UPDATE: Here’s the announcement.

Former governor Mike Huckabee is going to announce this evening on his show whether he is going to throw his hat into the ring and run for the presidency as the republican candidate.

(CBS News)

Last night he wrote an e-mail to his inner circle.

Tomorrow night (Saturday) I will announce the next step in my plans for 2012 during my show on the Fox News Channel. I would like to be able to call you or email you personally and in advance of the announcement, but due to the fact that the decision was not finalized until today and that I committed to Fox that I will absolutely not release it prior to doing so on the channel, that became impractical.

A lot of information and speculation was already rampant in the press today, and it frankly isn’t fair to you to tell you the details and then put you in the awkward position of saying you didn’t know (which at that point wouldn’t be true) or saying you did know, but couldn’t reveal or discuss it.

It was this afternoon before I could even get word to all of my own children and even now, the executive producer of my show and the staff and crew of the show don’t know and won’t until I actually do the final preparation literally minutes before I share the decision live Saturday night.

I will look forward to speaking with you soon and once I fulfill my sworn obligation to Fox, I will be free to discuss things that I can’t now due to promises to them and to some possible legal considerations of the announcement.

Many friends have said, “how can we help you in the decision?” My answer has consistently been, “Pray that I have clarity.” I have it and will share it Saturday night during the show. Please be patient if I don’t respond immediately to an email because I expect that once I pull the trigger Saturday night, things will get even crazier, as if that’s possible.

My heartfelt thanks for your friendship, prayers, and support,

Mike Huckabee

Will he or won’t he?

UPDATE…He’s not running. He says his “heart is not in it”.

UPDATE II: Surprise Donald Trump cameo appearance on Fox News immediately following Huckabee’s announcement. Trump congratulated him on his decision to not run. He wished Huckabee well.

  1. Will he or won’t he? I really don’t care. Sad, but true.

I’m one of those waiting for a proper candidate to come along. The current crop of likelies does little to inspire.

  2. Nice guy but mushy…just go away

  3. If he runs he will have the full support of the DNC during the primaries

  4. meh.

  5. Yuck Huck!

  6. Surprise Surprise Surprise …..Gomer is just waiting for that check Michelle Obama gave him to clear the bank. The scam commercials Gomer ran begging donations for healthcare repeal just did not raise enough free cash for him to fund a Presidential run. So unless McCain and the Obamas pay up he is out.. http://youtu.be/J6_1Pw1xm9U

  7. I say he won’t only because Mormon Mitt Romney has not made his case explaining away RomneyCare. If Romney looked strong, Huckabee would be right in there to screw up his chances just like he did back in 2008 when he allowed McCain to come back from the dead to gain the Republican nomination.

  8. Nice guy … not a contender.

  9. Who cares? He isn’t going to get the nomination anyway.

My wife sells advertising so if he decides to run at least keep things alive through Missouri and Kansas so that she can bank a commission on his PAC money.

    …Lee

  10. No.

  11. I feel sorry for him. He’s being strange.

  12. Huckabee would an excellent host at a Branson theater.

  13. Please, NO!

  14. Who cares if he runs…he wont win. Save your money Huck..we remember your food police crap with Bill Clinton.

  15. Don’t bother running in Iowa, Huckabee. I sincerely evaluated you when you were running in ’08 and planned on caucusing for you, but once I learned you were a fiscal and social progressive, and an intolerant fundamentalist revivalist, we caucused for other candidates. Even Fred got more votes than you did down here in southwest Iowa (and that was before people really knew who you were).

Stick with the TV show and speaking engagements. Eastern Iowa is too union blue to go for your fundamentalist Christian views, and western Iowa is too fiscally conservative with all of its educated small town folk.

  16. He’s running.

    *sigh*

  17. Jeeeezus. C’mon Huckabee it’s yes or no.

  18. Oh goody, four more years of Chairman Obama.

  19. I think if he planned to run, he would have lost the weight he’s picked up since 2008. I hope he doesn’t. We need someone with principles, not Huck.

