“‘There but for the grace of God go I,’ we say to ourselves, and so we contribute to programs like Medicare and Social Security, which guarantee us health care and a measure of basic income after a lifetime of hard work; unemployment insurance, which protects us against unexpected job loss; and Medicaid, which provides care for millions of seniors in nursing homes, poor children, and those with disabilities,” Obama said. “We are a better country because of these commitments. I’ll go further – we would not be a great country without those commitments.”

This guy doesn’t even pretend that he’s not a socialist anymore. He’s just out in the open with it.

    Funny, somewhere along the line I was of the opinion we WERE a great nation before the socialist/progressives took over. Or was I wrong? Did everyday Americans not cross the Rockies in covered wagons, moving to areas where grubbing out a living was a 365 day endeavor? Or was the telephone, the telegraph, the automobile and the electric light bulb all discovered after socialist social engineering tactics were in place.

    Ask a liberal how many people actually starved to death during the Great Depression and watch the blank look on their faces, or they will say “millions” not knowing the answer. Ask them how many people died during the Great Dust Bowl. It was not the redistribution of wealth that made is now live longer than our grandparents ever dreamed. It was the free market investing in R & D (you know, those evil drug companies) that give us extended life spans.

    Oh, and the next time some liberal points out what a great deal Social Security was, ask them what the original age of retirement was for the SS plan and what the age expectancy was for a white male in 1935. $10 will get you $20 they don’t know.

    There has never been a redistribution scan promoted by Democrats that wasn’t based on lies.

Take away wealth redistribution, and Obama doesn’t see anything “great.”

    If everyone went to college, overall education would probably decline and degrees would become useless.

    I’ll explain. First, the second part shouldnt really need much explanation anyway – if everyone has something then that something is just common and becomes an indication of the normal, not of significance.

    On the education decline part, you have to factor in the unintended consequences. Things like lack of space to house the gigantic influx of students. All of a sudden you would have to open more schools (thinning out the teachers pool) and expand class sizes (thinning out the teacher/student interaction). This of course would mean higher running costs (esp if they are union employees) and since most people don’t go because they can’t afford college, it will come at the expense of tax payers. Your taxes would have to go up, but there is no way to really ever cover it all so we would also have to reduced standards – similar to what has happened in our K-12 education. Now, since people will have the option of the free/super-cheap Government education, and since everyone will end up with degrees making them less valuable, current colleges would probably need to reduce costs to compete as well – resulting in lower standards there too; though they will continue to receive the upper-class students, and will function similar to current private K-12 schools. Then, also similar to what has happened in K-12, we will have to dumb-down higher-education to appease those who learn at slower rates and/or don’t take schooling serious.

    Eventually, everyones college-level education would be decreased, with the rich just less affected because of their cash. And while everyone would theoretically (not necessarily practically though) have a slightly higher education level then they currently do, having a degree would no-longer make it easier to find a job – just like having a High-School degree has become just an expected for almost all jobs at this point. If the higher-education provided was based on basics classes and since the education level of them would be lower, people also would be unlikely to produce many more ideas to help society. And because of the much-higher cost burden which would have to be put on everyone, the gap between the rich and poor is likely to widen as the lower classes will struggle to pay their share. Then, eventually, people will stop appreciating the education; the quality will go down more to try to keep people interested and costs will go up as students keep becoming even harder to teach and control. It would become another chore-like situation, just like K-12 is for most, and people will pay less and less attention over time.

    But its all a pipe-dream anyway since we can’t even come up with a way to get kids graduating HS at a positive rate with any real comprehension. In fact, here in CA, there are places where the graduation rate is in the low 40-high 30s while most aren’t proficient in even basic reading and math. Its the same results always experienced when something special becomes socialized or the expected norm – people stop appreciating it and overall quality goes down.

    There was a time when everyone had to learn basics on their own to provide for themselves, while only the rich or lucky really got much of an education. Then, to be “fair”, everyone was given the “opportunity” to get education; so the quality tanked while interest similarly plummeted. All the while, costs get out of control and dependence slowly replaces the initial intent of more production. And in the end, people are less educated and more dependent then they were when it all started – read the more popular books from different points in history and you can see the regression in peoples thought process.

    Doesn’t he realize these entitlements were implemented from FDR onward?
    So is Obama saying we were not a great nation from 1776 until 1933? Only after these Socialists programs were implemented did we become great? Really, Obama?

    Paranoia is a really sad thing. This President has not lied, has not deceived, and has been straight with the American people from the start. You are not telling the truth when you say “In the United States there is great deference paid to the occupant of the
    White House.” Since before this man was even nominated by his party the Right Wing attacks and lies about him have been incessant. You accused him of “palling around with terrorists” yet he has done more to keep this nation safe FROM terrorists than the previous administration ever did. You accused him of “wanting to take away everyone’s guns” and two and a half years later, when nothing of the kind has even been suggested, you continue to repeat the lie. You call him a “socialist” and a “communist” and yet you refuse to acknowledge that nothing of the kind is happening. You accused him of creating “Death Panels” when the facts are that he has ELIMINATED them. You even accuse him of lying about his own birth, when a mountain of evidence to the contrary has proven you wrong for three years. And as far as the economy, you have seen with your own eyes the harm that endless tax cuts for millionaires has caused and you have seen the devastating attacks from the Right on the rights of individual Americans, yet you actually support those who are taking your rights from you and attacking the man who stands up for those rights.

    And the worst part is the racism you people on the Right throw into every discussion of every issue. It is not the President who “relies on his skin color to intimidate, either outright or by insinuation, those who oppose his radical agenda”, it is you who rely on HIS skin color to lie, attack and insult.

    None of you even listened to what the President had to say about our economy. You attack one of the most honest and straightforward statements any President has even given the American people. You cannot point to a single lie in the entire speech, yet without even listening you attack. You actively campaign against your own interests and attack the man who protects those interests for you. You turn a blind eye to people like John Boehner who would hold YOUR rights hostage in order to feed their corporate masters. You fantasize about “the evil George Soros” yet you ignore the reality of the corporate takeover of the Republican Party.

    You don’t give a damn about “the welfare of the American people”. If you did you would not be playing the Haters game. Use your minds. Think for yourself. GROW UP already.”
