South Carolina liked the pizza man.
Herman Cain was the hands down winner in tonight’s first GOP debate in South Carolina.
At least he was according to the Frank Luntz South Carolina focus group.
Governor Tim Pawlenty and former Senator Rick Santorum also did well tonight.

Breakdown.
Herman Cain won the debate hands down. Concise, to the point and is a leader.
Rick Santorum, intelligent, moral and pretty dang likeable.
Ron Paul, his standard and consistent self. Knowledgeable about the economy, mistaken about national defense. He should think about one of my ideas about privatizing our military and make any country that wants us to help them, they pay. He must have never read my ideas I sent to him.
Tim Pawlenty, the cap and trade is going to be his downfall, otherwise I like him.
Gary Johnson, he broke Reagan’s 11th commandment and denigrated Sarah Palin, sorry he just lost in his first primetime showing. Did you hear the crowd’s gasp? Oh yeah he is DONE.

I like Cain for who he is, and just thinking strategy-wise… Cain as the nominee would completely nullify ANY use of racism accusations in the 2012 election. The left could not use the “anyone who opposes Obama is a racist” line, and it would be interesting to see how the black vote would shake out since ~98% went to Obama last time.

I like how Cain actually answered the questions directly.
Pawlenty NEVER ANSWERED ONE QUESTION DIRECTLY. Pawlenty ran his mouth and weasled around answering the questions like an injury lawyer. l
Other than Cain….the Liberals have to be laughing at us, with this 2nd tier group….and I don’t blame them.
I spent more time laughing at most of the group’s answers…instead of seeing a potential President. Made for good entertainment.
This is the FIRST time I have ever actually LAUGHED at this large of a Republican field….most of them were definately on the reserve team. Cain was the only one that answered questions directly.

Tips for the 1st tier GOP contenders, for when they debate: (things we didn’t see tonight, except Cain)
Tip 1: When asked a question….answer it directly and immediately…and explain clearly and concisely….
….DON’T do what Pawlenty, Paul, and Santorum did…and give an answer on stem cell research that sounds like a 1000-word-page out of the new ObamaCare Law.
Tip 2: Bring up the failed policies of Obama, as often as possible…and say the name “Obama” when doing it…
…this makes you sound more able and ready to be the GOP winner and take Obama on.
Tip 3: If giving a closing statement…stress the Government getting out of the way of businesses, getting tough on the border, getting tough with OPEC and China, and especially getting tough on fighting Terrorism without political correctness.

Tip #4: Promise to push for the Repeal, and not veto the Repeal of ObamaCare.
Tip #5: PROMISE TO FIRE EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION.
Tip # 6: Provide specific policy of MASSIVE CUTTING OF SPENDING AND DEBT.
Tip # 7: Promise a smaller, much less intrusive government that respects individual rights.
tommy mc donnell commented:
the presidency is not a learn on the job position. how would you know if herman cain would be a good president, you don’t even know if he would be a good councilman. a debate is no indication of anyone’s ability to effectively handle public office. all they are is TV events for ratings. a candidate for office has to be an effective administrator not an effective debater. they are not running to be a lawyer(by the way i think that should be a disqualifer for the presidency, especially if they are an ivy league lawyer). debates from the kennedy-nixon debates they have been nothing a way for the media to control who gets elected.
Proud American commented:
i was Very impressed with Herman Cain. I like that he OWNED a business (small business) in America, I have read his books and he is far fro ma liberal in his ideology, he kind of reminds me of Bill Cosby to the black community (stop blaming whitey for your problems and get off the government tit) i like that he is not knee deep in Washington, i am far too familiar with how republicans have lost grip with reality and America. I strongly think he would be an excellent candidate that not even the n.a.a.c.p., black panther party, secularist blacks could touch, so kudos to him and best of luck. So far i am not impressed with the republicans and this is giving me a smile on a real change within this party.

I personally don’t think any of the contenders on stage tonight stand a real chance at winning the GOP nomination.
What I thought was telling was that Pawlenty said that Huckabee is a good friend and that Huckabee agrees with him on almost every issue! One RINO to another’s kiss of death. The GOP is doomed if Huckabee wins…but I don’t think he will make it half way through the nomination process, if he runs.
In my opinion the strongest GOP contenders are Trump, Gingrich, Palin, and Romney, in that order.
For now…I’m sticking with Trump…unless the equation changes.

