President Barack Obama April 2009: The recovery will take months.
Via Bloomberg:
President Barack Obama said it will take “many more months” for the U.S. to fully recover from the recession as employers continue to eliminate jobs.
The president said in his weekly address on the radio and the Internet that yesterday’s government report on the gross domestic product showed the recession was “even deeper than anyone thought” when he took office in January. The stimulus legislation passed by Congress in February and measures to stem home foreclosures have helped stem the slide, he said.
President Barack Obma May 2011: The recovery will take years.
Via Real Clear Politics:
So — so part of what’s happened also is some structural changes in the economy. Where it used to be that there was broad-based shared prosperity, now if companies are doing really well — they’re not necessarily hiring back workers. They’re just figuring out how to do more with fewer workers. That may increase profits, but it doesn’t help folks who are lookin’ for a job. And often times that look — puts a lot of pressure on the people who are already on the job.
So, some of the changes that are taking place in the economy are ones that took a decade or two to get to. And it’s gonna take us several years for us to get back to where we need to be.

Obama is weak and will keep getting weaker as long as the economy is in the toilet. As long as gas is over $4.00 a gallon (as it has been since about the first of May here) he is toast. As long as food prices are too high, as they have been for months, he is unelectable. I hate to see the economy suck for the next 18 months, but if that is what it will take to get this horrible liberal/marxist president out of office, I guess I can put up with expensive groceries and $4.XX gas.
Freddy commented:
“… They’re just figuring out how to do more with fewer workers …”
This sums up Obama’s work experience perfectly. Obama simply does not understand the a good business is ALWAYS trying to do more with fewer workers! It is called, increased productivity.
Obama is incompetant.

Sorry, BO, it’ll take generations to recover from the unmitigated disaster that is your regime. It’ll take at least that long to unravel the twisted yarn of poisonous decadence that your sick socialism and lack of principled responsibility are doing to our culture and civilization. The leftist regime does not want a recovery. Period. They have raided the treasury and continue to do so all the while lying their a&&e& off trying to convince everyone this was the fault of GWB.
Problems due to big government have been growing like an unchecked cancer FOR DECADES. Was GWB the sole one to blame? Nope.
CURRENT problems, however, rest SOLELY in the lap of all CURRENT AND PAST leftist, non-conservative and UN-constitutional policies.
There is a LOT to clean up. TheUrkel is “correct” when he says it will take years.
It will take years to clean up all the leftist cancer which has infect the body of America.
-welfare mentality
-public education
-energy independence, drill here, drill now
-lack of immigration enforcement, seal the borders properly
-leftist infiltration in media, hollywood, schools
-elimination of all communist czars
-minimize or eliminate unnecessary fed govt departments (EPA, NEA, yadda yadda)
The next few Republican (or new TEA party?) POTUSes will have work to do. Hard work to clean up corruption but it can and will be done.

Unemployment is always a lagging indicator.
As the economy enters a recession, companies hang onto workers, even if they are underutilized, because the recession may be short-lived and it is inefficient to fire, rehire, train, and retrain workers. As a recession deepens, companies have to let underutilized workers go, in order to survive. As the economy rebounds, companies are slow to rehire because the recovery may be short-lived.
They keep telling us this guy is smart. But he is talking about a basic fact of economics as if it is a new phenomenon. It should be deeply disturbing to the American people that we have an economic illiterate in the Oval Office.

Obama’s policies are anti-business, punishing those who are able to make a profit. He has regulated commerce to a degree that is choking economic recovery. Uncertainties about the cost of money, labor, energy and taxes are keeping $2 trillion on the sidelines, keeping private sector unemployment artificially high.
In our company, we have a product ready for release that will create about 15 engineering and production jobs for at least six years. The bank has approved my business plan and has drafted a covenant, but I will not proceed until I know what my indirect costs will be. Will I be forced to deal with a union? provide healthcare? What will I pay for energy? transportation? new paperwork? Will corporate taxes go up? What will the IRS allow us to expense?
The irony is that eight of these new jobs will be entry level assembly workers, the very jobs so lacking in the black community, where 25% of black men are idle. Unless the democrats in the Senate start dismantling these obscene Obama programs, we will put off our launch until after the 2012 election.

