Newt Gingrich faced backlash today after he slammed Paul Ryan’s “radical plan” to fix Medicare.
Rush Limbaugh let him have it today on his show. Later today an Iowa voter chewed out Newt Gingrich in Dubuque. It was ugly.
“Newt Gingrich, what you just did to Paul Ryan was unforgivable.”
Iowa voter:
“Newt Gingrich, what you just did to Paul Ryan was unforgivable… You undercut him and his allies in the House. You’re an embarrassment to the party.”
That was a bit too harsh.

He’s in serious trouble in southwest Iowa. We were talking about his candidacy today at Caseys at lunch, and at the grocery later this afternoon. Any doubt that he’s just some tool for the elites who’ve driven this country into the ground was erased this weekend.
Time to throw in the towel. And by the way, Romney might as well spend all that fat cat New England cash elsewhere. Iowans aren’t keen on his style of “more efficient” big government.

I think her and Newt having been hanging out together on the love seat again.

I don’t think its too harsh. Newt just gave Democrats an ad that will just keep on giving against Republicans. He screwed up royally. If he has a different plan to give, he could have certainly done it in a different manner. The guy’s running for president and the way he handled this doesn’t give me any confidence of having him in the WH. Newt has alot of offer, but any plans of getting the nomination just went down the drain.

It’s the producers vs. the welfare slugs and their pimps. The Iowa guy was NOT to harsh, Gingrich IS a disgrace.

I so loved the dressing down of Newt by the man from Iowa. Newt just gave the left so much fodder to use against the few Republicans that appear to be doing the right thing. A lot of people think he is this great “idea man,” but I remember seeing him appear in “Green” ads with Nancy Pelosi before he went the other way. What a two-faced career politician.

That was not too harsh. In simple terms, this is what Newt did… he pandered to the liberals and the media with a statement he did not have to make. WTF was that about? This just goes to show you how slimey some politicians are when they are running for office.
Why say anything about Ryan? Why not just talk about the problems with Obama’s economic policies and if Newt has any great ideas…. lets hear his ideas…. not kicking Ryan when he is not there to defend himself on a liberal leaning talk show.
Bull crap to Newt. He just f**ked up.

I respectfully disagree Mr. Holt. Harsh? Yes. But it was not “too” harsh. It was the truth, and the truth can be harsh and it can hurt. However, the guy didn’t go personal, he just just gave the conclusion of the facts as he saw them. What Gingrich did was an unforgivable, it was an undercut – a cheap one at that, and he is an embarrassment. I would add disgrace too. He is completely out of touch, and this is no longer the Republican party of the 90s. This isn’t the first time Gingrich has done this kind of undercut either. He’s done this to several Republicans. Palin & Christine O’Donnell are two that immediately come to mind, and heck, he dissed the entire TEAParty at one point more than once.
CV1 commented:
Had that Iowa guy been a liberal, Newt would have had to file assault charges. Instead, the conservative gentleman was cool, calm, and collected…and correct.
Newt better get used to it. That sly, over-confident smile of his will not go as far as it once did. Paul Ryan would destroy him in a budget debate.

Newt suffers from a terminal disease dubbed during Truman’s run of lies & spin as Potomac Fever. Nearly everyone elected to the political class or that resides in the vicinity of the Beltway or a state capitol soon become infected by the fever & rapidly regress to an advanced state of mental degeneracy, moral depravity, & utter cluelessness. Newt more than fifteen years ago got infected with the Potomac fever bug and is politically dead.

I agree with this Iowa voter. Hell, I’m probably more left than most on this blog, and even I recognize that the Newtster just gave a massive gift to the demonrats. Newty doesn’t realise the media will protect the fraud like no one in America’s history. Any candidate is not only running against the fraud BUT AGAINST THE ENTIRE AMERICAN MEDIA APPARATUS.
He needs to quit, he’s a smart man, but he is as Brit Hume said “a bomb thrower”, this is not the 90′s, there are hillary voters like me who will vote for anyone who is a fiscal conservative and for limited govt who CANNOT STAND THAT PO$ in the WH. And we are not repubs, we are former dems, now registered independents.
And as for Paul Ryan, I like the man, I don’t agree with his entire plan, but I trust his sincerity and do believe he has a very good grasp of how much trouble this country is in. Why isn’t he running for president??!?!?
Newty, please leave and now. Attack the fraud from the outside, not as a candidate. Same goes to Trump, attack as an outsider, hammer away.
CommieJuice commented:
Too harsh? Jim, come on! This isn’t the 1990′s, he isn’t a leading CONSERVATIVE candidate. He is 75/25, most of what Newt says is good, but the other 25% puts a smile on Pelosi’s frozen face.

