Fox News reported -

A U.S. appeals court ruled Friday that the Obama administration can use federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, a decision that overturns a judge’s order last year and hands the White House a major victory.

In a 2-1 decision, the court said that opponents of taxpayer-funded stem cell research are not likely to succeed in a lawsuit to stop it.

The ruling reversed an opinion last August by U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, who said the research likely violates the law against federal funding of embryo destruction.

  1. Nice to know that all that fetal debri resulting from those women punished with a baby will go to good use. //////

  2. Because embrionic stem cell research absolutely, positively must be funded via the federal government rather than what is already legally permissible by private parties.

  3. What’s this 1 judge and 3 judge BS?

  4. This makes me angry. Because as if we weren’t already losing money on every po-dunk scheme liberals could dream up, now we have to fund nothing, because embryonic stem cells do not work towards curing diseases. Adult stem cells do, but we don’t hear about those.

If embryonic stem cell research is so promising, where are the private investors?

January 2012 will either be the end of a big freaking error, or the beginning of a bigger one.

  5. This is remarkably good news. Just think of the reduction in the Federal deficit we’ll achieve by eliminating all those expensive salaries of Congresspersons and their staff. With decisions like this, we merely need an Enlightened Executive and his Court to impose law and instruction upon the masses. And this doesn’t even factor in the savings at the state and local level, where Federalism’s demise has long rendered these parasites meaningless. One law, one strong imperial nation, and one judiciary to condemn and punish those who fail to obey is all a great Progressive nation requires.

Light the torches and let the marches begin!

  6. I am wondering would the pro–tax funded embryonic research commenters on the article at the link (the majority, it seems) feel the same if it were, say, an unborn puppy being used for spare parts. Soylent Green is…dinner, apparently.

  7. Let me see if I understand the logic here.
Destroying embryos using federal funds illegal.
Paying to destroy embryos to use their stem cells is not illegal.

    Wtf.

  8. Lady Liberty:

Will you please, Please, PLEASE change that headline to read Embryonic Stem Cell Research?

Seriously, the whole “stem cell research” thing was a political football for the left, who ALWAYS headlined and claimed that conservatives wanted to ban STEM CELL RESEARCH, when the debate was actually over embryonic stem cells. Remember, we’re trying to counteract an insidious and false narrative about a whole host of issues, and using lefty language in one of your headlines is NOT a good move.

Thank you, Don Rodrigo for pointing out that very important distinction.

Very simple Gus — and I’ll bet you’re way ahead of me: The left sees people as a commodity, not as free, individual humans. The exaggerated “promise” of embryonic stem cell research would enable the progressive elite to lead much longer and healthier lives than the rest of us (IF the medical breakthroughs will happen), because nationalized health care will prohibit the use of expensive, advanced treatment for the majority. Only special secret clinics for the leadership will have these advanced cures available to them.

  10. Meanwhile this is happening as well: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/04/29/never-let-a-good-crisis-go-to-waste-tornado-deaths-blamed-on-lawmakers-opposed-to-climate-legislation/

Stem cell research? Got no problems with that myself. Remember the guys who secretly dissected bodies so that they’d get knowledge about human anatomy, which was outlawed by the rulers and the church? Same thing.

  11. It was about time. This is excellent news.

  12. The bottom line is that even in countries, like Great Britain and France, where embryonic stem cell research IS legal, there has been no remarkable medical advances to come from that research. #4 is right; the only medical/scientific advances to have come from stem cell research have ALL come from adult cell research.

This is just another way for the left to dehumanize humans.

  13. Must justify abortion and make people feel better about it. Plus government funding for friends is nice and essential to relection stash.
Does anyone know, is this purgatory or hell?
Oh well, it doesn’t matter because:
They’re coming to take me away, Ho-ho
    Hee-hee-haa-haa
    To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I’ll be happy to see those
Nice young men in their clean white coats and
They’re coming to take me away, ha-ha!

  14. retire05, one problem. The fetusses are already dead.

    That leaves two options

    1) throw them away
    2) use them for something that can, potentially, be useful

    I’m going for #2.

  15. Andrea K, they are not yet “fetuses”. An embryo has not made it to that stage yet. And no, they are not “dead”. They are in animated suspension due to being frozen.

but hey, why not let science take us to the point where we are no longer a “human” society? Just a bunch of clones that are ruled by the politburo.

  16. The reason that embryonic stem cell research was such a big cause for the Left was that they saw it as a way to sanctify abortion. Abortion kills babies, a truth avoided by the Left, but if in the process of a few of those abortions, some medical advance fell out, then the moral tables would be turned. Those who oppose abortion could be accused of being heartless and unethical because they did not want to cure Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s or some other disease. The issue has faded because researchers now can do with adult stem cells what they previously could only do with embryonic stem cells. Science never was the issue in the political debate–it was all about the justification of abortion.

  17. California government has already wasted 3-5 billion (which we couldn’t really afford to begin with) on this kind of research. If there was real potential private research would be interested.

BTW, many of the embryos are created via cloning not ones which “would go to waste anyway”.

  18. Oh good! Now they can clone more Libtards

  19. All of the major advances in stem cell research have come from non-embryonic stem cells.

IIRC Bush did not ban embryonic stem cell research, he just didn’t let it expand.

  20. KR #17 – Created via cloning? I’ve never head that before. Just out of curiosity, how do they ‘create’ the clones?

Hey FarRight #11, are you crazy? Even if you don’t agree that life begins at conception, even you should be able to realize that this is another giant waste of taxpayer money. I guess we’ll have to borrow that money from China and invest it in a black hole, because NOTHING has come out of embryonic stem cell research.

  21. Thanks for the headline change. And Wodun is correct: there was no “ban” on embryonic stem cell research. The embryonic research was restricted to existing lines of embryos.

The entire leftist narrative on this subject is a lie.

  22. From what I read we don’t need embryos anymore. any stem cell can be made to perform to that standard.
This is kabuki from thealinsky model, to use middle-classvalues against the middleclass. to confuse and anger the middleclass.
Like npr-funding or the cpb fundting or the PP fundign the leftys love to have the middleclass pay for their goofy killer programs. I bet the sit around and laugh and laugh at what fools we are.
But we have one hand clapping. No “Other Party” to rebut. the gop has given up and surrendered.
The candidates are not saying a thing. Palin is the exception,Backmann gets no coverage, tho speaks out.

  23. #20,
My error. As far as I know by briefly looking for more info., federal funding for human cloning has been banned since the 90′s.

  24. KR #23 – Okay, thanks for clearing that up. I just wondered because I hadn’t heard about it being done before.

  25. #10
“Remember the guys who secretly dissected bodies so that they’d get knowledge about human anatomy, which was outlawed by the rulers and the church? Same thing.”
    ——-
I usually agree with you, Andreas K., but these guys didn’t rack up millions and billions of tax payer money to do their research.

  26. Well in 5 years and $50 billion dollars they will final realizes that they could of spent that money on a weather machine research to control the weather. Both embryonic and weather machines have about the same chance of working from fed funds.

They can pay for the public embryonic research by taxing private and successful Adult stem cell research.

  27. The Progressives have to justify abortion at any cost.

  28. Insanity (def.): doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome each time.

#15 nohype hit it on the head.

Embryonic stem cell research has yielded nothing but pain and/or death so far. It has soaked up millions and millions of research dollars that would be better spent extending the triumphs of adult stem cell research which HAS produced positive results.

This is just one more example of government keeping a zombie alive for no good reason. It’s a fund raiser for the incompetent. If there was anything to that line of research it would be getting all the cash it wanted from private investers, much like the adult stem cell research.