#5: Hey Taqiy — Or how about this one:
“Giddy with success”
I’ve long thought that Josef Stalin’s famous “giddy with success” speech is an excellent analogue for Obama’s disastrous economic policies and public pronouncements. After Stalin’s forced collectivization of Soviet agriculture in the late 1920′s and early 1930′s basically destroyed Soviet agricultural output and resulted in the deaths of many thousands of peasants, Stalin declared that the “unexpected” speed with which the Communist Party had achieved collectivization had made certain party members “giddy with success,” and that this “giddiness” had led to certain “excesses” that “enemies” of the working class were now using to criticize forced collectivization. The solution to the problem, said Stalin, was to slow collectivization down, so as not to “bring grist to the mill of our class enemies.”
As with Stalin, in Obama’s mind the problem is NEVER the idiocy of his own economic policies. It’s always the machinations of some class “enemy.” In Stalin’s case, the class enemy was the kulak class — owners of private farms. Obama’s class enemy is similar — the entrepreneurial class, i.e., the evil profit-seeking business owners who aren’t hiring fast enough to suit The Won as the economy allegedly “improves.” Obama’s most recent speech is therefore his declaration of war on these class enemies.
A link to Stalin’s “giddy with success” speech is here (though it uses the alternate translation, “dizzy with success”):

If he had left things alone and let the Market fix itself…it would have only taken months to fix..
Now that he has inflated the problem so much with his disasterous policies…(and the fact that he is there causing problems and pushing Communism till 2012)..of course it will NOW take years to fix.

WHY OBAMA CAN’T BE RE-ELECTED:
1. Obama has now been vetted. He NEVER WAS vetted in 2008.
2.Gas prices have gone from $1.93 to 4.36 on his watch; when President Bush was in charge gas was $2.30 per gal.; oil production was up 20%.
3. Obamacare.
4. Waivers for Obamacare.
5. His Wisconsin friends—demonstrating and creating chaos when some of them belonged in school teaching –(“we care for the students”)–or other institutions.
6. Pigford settlement—a fraud.
7. Letting the Black Panthers off the hook from the Philadelphia show in 2008.
8. Canceling and “playing politics” with oil permits.
9. The U.S. has now lost its AAA rating.
10. The value of the dollar has declined.
11. Food stamps 1 in 7.
12. Unemployment now at 9% (Bloomberg 5/6/11) (remember Biden promised 200,000-500,000 new jobs per month!! back in 2010)
13. Inflation in many sectors including food; famously expressed by someone at a Federal Reserve show and tell, “I can’t eat an I-Pad.”
14. Cash for Clunkers.
15. The phony “stimulus”—failed $850 billion
16. How many times has Trumka visited the White House?
17. Contempt of court for the oil permits in the Gulf and Obamacare.
18. The seizure of GM and Chrysler, transferring bondholder wealth to unions—otherwise known as seizure of private property
19. The shutdown of Shell’s Arctic oil exploration by EPA (a regulatory KGB)
20. Dodd-Frank.
21. Hostility toward Israel.
22. His push for unconstitutional restrictions on free speech via the FCC.
23. The NLRB’s fight against Boeing.
24. the Czars.
25. Failure to resume full water deliveries to California’s central valley because of the DELTA SMELT. Can we shout that out each time the unemployment numbers come up? What has this alone done to unemployment in California?
26. Attempts to try the terrorists in civilian New York City trials.
27. Takeover of the student loan program.
28. Attack on Arizona for exercising state’s exercise of legislative authority on citizen identification rules.
29. Failure to secure the southern border (Al Queda now has a group located in Mexico)
30. The war on Libya.
31. His latest attack on free speech via the regulation to disclose contributions with government contractors. Even Mitch McConnell has called this “Gangster Politics” (see Strassel WSJ 5/6/11)
32. His general loathing of Americans.
33. Fort Hood
34. The proposed new gas mileage tax!
35. His utter hypocrisy when, e.g. with Osama when he totally voted AGAINST the war, Guantanamo, renditions, etc etc etc
36. Driving up health care costs for everyone—even before Obamacare
37. “Bailing out” his billionare friends in the financial markets, at GE, etc.
38. Breaking campaign promise of transparency
39. Humiliating millions of Americans traveling through airports with sexual harassment tactics
40. Inciting racism through ignorant comments and the “Beer Summit”
41. Eased the restrictions on stem cell research. The feeble-minded half-wits in the state of Cali passed a bond measure that has devoted $3 billion dollars to this research…result? NOTHING! So this is an announcement that we are going to waste more billions on NOTHING just to show those stupid Christians what we think about their concern for so-called ‘human lives’
42. $14.6 Trillion in debt
43. $1.5 Trillion in NEW debt from 2012 budget
44. GDP 1.5% growth
45. Revealing information about every Trident missile the US supplies to Britain as part of an arms control deal signed by President Barack Obama next week.