  20. I would never vote for him anyway.

  21. Branson wins!!!!

  22. Whew….I thought it was a “yes” hence my previous comment

  23. Give him about three weeks for him to back somebody else, my guess is he’s going to back Pawlenty or Gingrich…

  24. America’s heart isn’t in it either. Enjoy the Florida mansion, and may you live happily ever after.

  25. The next Ronald Reagan is female, black, tough as nails, and smart as a whip.

    Draft Condi.

  26. I like to watch Huckabee’s program on Fox sometimes. He seems like a nice guy and he’s a good tv show host. But I’d never want to vote for the man. I’m glad he’s decided not to run. He should stay right there at Fox, doing what he’s been doing. He does it well.

  27. I didn’t think he’d run. He’s making big dough for the first time in his life. He’s building a new multi-million dollar home. It just didn’t make sense, but he kept polling well so I wasn’t sure until he played Cat Scratch Fever with Nugent.

Are you really going to play Cat Scatch Fever as an intro to announcing your candidacy?

  28. I expect that once I pull the trigger Saturday night, things will get even crazier, as if that’s possible.

Uuh, no, governor. You’ve just now pulled that “trigger” and we’re all simply very relieved. One big exhale. Now it’s on to better candidates. No craziness. No wailing and grieving.

    Sorry to disappoint you.

    Thanks for the laugh.

  30. Hooray!

  31. Huckabee is boring – no fire in that boy’s belly; at least he recognizes his heart isn’t in it.

  32. I have followed Huckabee for many years and I find him to be very principled. I have heard him speak, had the pleasure of shaking his hand, read some of his books, and have enjoyed his TV show. I really like the guy but this is going to be a fist fight of an election and I don’t think it is the right timing for him.

  33. Personally, I don’t see how Huckabee polled so well. I haven’t read anyone on line that supports him. And plenty of bloggers have been talking about him.

And I don’t like the way he handled this. He could have just come out like everyone else that has said no and said “No.” Instead, he pimped his program and strung people along like puppies.

  34. Yes, but why did Trump show up for the trailer? My money is on Trump, and this week Cirsi’s book is going to be released (Tuesday). So, look for Trump to pick up on the forged birth certificate, you know the one that was a photo-shopped PDF , not a jpg file, like it should have been if it had been scanned.

  35. Not running, thank goodness!

  36. Thank goodness, one less McCain-like RINO to worry about.

  37. absolutely no offence intended to religious folks…i trust that your beliefs compassionately inform your actions… and huckabee seems like a nice enough guy…BUT… i don’t really want a presidential candidate who wants to talk about what god is, or isn’t, telling him. talk to me about lower taxes, reductions in spending, smaller government, and the rights of the individual citizen to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (regardless of party, race, color, gender, sexual orientation, or any of that stuff) and then i will listen and consider you for our highest office.

  38. Whew…we dodged a bullet there…

  39. Whew, that was close. The last thing we need is another RINO.

Now, will a real, proven conservative please run!

  40. @Bobbi

You’re darn right it was photoshopped. You can go into any adobe program, and zoom in, and there are multiple instances of various characters that are repeated pixel-for-pixel in various places in the document. The check boxes in the “twin/triplets” fields repeat pixel-for-pixel. If you look at the signature “(Stanley) Ann Dunham” closely while zoomed in, you will notice that the first half is an ink signature from a scan, and the second half is computer generated. This is evident in the fact that the first half of the signature shows a gradient of colors, whereas the second half is solid black in every pixel.

There is lots more evidence, but I don’t have the room to cite it here.

  41. Good rddance to bad rubbish. He’s a RINO terd being passed.

    Powder is dry
Today is GA. Vote on deligates.
A bigger piece of excrement I have never seen.
Bad juju same old terd candidates.

Respectfully a republican candidate from Carroll county .

  42. On next week’s Huckabee program, old Huck will announce whether he will go for a sex change. Not even his hairdresser knows the answer.