Does the Liberal media really think the American people are this stupid???
One thing that Glenn Beck and Barack Obama have in common, is that they BOTH helped to educate the American people on the need to get back to the founding fathers, and the Constitution.
I agreed with Glenn on most things, but not all things he covered on his program…and I think it is accurate to say that he helped to educate ALOT of Americans about politics, and how our country has veered so far away from our Constitution. Glenn did a great service there, and now is moving on in his life.

Cain, Paulenty and Santorum said nothing of substance tonight. If they get elected and Obama is no longer in office and they are not able to criticize him anymore, what will they do? Andrew commented:
#66 gus. Trying to understand what you tried to say in response to what i said is difficult. A coherent response is much appreciated – unless of course you just want to play a childish game of name calling.
But in response to your sarcastic “Obama isn’t the problem” comment i will say this: no he is not. Bill Clinton was responsible for failed economic policies that lead to the stock market crash which Bush had to deal with (he decided tax cuts). Bush was responsible for the housing bubble crash that Obama has had to deal with (he decided stimulus). Bush was full of inconsistencies with regards to the ‘war on terror’ just as Clinton was when he avoided Rwanda and Obama was when he has avoided Syria and Saudi Arabia. Clinton, Bush, Obama are all the same in their foreign policy approach, economic approach and to a large degree, domestic approach with just minor changes. So the problems isn’t Obama per se, he is merely an extension of years of failed policy which endorses the status quo of everything – i.e. if you want to blame Obama, then blame Bush and Clinton and the presidents who preceded them too because they are no different…and they should be blamed.
Ron Paul is different to them in every conceivable way and he is not the status quo. Just do the research and you will see that.
Debater commented:
I’ve got to agree with Andrew, the only people in that debate that said anything of substance or difference from the current establishment were Ron Paul and Gary Johnson. The rest of them just kept spewing talking points. Who disagrees? I’d love for someone to tell me something that Herman Cain said that wasn’t I don’t know but I’d have my experts tell me how to put together a plan.
Redpillpatriot commented:

Andrew commented:
#73 fishy – The problem i have is that no politicians want to address any of the real issues other than Ron Paul.
Yes there are some things that certainly raise eye brows, but he is the only one who not only addresses the symptoms of debts, but more importantly the root causes of the debts and frames the debate around these things. Things like the Federal Reserve, the philosophy of the role of the federal government, the overwhelming power of the president which is more reminiscent of an empire or monarch rather than a Repubulic, the non-sense of having troops in places like Germany and Australia and the other 150 countries they are in, the non-sense of spending billions upon billions destroying then rebuliding foreign countries and supporting them and their dictators while the people in America are neglected. These among many other things are serious issues.
The problem is that you hear people on the left go ‘Oh he is pro-life, well i can’t vote for him then’, and people on the right who say ‘Oh he wants the states to decide upon their own drug laws, well i can’t vote for him’.
And in the end, you’re left with a McCain or an Obama: people who appeal to their base, people who represent the status quo, but people who do nothing to address the real issues.
Kyle H. commented:
Herman Cain can never win because he opposes abortion even in the instance of incest or rape.
Independents that are women will never vote for him, and if half of independents dont vote for him, and unemployment gets down to ~8%, Obama will beat him hands down.
In addition he has no specific policy positions, his fair tax is an abomination and a fiscal destabilizer.
Talk about a candidate that could really ruin any republican’s chances of being elected to the Presidency…
Skitatarian commented:
I liked watching Pawlenty HAMMER on Ocommie with specific facts and obvious, direct conclusions. In politics, anybody who states the obvious rather than weasling around has leadership skills. I think his candidacy will grow stronger, and I would not be surprised to learn that his campaign has a solid infrastructure. He’s a good executive.
Santorum did well in what he had to say, and I’ve always liked him. But I think he presented as nervous, angry and a bit petulant. He should work on his manner. When he’s interviewed on Fox, he comes off as warm and friendly. Tonight he didn’t. I give him an A- on content and a C on presentation. He’s capable of better.
Ron Paul was Ron Paul – broken record and dead wrong on his overall national security position. On healthcare, i understand he wants to sell his own plan on tort reform, but since he can’t get his bill passed, he shouldn’t withhold his vote for the other plan that has a chance. He may not like its foundation because HE thinks it doesn’t conform to the constitution, but something has to be done about the &^%@!*% lawyers. Pauls’ problem is that he’s not an effective politician inasmuch as his stoicism prevents him from fully grasping reality. That’s not to say he doesn’t have a good understanding of many issues and some good plans. But he needs to come down to earth if he wants to break out. Tonight tells me he will once again remain a back-bencher. But I’m afraid he might be pissed off enough and actually be able to raise the money to run on another ticket. That would be a disaster.
I like Gary Johnson, except that he’s pro-abortion. Although I have a very strong libertarian streak myself, I could never vote for him for that reason and because his pro-gay stance. As a matter of fact, I think there’s a strong possibility that he, himself, is gay. That’s fine, except that homosexuals with power tend to use it to advance what is, finally, a personal issue. But he’s a smart, low-key guy who does get things done. He was perfect for a laid-back, “don’t hassle/tread on me” state like NM. I was embarrassed for him tonight. I think he’s done.
Hermain Cain was, hands down, the break-out candidate. His direct, friendly, down-to-earth manner was refreshing. He’s a delightful man, genuinely nice, and I’m very happy that he did so well. He demonstarted a solid and sophisticated grasp of the issues. He is grounded in reality and simplicity. I believe he won the night. I’ve seen him interviewed by Cavuto many times. He did not disappoint. Interestingly, he was the most relaxed of the five and yet he has little formal political experience. I’m looking forward to seeing how he holds up as the pressure and pace of the race gets amped up, such as the press starts picking him apart and hammering him and black Americans start calling him “Uncle Tom” and House n—-r.” As long as he does well, they’ll be after him BIG TIME. But I think he can take it.
That’s my take.
Skitatarian commented:
Fishy @73 – I don’t think there is a candidate except yourself that can satisfy you. You should put together a campaign or else find a realistic candidate, imperfect as he or she may be, and get behind him/her 100%.
There is nothing bad that can be said about any of them that even remotely approaches Ocommie’s evil ways. We have to get him out of the White House even if it means electing Elmer Fudd.
It will soon be time to fish or cut bait.