Speaking Clearly commented:
This is a very strange political cycle.
The elections of 2010 showed us that Americans were ready for Conservatives to lead, and were sick and tired of the Progressive onslaught.
Now we’ve seen potential candidates like Trump and Huckabee choose high dollar lucrative television contracts, over leading the Country. What would George Washington think?
I’m glad that Huckabee isn’t running, but Trump’s “no guts no glory” attitude is what alot of people were hungry for.
Even Fox News is constantly beating the drum about how any GOP frontrunner is going to be fighting against the smears of the liberal media, who want to re-elect Barack Obama.
OReilly and Hume even talked about how “Iowa” will show us who is the best GOP hopefuls, and how only the candidates with the most money will make it through the process. Really? Sounds defeatist to me. Is this the best we can do?
I think alot of Americans would like to see a strong Conservative stand up, and show they are ready to lead this Counry before the Iowa caucuses. That way, all the 50 States feel like their getting behind the best candidate, as we go into the primaries.
It’s too bad that we have an election system that is based so much on money. It would make more sense to me with modern communications, if the candidates just held a series of conventions through the whole process, and was able to do televised, and video conferencing debates, with all of the 50 States’ delagates, and citizens, watching at the same time. This way, you wouldn’t have ONE STATE being singled out with an advantage.
The candidates could fly around the Country randomly between the televised Convention/Debates.
I think what most Americans are looking for, is a non-RINO candidate, with good name recognition, that will have strong Conservative policies, to reverse what Obama, and other progressives have done to damage the United States.
Isn’t it obvious that Americans want a candidate with the attitude of some of the freshmen Conservatives that were elected in 2010?
How Conservative will a Romney or Gingrich be? I don’t thing nearly Conservative enough for most Americans. Mitch Daniels has been keeping too low of a profile in my opinion.
At this point, I wish Chris Christy would reconsider….or even West or Ryan.
In my opinion, a Romney or Gingrich would have to do alot of damage control, and make alot of solid promises on Conservative, non-RINO policies, in order for the Tea Party to get behind them. Wouldn’t you think this is who the GOP hopefuls would be trying to impress? After all, isn’t that what helped so many new freshmen get elected in 2010?
Brett Finley commented:
Newt is a POOT. Embarassing, foul hot air with no redeeming value. Go Hawkeye dude! YOU speak for us far more than this dishrag of an aisle hopping RINO-wino ever will. Hey Gingrich can shut the hell up and go back to hawking his “what me worry?” memoirs.

And then, ALL 50 States voted at the same time, after the final Convention. This way, you wouldn’t have ONE STATE being singled out with an advantage.
The candidates could fly around the Country randomly between the televised Convention/Debates, and polls could be taken between the series of Convention/Debates.
All 50 States could vote together at the end. Wouldn’t this also be cheaper than flying and driving to every single county in the country? This is part of what makes money be the driving force behind which candidate wins.

This was dead on. This was Newt pandering to the msm and hoping to get the applause of the beltway crowd. But the base is sick and tired of the beltway rinos selling the country out for a few meaningless compliments from Couric and Brokaw. Newt is way out of step with the party and if you think that this was harsh then perhaps you are becomming so as well, Jim.

I wonder how strong the Tea Party is in Iowa? It would be nice if they would add Jim DeMint to the list of who to pressure into running.
Isn’t it obvious to candidates like Romney and Gingrich, that the American people want their candidate to fight just as rough as the Obama administration has?
Gingrich and Romney’s “play nice” attitude, and the attitude that the GOP can’t ram anything down the American people is midguided in my opinion. I think the American people want the opposite of Obama rammed on us, to get us back on track.