  43. You know what really sucks? What we need the VERY VERY VERY MOST, is PRINCIPLED candidates. We have none. Huckabuck is PRINCIPLED. But he’s not CONSERVATIVE.

We need to find someone to FIGHT FOR US!!

  44. 1st Can I get an AMEN now that Shmuckabe isn’t running
    @ ssb627

    Draft Condi.
I would vote for Condi Rice in a nano-second…

Impeccable Credentials… She had the largest set of any one in the Bush White House.

Black, Female & never been married (Log cabin Republican?) she could be to Obama what Garlic is to a Vampire.

  45. Don’t worry, folks. There will still be craziness.

We’ll still have a whole circus troupe contending for the Republican nomination:

Ron Paul. “The Rent is Too Damn High” guy. Newt. A few phony “Tea Party” infiltrators. Some leftist socialist infiltrators pretending to be Republicans.

And, if we’re extremely lucky, Allen West or SOMEBODY who is conservative, AND (big IF there….) can debate and win, all without pulling a McCain and “taking a dive”.

Not very hopeful unless West throws his hat into the ring.

If he does, THEN we have a chance.

  46. #44 I would also vote for Rice if she ran.

  47. #43….what have you been asleep? Palin is one fo the most principled people in naitonal politics today.

  48. Wow. He’s not going to run. That’s the first indication that he might have what it takes to be President. And here I thought he was just another spineless, media seeking, Rino jackass. Who knew?

  49. NO…. Rice! And I am not racist! No “fire” in the belly.

  50. #47 Ditto

  51. I think that Lt. Col. Terry Lakin should run for president that sure would make the kenyan fraud poop in his pants. hehehe

  52. #48 jim m

“Wow. He’s not going to run. That’s the first indication that he might have what it takes to be President.

Good point! Too bad we couldn’t just draft a candidate.

  53. LOL Jim. An incredibly astute point.

  54. PALIN 2012…to save our country, G-d willing. The pundits, RINOs & MSM will not pick our candidates or write our narrative.

  55. Conservative to the core, a backbone of tempered American steel.

Condi, like most everyone here, truly believes in the ‘shining city on the hill’…

Four years of James Earl Carter got us eight years of Ronald Wilson Reagan. Certainly, four endless years of Barack Hussein Obama mmmm mmmmm mmmmm will net us a much greater reward.

Right now, Condi Rice is the only one I see with nothing to gain but much to lose, who sees and embodies the real America, the Marshall Plan America, the Berlin Airlift America, OUR America. Dammit.

It doesn’t have to be Condi, but who else have we got?

  56. Ladies and Gents. My brother was on Dr Rice’s Security detail for 2 years. And her first 6 months out of office, he was her Bodyguard and Driver, until her government protection ended.

She HAS NO INTENTION OF GOVERNMENT WORK…..AGAIN……EVER.

As you all know. I am CONSERVATIVE. My bro works for the STATE DEPT. Diplomatic Security. He is A-POLITICAL. He respects her immensely, but he has zero doubt that she is DONE with GOVT.

  57. SSBN. Very nice friend.

  58. I agree with Ginger (#49). She was fairly incompetent during her time as Secy of State. Rice should stick to playing piano, which she does very well.

  59. Thank you, Gus. And I’m sorry to hear it, but who could blame her?

  60. Redwine. How so? Condoleeza Rice was a very very very good Sec State.

  61. Can we draft Jim DeMint? Can you imagine DeMint/Bachmann or DeMint/West?
I know it won’t happen. But a gal can dream, can’t she?

  62. Btw Redwine, I was kind with my rejoinder to you, but WTF do you know about Dr Rice’s piano playing. If you want to decry her, bring something a little more beefy than a snark about her musical prowess.

  63. Redwine, I like West, I like DeMint, and I like Bachmann. I’d vote for any of them in a NY MINUTE.
I know it’s not in “style” to say it, but I’d vote for Sarah Palin without hesitation. But Condoleeza Rice is experienced, intelligent, competent, honest, principled, and is second to NONE in her love and abiding Patriotism.

