Republicans said the same thing in early to mid-1991 after the first Gulf War, too. Ironically, the 1992 Democratic candidates were considered sub-par, much like the 2012 Republican candidates, so there are other similarities between the two elections 20 years apart.
This type of analysis by these two clowns, as well as other Obama supporters I’ve read today, ignores the dynamic aspect of the political environment. Although the vast majority of Americans, including I, are very happy about the demise of Bin Laden and believe Obama deserves credit with a whole host of others who made this happen, it will only be one of many issues that will impact the 2012 race. If the economy is in similar shape to what it is today or even worse or there are some other foreign policy events in which Obama performs poorly, the killing of Bin Laden will have a minimal impact on people’s votes in 2012.

Unfortunately for Obama, he is counting in the American public to take his word for it that the individual killed was Osama bin Laden and that the “DNA comparison to members of his family” was performed correctly. Two days ago, people weren’t walking around thinking “man that Osama, he’s sure causing me a lot of problems.” They were thinking “man the price of a fill up just keeps getting higher.” The Osama killing will give a brief boost, but a dead Osama doesn’t create jobs or lower gas prices (or the prices of every good whose price is influenced by gas prices). If things don’t improve, an 18-month-dead Osama is not going to help get Obama re-elected. Their immediate woes will be what people take into the voting booth.
Obama has promised America less drilling, higher energy prices, and bankrupted industries (coal), along with policies that will cause similar damage through unintended consequences.
If Osama’s death is really such an election factor for Democrats, maybe Republicans should nominate the soldier who shot him in the face.

As much as I want to believe that Osama is indeed dead, there’s small voice telling me to be wary. Obama doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to the truth, and a few things seem suspicious. When Saddam and his sons were killed, as well as other top targets there were pictures and details, but with Osama we’re being asked to take on faith that he’s dead. His body was quickly disposed of, by a burial at sea no less, without the useful idiots in the media or our military allies confirmation. I really want to believe, but I’m just not sure yet.

Osama is dead. The euphoria will not last long enough to over-ride the price of gas, unemployment and record deficit. Bummer for Obama is that the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 is this year, not next. And it is going to bring President Bush to the forefront. If the economy continues to tumble like it is right now, people are going to be very nostalgic about the days of having President Bush in the WH.
People need to be reminded over and over again that it was the policies of President Bush who brought us to the success of yesterday. Obama should be given credit for not screwing it up.
