, Bashir said: “This particular location was pointed out by our intelligence quite some time ago to the US intelligence.
“Of course they have a much more sophisticated equipment to evaluate and to assess.”
“We had indicated this compound as far back as 2009 as a possible place,” Bashir added, although he added it was not known at the time bin Laden was hiding there and there were “millions” of other suspect locations.
On Panetta’s comments, the Pakistani official said: “I know for sure that we have extended every cooperation to the US including the CIA as well as to other countries so far as the campaign against terror is concerned.
“In terms of success in what is called global anti-terror, Pakistan has played a pivotal role so it is a little disquieting when we hear comments like this.”
The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported this:
As far as the target compound is concerned, ISI had been sharing information with CIA and other friendly intelligence agencies since 2009.

maybe the same way manila warned clinton about bojinka.
[Among the report's other new disclosures: Bill Clinton also got a strong warning that bin Laden wanted to hijack planes. On Dec. 4, 1998, Clinton was presented with a President's Daily Brief (PDB) with the eye-catching title "Bin Laden Preparing to Hijack U.S. Aircraft and other attacks," Newsweek has learned.]

From initial reports form the LSM, it sure doesn’t look much like a mansion to me.

Maybe Obama should have ordered a missile strike after all- looks like the Bin Laden compound could become a shrine to his followers.

Might even be true, but it’s not rational to believe anything a Pakistani official says.
Pakis are our allies? Ha. They’re worse allies than the Soviets in WWII. At least Stalin stopped conspiring with the Nazis for a while.
Deanna commented:
It’s possible this is true but they didn’t check it out or confirm it so it was left to us to do so. My understanding is it was confirmed in August of last year. Sounds about right.

So that makes Pakistani-spin #12? 13?
Ah yes, here’s the spin of the spin: “We had indicated this compound as far back as 2009 as a possible place”
They probably indicated a few dozen others. And then the analysts in the States had to weed through tera-bytes of data or even more.
“Pakistan has played a pivotal role” yes, in harboring the bastard, in allowing AQ operating on their territory, etc.
Rob De Witt commented:
Whatever my feelings about Pakistan’s involvement in this situation, keep this in mind:
Obama scored this putative coup only days after Donald Trump forced in hand in the birth certificate nonsense. The White House gang suffered enormous embarrassment, and it didn’t look like it was going away any time soon.
In January of 1998, Matt Drudge broke the news of Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky. As the year progressed, this story grew into a scandal of massive proportions. In August of that year, Clinton ordered a missile attack on a factory in Sudan, which eclipsed the Lewinsky attack and once again diverted the attention of the electorate from a Democrat scandal by casting the Dems as the party of national security.
Am I the only one who finds all this extremely coincidental?
Steve White commented:
It’s not like the mighty Pak army has the manpower to check out suspicious buildings on the outskirts of Islamabad, after all. Best to leave that to someone else.
Everything — everything — the Paks are saying today is desperate spin. They have to say something, after all, since they look like complete fools to their Islamic brethren. That’s why Perv (Pervez Musharraf) is sounding off about ‘violations to our sovereignty and dignity’. He has to cover for the fact that HE knew where Binny was all along, as did every other Pak leader who was well connected to the ISI.
Ignore what they say. Watch what they do.

Can you say “disinformation?” Sure, include bin Laden’s actual location on the list of millions of possible locations. Mixing some facts in with a pack of lies is Disinformation 101 for Operatives. Just ask Alex Jones, Barky’s propagandists, the Kremlin or the CIA, to name just a few pros. It lends credibility to the BS and it misleads investigators from the trail and onto paths leading to dead ends.
Eddie Baby commented:
Alerting a foreign power to a possible hideout in your own country that you never bother to check out yourself? If your going to lie, at least be plausible with your lie. This statement is beyond stupid.
Joanne commented:
I don’t doubt this – Obama knew about it and took far longer than expected to do anything about it – they guy who can’t make a decision other than to restrict U.S. troop action with policies that have endangered their lives, since he usurped the Office of President.
Jen commented:
Then how the heck did they find Osama’s precise location if the Pakistanis weren’t helping the USA?
SeesBeyond commented:
So, the Pakis suspected OBL was at this location two years ago, yet did nothing to check it out despite knowing that he was the world’s most wanted terrorist? No wonder the U.S. kept their operations a secret from Pakistan.
About this “mansion” becoming a shrine: There is now no reason NOT to unleash a few Predators to completely obliterate the place. This would also help reiterate that we’re done with f*ck*ng around with Pakistan and its deceptions.
Wondering Aloud commented:
Um… So why didn’t they ever check it out and arrest him?
PakistaniVersion commented:
Pakistani resources were always committed to catching Pakistani Taliban. Afa the Arabs and other foreigners were concerned, ISI shared intelligence with the CIA and it was upto the CIA to make sense of the intels and identify the targets. In this case, ISI traced 6 calls made by “Arshad Khan” to Saudi Arabia over the years. The content and location of the calls were shared with the CIA. The first call was made from Noshera a number of years back. The last call was made in early 2009 from this compound. That is what eventually lead the Americans to the compound.
Why didn’t the Pakistani take action themselves. Because it was a working lead. Had they acted upon it without being absolutely certain about the existence of a high valued target, it would have ruined the chances of eventually catching Osama there. It was up to the CIA to narrow down the intel and identify the target and share it with us.