  64. Several sources report Laura Bush has called Mitch Daniels’ wife Cheri to encourage her about running for the White House, telling her what it’s like living there, etc. The Bush family will not leave gracefully.

  65. Chili. The BUSH FAMILY …did leave gracefully. Several reports told me that you are a DOUCHE BAG. Please LEAVE GRACEFULLY.

  66. Good. Now jowly-Jesus won’t have to explain why he pardons cop killers and rapists.
His forgiveness was other people’s disaster.

  67. Sifty, we won’t have to hear him tell us what we CAN and CANNOT EAT….either.

  68. I’m glad that he chose not to run.

We need a stronger candidate to take on Obama.

  69. Few people have shown more class or grace than George W. and Laura Bush.

The top prize for a less-than-graceful exit would have to be claimed by the Clintons. But I’m betting BO and his belle will top this:

    Vandalgate:
Before leaving the White House, members of the Clinton administration, particularly the Vice Presidents office, are reported to have vandalized the Whitehouse as a “prank” on the incoming Republican administration. Democrats have tried to downplay this scandal and dismiss it as false, but the fact remains that several pranks did occur including the removal of “W” keys off computer keyboards. This prompted office supply companies to donate replacement keyboards and keys. Elsewhere the Clinton staffers wrote lewd messages on door nameplates and left their trash including pizza boxes (perfectly fitting for the Clinton administration) in the offices.

    Looter-gate:
Bill and Hillary Clinton left the Whitehouse with their pockets full – full of silverware, furniture, and pretty much everything else they could grab that wasn’t theirs. Included was a multi thousand dollar furniture set belonging to the interior department, which the Clintons had tried to claim as a gift before being forced to return it under pressure and outrage.

    Pardongate:
On the night before and morning of his departure from office, Bill Clinton made several controversial “midnight” pardons. Aside from pardoning political allies and scandal co-conspirators such as Susan McDougal, Henry Cisneros, and his brother Roger, Bill pardoned fugitive criminal millionaire Marc Rich. Rich was charged in the early eighties with several felony offenses but fled to Switzerland to avoid facing trial. Among Rich’s crimes were oil deals with Iran during the hostage crisis and ties to arms smuggling. Amazingly, Clinton completely disregarded pardon protocol in the Rich case and failed to properly inform many authorities in the justice department of Rich’s fugitive status. The story becomes more interesting considering that Marc Rich’s ex wife Denise, who fought for his pardon, is a close Clinton friend and DNC donor. Denise Rich gave $1 million in contributions to the DNC, $450,000 to Bill Clinton’s library fund, and $70,000 to Hillary Clinton’s senate campaign according to the Washington Times (2/22/00). The Rich pardon appears to be a political pay off and, though the president may constitutionally pardon anyone, it appears he abused his authority in a quid pro quo pardon in exchange for political donations. Clinton’s pardon of Rich has prompted criticism from even the most liberal Clinton defenders and several prominent Democrats. Former President Carter called the pardon “disgraceful” while Senator Tom Harkin and even Rep. Barney Frank criticized it!
But that is by no means all. Hillary Clinton’s brother Hugh Rodham was paid over $400,000 dollars for successfully fighting for pardons and commutations for criminals Carlos Vignali and Almon Glenn Braswell, two included in Clinton’s last minute pardons and commutations list. Upon the eve of this story breaking, Hillary and Bill denied any knowledge of Hugh’s involvement and, under pressure, called on him to return the money. Translation: they got caught.

  71. One of the happiest moments of my life will be when President Palin takes the oath, the pride of America, with her beautiful family standing behind her smiling.

She will save this country from the damage that has been done by the current evil.