Cain was an impressive speaker.
He is also a former Robert Dole Advisor and is a Federal Reservist.
And for me, the two things absolutely cancel out the one thing.
Of course, Ron Paul and Johnson were nuts. Pawlenty and Santorum are both more than slightly RINO. Pawlenty is so deep into McVain…
All of them at one point or another said “The Right Thing”…
None of them will get my vote.
My personal assessment of Cain is that most of his supporters are thrilled to see the potential of neutralizing The Race Card.

Happens that Gary Johnson and Ron Paul both heartily support legalization of illegal and mind-altering drugs. I’ve seen too much in my small town too close to the border of Mexico to ever consider any candidate of that bent – and I’m sure it is the basis of Ron Paul’s 1960′s model youth cult following.
It is unhealthy, and destructive to the Community.

Of all the sorry excuses a McCAINITE could use to support McCain’s SHAMNESTY BILL – trying to cloak it in a FALSE Christianity, while stealing from American Citizens, Jeopardizing American Citizens – moving your neighbors’ boundaries – supporting Marxist policies of blood-leeching the Life out of American Citizens…. he might be a wolf in shepherds’ clothing – but he ain’t a minister of the Gospel, “former” or not! Its crucial for Herman Cain or any Black Republican candidate to successfully counter the beat-down, entitlement mantra of the Democratic Party and their “messengers” like Jackson, Sharpton and far too many others in the Black clergy.
He must convincingly show them a way out and up. Funny though, Obama promised to “lift” up the Black community, but has done nothing….they still support him overwhelmingly. Break that bond and you will prevail.

I would take any of the debaters last night over our current President.
President Obama had very little experience as a statesman, and probably none as a businessman or military leader, prior to the 2008 election, and the 2.5 years since that time have not helped much. I will say that he has gained a good bit of yardage for the progressives’ leftist cause, and they will fight tenaciously to hold it, but that is a negative.
It would please me to have a President Cain take the oath of office in 2013.

Can you imagine the debates? For the Presidential debate, two quiet, measured contestants: President Obama thoughtfully laying out plans that never have worked and still don’t work, and Governor Pawlenty thoughtfully laying out plans that work quite well.

It would be nice to have an AMERICAN black president!

Pawlenty and Santorum were by far the best in the debate. They showed real courage in addressing the issues and the wrongness of the policies in place by the current administration. Any candidate who hopes to win in 2012 has to be able to confront boldly and unappologetically the issues of the ecomony, defense, unions, etc and present plans to address these issues.
President Obama now has a record of ill-advised policy decisions which have resulted in a diminished qualty of life for small businesses and middle class citizens Addressing them with real strategies will be in the Republican’s best interest
Stay away from personal attacks. Not necessary.

I agree. We need an American in our White House, of which Herman Cain is one.

That may be the first thing you’ve posted at GP with which I totally agree.

Did you mean vote their conscience? Or did you mean that only those not conscious could vote for Barky?