Christie is conservative by New Jersey standards, but when you look at his stance on some issues, he looks like a liberal. Overall, in the non-jersey world, he’s a centrist. He’s not conservative enough to fix the nation (or rather, to get govt out of the way so WE the PEOPLE can fix the nation), and he’s not different enough from Obama to beat him. What we need in a candidate is someone whose strong leadership contrasts against Obama’s lack of leadership, whose strong conservative convictions contrast against obama’s wushu washy liberal leanings, and whose ability to speak without a promoter contrasts against Obama’s inability to order a pizza without a prompter. As far as I can tell, the only candidate that fits that bill right now is Herman Cain.

Newt wants to talk down to everyone about what to do and that’s just a bit too high-minded for me. He seems to be one of those people that can’t get behind anything that isn’t his idea. I’ve worked for a few people like that and they are EXTREMELY tedious people.
Besides his now absurd political point of view, every time he opens his mouth it sounds like he’s yelling at a bunch of kids to get off the grass. ZERO on politics, ZERO on demeanor. Next…

My goodness I never thought this would ever happen, but I disagree with Jim. Newt can not be treated like a conservative anymore simply because he isn’t, and I’m not sure he ever was. After the contract with America, Newt went all wobbly and was forced out by his own party. He not only gave up the Speakership he also resigned from congress. The conservative majority in the house got sick of him making them all look stupid. Why then after a stupid answer to a question that should have been avoided simply by Newt saying, I don’t agree with the premise of your question. Simple and to the point, but no he had to play politician and pander. Same old Newt but we are wise to you elite owners of the country class.

So someone has to know who the guy was that confronted him.
My question, is he a true conservative that basically telegraphed my thoughts or is he some liberal shill just trying to play to the “AbcCbsNbc” media for fodder in a future advertising campaign?
Newt is a very bright man but he is first and foremost a politician, secondly he is a Republican. I’m kinda fed up with both politicians and Republicans. I have not ever knowingly voted for a Democrat in my life but with all of the “Non-Partisan” elections you never know what the hell you are voting for anymore in local elections. I just look for buzz words like “Sustainability” to at least give me a clue that they are full on leftists.
Full disclosure; I lived in Hawaii in 1980 and voted for John Anderson just so that he might get federal matching funds (He did). There was a zero percent chance that Reagan was going to carry Hawaii so it was a protest vote. It was the first presidential vote in my life and I am now ashamed that I didn’t cast it for Ronald Reagan.
Newt was done after he did the Nancy Pelosi global warming ad., Pawlenty was done after his idiotic stance on cap and trade, Huckabee was done just because he is Huckabee and all of the baggage he carried from Arkansas. I believe the man (Huckabee) is a true believer in Jesus Christ, but it think he is also a true believer in a bunch of other really bad big government things.
Trump never was real and I don’t even think he is a Republican. It doesn’t much matter at this point.
Allen West is the man, in every sense of the word – I see a George Washington moment here.
I love Sarah Palin and the ground that she walks on, Todd and I need to share some tuning tips on 2 stroke engines.
I like much of what I see from Herman Cain and it goes back to the time he destroyed Bill Clinton at the debate at KCTV in Kansas City. Clinton never saw that one coming, it was priceless.
Bachmann might be OK, i don’t know much about Mitch Daniels, I voted for Mitt in the last primary even though he had already withdrawn, he came in second in Kansas where I voted even having withdrawn a day earlier.
The rest of the pretenders, OK – you have had your 15 minutes and in the case of Ron Paul your 30 minutes. Rand I’ll pay attention to but Ron, just save your money for the next house race and have your place in Wickipedia, the Peter Principal has gotten you as far as you are going to go.

When Eye of Newt refused to back down on his endorsement of the horrid Dede, I knew Eye of Newt was not serious and did not/could not/would not understand the anti-big government, anti-RINO mood of the Republican Party in particular and the country overall.

Newt could’ve attacked Obama’s lack of leadership and his disasterous policies. He could have treated Ryan’s proposals with respect and maybe said that they were heading in the right direction. But he chose to be ‘loved’ by the MSM and so decided to attack Ryan’s proposals.