  72. i really dont get most of you guys, here huck exits and this leaves a clear path for palin to the nomination, who believes to her core in the shineing city on the hill, has been the only person consistantly taking barky to the woodshed on a regular basis, has all but announced if youve been paying attention without formally doing it[madison speech, denver speech ,new very professional website and on greta the other night said it is too early to throw her hat in the ring, not that she was still thinking about it] has 3,000,000 supporters on facebook chomping at the bit and another 500,000 on twitter ,is one of us barbarians and not a elite and has 20 yrs in government. All of the above and the ability to fire up the base like no other yet some of you are wondering about people like condi who is not interested and never ran a retail political campaign or bolton[who is a very good man and who would make a great sec state and several others on your wish list, yet with all of this you wont even admit that of all the potential candidates that hucks withdrawl helps sarah the most and thank god for that ,NO RINOS

  73. (more for gus above–)Condi as Sec of State was on the same page as Obama w/ pandering to the Arab street..to deadly avail. She pressured our only stable & reliable ally in the Mid East,Israel, to relinquish the Philadelphia Corridor to Hams, resulting in Hamastan & a new weapons-heavy, terrorist base for Jihadist worldwide…she forced Israel to end the Lebanon war early, prior to an outright Israeli win, resulting in Hezbollah taking over Lebanon & quadrupling their Iranian-made missiles along the Lebanon/Israel border. She aligned w/ Powel over Rumsfeld & Cheney to coddle our enemies during the flawed second Bush term.

    Palin 2012…she unapologetically sides w/ our friends…no appeasement…pure guts & common sense.

  74. Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the Music!

    Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! Amen!

Thank You Lord for Answered Prayer!

One Less Dim Marxist Crossover Voter Magnet on the GOP Primary ballots.

    Thank You, Jesus!

  75. Good grief, Huck. You sure milked your announcement for all it’s worth. At least it was the right choice. Now, if you can just keep your mouth shut about Palin and the real conservatives who are in this race I would greatly appreciate it. Remember, if you can’t say something nice…

Oh, Ginger – I so love that! THAT is the BEST! Well, that and Sarah!

Sarah and Lt.Col. Terry Lakin Ticket ! EXCELLENT!

  77. I gave a lot of thought to my vote in the 2008 NH Primary and Huckster’s record simply doesn’t stand scrutiny. He is more frugal than Ă˜shama (as are most people), but leans toward excessive taxing / spending. He gave sanctuary to innumerable illegals (for “Christian charity?”) resulting in not only burdens to the AR taxpayers but the re-appearance of diseases not seen here for decades (leprosy being one IIRC). Then his utter credulity of pardoning hardened criminals who claimed to “come to Jesus.” He’s sincere, but he doesn’t belong in the WH.

The next Ronald Reagan is female, black, tough as nails, and smart as a whip.
    =========================

With respect folks, you need to research her impact on our foreign policy in the Middle East. As others have noted, the Foggy Bottom buffoons really snookered her & Powell, with the result they both harmed our efforts there (in Iraq, especially). Not deliberately, by any means, but that road paved by good intentions . . . .

I have enormous respect for her and agree with most of what you say, but she’s no Reagan. If she did run, she would be better than any of the dims and most of the current GOP crop, but one essential for the next President is immunity to the religion of peace â„¢ nonsense, and this is the ‘RomneyCare’ of her record.

I like Mr. Cain, but he’s more obscure than most and without the shameful cheerleading which led to the current community organizer fiasco, I can’t see him achieving wide enough name recognition to succeed. I think we’ve yet to see the winner declare candidacy.

  79. Ah yes, the babtist preacher who slandered millions of mormons, colluded with McCain to steal West Virginia from Romney and pardoned killers and rapists who went on to kill and rape again…It seems now that Huckabee has grown to love the spotlight, making money, and since he has re-aquainted himself with gluttoney there is just no darn good reason to serve the country…He has finally shown his true colors for the good of the country I might add…

  80. Thank goodness. Now if Romney will run for the hills we will have a better chance of getting a decent candidate.

  81. Excellent that he is not running. Very good news, indeed. Herman Cain is the man. I also see Condi’s name bantered around. She also would be good. I like Cain, though. I absolutely love Palin, but the MSM battered her image too much with America, sadly. Also, looks like Romney might be toast-yeah. Don’t like him. Go Cain 2012.

