Oh Good Grief… Obama Botches Toast to the Queen (Video)

Oh Good Grief… He even botched the Queen’s toast.
What a complete embarrassment.
The community organizer can’t even toast the Queen without mucking it up.

Jake Tapper at ABC reported:
When the president toasted the Queen the orchestra misunderstood a pause and what seemed to be a cue from the president for “God Save the Queen” to begin playing.
“Ladies and gentlemen please stand with me and raise your glasses as I propose a toast,” the president said, putting down his note cards and grabbing his glass. “To her majesty the Queen.”
The president paused, the guests stood, and the orchestra prepared to play.
But the president wasn’t done speaking.
“The vitality –“ the president said before the orchestra began.
Then the familiar tune – you might know it better as “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” – started up.
The president kept going: “ — of the special relationship between our peoples and for the words of Shakespeare to this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,” the president said as the awkward moment played out.
The Queen looked ahead as the UK anthem played.
“To the Queen,” the president finally said.
He lifted his glass to her, she smiled a bit uncomfortably.
But because the song was playing, no one drank from his or her glass, including the president, who put his glass down on the table.
Well, at least Michelle was patting the queen on the back this time.
Once again, could you even imagine if a Republican committed such an embarrassingly gaffe?
We’d never hear the end of it.
UPDATE: Michelle Obama didn’t fare much better.
Nothing but class, these two.
More… The British press is not impressed with Michelle’s fashion sense.

Did anyone else notice that after the botched toast and the anthem was finished, the Queen picked up her glass and took a sip, but Obama never drank a drop? Isn’t that bad form, to make a toast to someone and then not take a drink? Doesn’t this DWEEB have anyone on staff who knows protocol? I mean, wasn’t he told that the toast should end with “To the Queen” and that would be the cue for the anthem to start? My guess is that the Harvard know-it-alls on his staff didn’t rehearse his toast with the royal staff because they were too ‘smart’ to bother with it. Well, I’m no idiot, and I’m on Obama (and his wife) for every gaffe they make, because it just drives me crazy; not to mention her godawful getups, and his general contempt for practically everyone, etc., etc. (I could go on and on.)
But apparently I don’t know the protocol for toasts. On Hot Air, they mentioned that the toast wasn’t even supposed to be given until AFTER “God Save the Queen.” Which would make more sense.
In addition, the article said the band “misunderstood the pause,” when it didn’t seem to me to be a very long pause at all. Putting that together with what I read on Hot Air, it would seem the band started the music because they expected the toast to come afterward.
So it wouldn’t have been the pause at all, which, as I said, wasn’t much of a pause. Nor would it have been because he uttered the words “to the Queen.”
What you say about not speaking during the anthem makes sense, though.

Obviously, the band started playing before they were supposed to. However, at the same time, this should NOT have thrown him–he’s the LEADER OF THE MOST POWERFUL NATION ON EARTH for God’s sake!
Obummer should have known protocol (WE aren’t expected to know all this hoidy toidy stuff, but HE is…and in this case it was NOT hoidy toidy! Compare this to being at a football game, and the Star Spangled Banner comes on but the game announcers are still talking OVER it!) What made him keep talking even though it was obvious to him that he shouldn’t was his EGO, pure and simple. HE was more important to HIMSELF than that country’s “National Anthem,” and he thought THEY all thought he was more important as well! Case closed!
