Don’t expect this to make too many headlines…
It was al-Qaida facilitator Hassan Ghul, a terrorist captured in Iraq, who gave US officials information on the courier’s identity.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (above) provided the CIA with the name of bin Laden’s personal courier. So did Iraqi terrorist Hassan Gul.

The Telegraph reported:

For the past two years, American spies had been monitoring the courier, known as Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, after learning his name four years ago, according to US officials.

When al-Kuwaiti made a phone call in 2010, he unknowingly led the Americans to the doorstep of the world’s most wanted terrorist. He was said to have been among those killed alongside Osama bin Laden in yesterday’s dramatic raid.

Secret American military files from Guantanamo Bay, leaked to Wikileaks and seen by The Daily Telegraph, suggest that al-Kuwaiti may have been with bin Laden ever since he disappeared from the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan in 2001…

…The file suggests that the courier’s identity was provided to the US by another key source, the al-Qaida facilitator Hassan Ghul, who was captured in Iraq in 2004 and interrogated by the CIA. Ghul was never sent to Guantanamo but was believed to have been taken to a prison in Pakistan.

He told the Americans that al-Kuwaiti travelled with bin Laden. The file states:

“Al-Kuwaiti was seen in Tora Bora and it is possible al-Kuwaiti was one of the individuals [al-Qahtani] reported accompanying UBL [bin Laden] in Tora Bora prior to UBL’s disappearance.”

The picture that emerges from al-Qahtani’s Guantanamo file supports statements given in the last 24 hours by US officials, who named Ghul as the “linchpin” in the intelligence operation to find bin Laden.

UPDATE: Ace of Spades put together the string of events that occurred during the Bush years that led to Osama’s death on Sunday.

Al-Qaida’s New Battle Hardened, Difficult Leader

[In the wake of Osama bin Laden's demise, his likely successor is his longtime deputy and collaborator, Egyptian jihadist Ayman al-Zawahiri. The U.S. government has offered a reward of up to $25 million for Zawahiri, who officials have said was responsible for the planning of 9/11, the bombings of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, and the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen.]

    Hassan Ghul

[Hassan Ghul, probably from Pakistani descent, was an Al Qaeda operative from the early 90s. He was first mentioned in The 9/11 Commission report, where he was stated to be a currier between Al Qaeda senior operatives , such as Mushabib Al Hamlan , Abu Zubaydah and Khalid Shaik Mohammed.

In 03/2000 Hassan Ghul helped Mushabib Al Hamlan to cross the border to Afghanistan from Islamabad, Pakistan, under the supervision of Abu Zubydah.

On 01/22/2004 Hassan Ghul was captured, by Kurdish police, on the border between Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan. Hassan Ghul was carrying a flash drive (Disk-on-key) and two CDs, one allegedly including a 17-page progress report believed to have been written by Abu Musab al Zarqawi in Iraq to Ayman Al Zawahiri in Afghanistan. The letter revealed that the hatred of Abu Musab al Zarqawi was not only to the USA but to the Shiites as well.

Although Hassan Ghul was cooperative with the USA military interrogation, his questioning revealed little. Hassan Ghul became one of 39 ghost detainees as prisoners of USA who have not been accounted for up to 07/2007.

Today (05/2008) it is not clear if Hassan Ghul is still alive. If so, he is probably held in a secret CIA prison somewhere in the world. Hassan Ghul was, probably, just a currier with no special importance other then the documents he carried with him. ]

  7. Hmmmm. The UK Mail has Abu Faraj al-Libi as the source, others have said KSM, and now he hear it’s Hassan Ghul.

Of course, there is no reason at all that the source HAS to be one person, indeed, interrogators would try very hard to get corroboration from other detainees. It’s not impossible it WAS all 3, and that’s how they knew there was something to it and not just made up.

How much “enhanced interrogation” had to do with it remains to be seen. I’d like very much to know.

  9. I still can’t believe the porn star Ron Jeremey is a terrorist!

  10. Quote: “Ghul was never sent to Guantanamo but was believed to have been taken to a prison in Pakistan.”

Where they used certain “enhanced interrogation techniques” that the Pakistanis had nor moral or ethical objection with utilizing. This is why, in the overall “Global War on Terror,” the “Art of Rendition” is a very effective tool in neutralizing our enemies. You know, the ones who have no problem in murdering your sister or mother, or your children, to promote their ideal of a One World Islamist State. Play nice with these rodents and you will die.

  11. Sorry, folks. But this is only bad news for the dems if the population hears about it…which they won’t.

If the corrupt, lamestream media doesn’t talk about it, for all intents and purposes it didn’t happen.