  82. while listening to the regurgitation of reasons huckabee won’t run – obama will be difficult to beat. what the jumpin’ gee hosefurrs [or however you spell it]?!!! there is a bigger picture in life that takes some people out of their comfort zone…..hence “killing the messenger”. as in that geico ad – there’s no money tree in the backyard and no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. there’s a fool born every minute…….

  83. Who cares about Trump’s appearance? It’s irrelevant.

Notice how Trump, and all other possible GOP candidates, the whole bloody lot of them, are completely silent about Nabka Day?

That’s all I need to know about all of them, every single one.

  84. #73 Don
I agree. I don’t think Romney even gets in. The establishment won’t get behind him. The inside the beltway croud will draft someone Daniels, Christie or even Jeb Bush. Then Sarah gets in and shakes up the good ole boys. A fight we need to have withing the Republican party or there will be a 3rd party going forward. Sarah is the only one that can take this fight to them and she’s all but spelled this out.

  85. With respect Iconoclast I think it is you who was snookered…
    Please follow my logic.
I don’t care what the premise, we now have troops in Iraq & Afghanistan. that’s known as a military cordon. (Not having troops in that part of the world was Jimmy Carters Achilles heel).
Bush should have stuck Saddam was harboring AQ Agents & violating UN Resolutions which he was true & used that for the basis of the invasion. But make no mistake the ultimate goal was to have our Military with in striking distance of Iran, so we could keep the Mullahs worried about our intentions.
    &
Milking the Sectarian Muslim on Muslim violence for 3.5 years before clamping down on it with the surge also caused me no tears. Almost like some one some where (NSA?) understood that every Muslim killed in sectarian violence was one we wouldn’t have to kill later on.

When it comes to foreign policy I tend to see the more nefarious aspects of it & think that is what I would be doing if I was waging this kind of war. Sectarian violence serves our end game quite well.

That’s just me & I’m a different breed of cat.

  86. We need about a half-dozen more lightweights, charlatans, and gutless wonders to drop out of the Republican race…Otherwise, we will likely have a repeat of 2008 where the casts of thousands wound each other to the glee of the media and democrats…Then, with the eyes of the American people already half-closed from boredom, the winner gets to the real fight against Obozo, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, the weather channel, the UAW along with every other union, every major newspaper editor, the Associated Press, Reuters, legions of DC pundits, and several foreign governments…

  87. thanks tru,yes any of the rest will wilt under the attcks of the msm and the left and to mikey what do you think the left will do with any republican candidate?there is a number of the establishment types that i beleive think they can run a respectful campaign ,son it aint going to happen ,to take barky down is going to require a street fight and the only person i see with the ability to give as good as she gets and not apoligize is palin.i personally beleive that none of the others can withstand what the msm will do and as far as sarah is concerned what more can they attemp to come up with?
once she is in and performs in a debate as well as i beleive she will a large part of the establishment talking points and the banter from the msm will be shown for what it is a lie,and americans on the most part dont like to be lied to.
dont beleive me about her performance in a debate setting then go watch her performance when running for gov in ak both against professional politicians.what i wish is that some of you would do is to wait until she is officially in the race and then judge her ,as myself and 3,000,000 others beleive in her strongly.

  88. Huckabee: “I will not seek the presidential nomination this year.”

    THIS year: 2011

    ELECTION year: 2012

Come primary season, he’ll announce he’s been “told” the country needs him to run.

In the meantime, he’ll have free reign on his Fox News campaign box, from which he’ll spent the next many months continuing his denigrating of those who’ve already – or may – announce. He’s not known as the “Huckster” for no reason.

  89. Huckabee NO. Romney won’t get the vote because he is Morman. We put a marxist in office, but won’t vote for a Morman. Palin will not get the vote because she doesn’t have the women on her side. Jealousy??? The press will also kill her chances. Newt No. To much baggage. I notice when they show the pictures of the candidates, they do not show Herman Cain. He is qualified, a true patriot, and has common sense. Watch him slowly gain in the pols. He will rise when he wins the debates. He is also the only person who can beat Obama. Cain and Rubio would be the ideal ticket.

  90. Huck Fukabee…he is an asswipe…time for the repubs to step up to bat and get things moving…or I fear 4 more years of the moo slum

  91. If Huck thought he could raise the money, he’d run. I like Huck and I think he’s basically a good man who wants the best for this country. I also think Huck is all about Huck and craves the limelight. I’ve never seen so much fanfare and attention-grabbing over an announcement NOT to run.

Frankly, there’s only X amount of conservative dollars to fund the run against the monsters in the White Hut. We don’t need to be wasting it on people like Huck and Romney and Paul and Gingrich, none of who can beat obastard. We need to find and get behind a solid conservative who can flush out the slime covering the executive branch. That means we need a small field of viable candidates to choose from. Right now we’re not even close to having that.

  92. For Meg at #90: People don’t like Romney because he’s a flip-flopping suede-shoe boy. Romneycare is a disaster. Even if he completely renounces it, which he hasn’t, I don’t want somebody that stupid running the country and using our money and lives for social experiments. It has nothing to do with him being a Mormon.

As for Herman Cain, great guy. I like him a great deal. He isn’t going to get the nomination because he has no political experience and no campaign infrastructure. He could NEVER beat oscumbag for those reasons. Never. Knowing something is good and right is not the foundation for success. It’s a reason to do something or want something or believe something, but the sole condition of knowing or wanting or believing does not get you to the goals posts. That takes knowledge, experience, hard, hard work and great organization. Cain has no political infrastructure. Having people believing in you and liking you is NOT remotely the same thing as having the political infrastructure and network needed for a successful campaign.

I think he’d make an excellent president, but his candidacy is a pipe dream.

  93. JW at #74, much as I admire, like and respect Condi Rice, I have to agree with your assessment.

  94. For Scott at #87. I agree with your analysis. But ‘pubs are renowned for shooting themselves in the foot. My other concern is the drain on limited funds. We need to save our $ for the big race.

I want to see Romney and Gingrich out fast. Right out of the gate, Gingrich attacked Paul Ryan who is the only person with the guts to step up to the plate and stick his neck out with a detailed, agressive financial recovery plan. Newt’s a brilliant guy but this was a huge mistake. He needs to just stick to history. If he wanted what’s best for the country and for conservatives, he wouldn’t have done that. To your point, what Newt did was feed the media some more garbage to use against conservatives, and that’s unforgiveable.

  95. Gus, Iconoclast, others
    all good points.

    Glad he’s out etc.

The point I want to make is this troubling trend toward seeking a black candidate. That is so what the Dems want. Look at 2008. Obama won, the GOP made Michael Steele chairman. The GOP is so stupid and always reactive, not proactive. Dem ad campaign 2012: “Wow, real original Republicans. Why is it always about race with you?”

Then there was the Jindal bandwagon. Then the Rubio bandwagon.
Now there is the Herman Cain bandwagon and the Allen West bandwagon. It’s so transparent. Let’s look at the field and find the most electable conservative (and we actually have a chance this time to get a very conservative person elected). Going out of our way to find a black, a woman, or a black woman shows how reactive and out of touch the GOP is. Let’s not fall into this trap.

Viable outspoken conservatives are Palin, Bachmann, DeMint, and a handful of others.
Let’s get behind them encourage them to run. The momentum is on our side. Gingrich should be excoriated by conservatives for his McCainish remarks on the Ryan plan (that does not go nearly far enough fast enough IMHO).

  96. @ Meg
I’m from Massachusetts Romney won’t get elected because he’s a proto-typically self absorbed politician who can never admit when he’s wrong…

Romneycare is a disaster. My health Ins. premiums have more than doubled since it came in to effect, Illegals still pay nothing . I voted for Mitt for Governor I won’t make the same mistake twice.

I will do what I can to make sure he’s not my candidate in Nov 2012.
