President Barack Obama took credit for the talks tonight that averted a government shutdown.
He also lectured America on “living within our means.”
CNN reported:

“Like any worthwhile compromise, both sides had to make tough decisions and give ground on issues that were important to them,” Obama said before cameras in the White House Blue Room as he acknowledged some of the cuts agreed to would be painful, with certain programs cut back and other projects encountering delays. “But beginning to live within our means is the only way to protect those investments that will help America compete for new jobs,”

Of course, Obama didn’t want to cut a dime from the budget that he increased by a trillion dollars in the last three years.

And, just so you know…
Barack Obama tripled the national deficit in his first year in office. In his second year the deficit was again a record $1.29 Trillion. This year the deficit will be even higher.

This chart was updated to reflect the recent news that the deficit this year will reach $1.6 trillion. (The Captain’s Comments)

Obama’s the last person on earth who should be lecturing anyone on living within their means.

  1. Maybe Obama now agrees with Ryan’s budget?

  2. Glad I turned the sound off when his ugly mug popped on during the news….ugh…

  3. Talk about “the audacity of hope” shall we?

There’s a Yiddish word for shocking audacity: “chutzpah.” The oft-repeated defining example is the case of a man who murders his parents and then pleads for mercy on the grounds he is an orphan.

  4. Obama talking about “living within our means” is like a morbidly obese person telling you what you can or cannot eat while chowing down on one of several Big Macs.

  5. This site uses this graph time after time.
    Problem…

Bush years don’t contain war costs that were NOT on budget.
    Add 200 Billion per year.
09 budget was Bushes. Including the 750 Billion Corporate Welfare Bank RIP OFF.
there is work to be done, but if you look at the chart,
we Never paid off the great Reagan debt.

STOP using this bull crap chart.

Historical fact is nothin that ever worried Neocons.

  6. OCCrock is back, never defending himself. Instead, it likes to play Sir Robin on the innertubes and ‘Run away!’ Why don’t you just piss off there Crock?

Or maybe you want to detroy that First Amendment a little more, hmmm?

A crock so full of it like you are talking about historical facts is, well, hysterical.

  7. Boehner blimked!

Well its apparent that the Obama administration is can accomplish this deficit spending with the help of the Gutless Old Parasites…

Shutdown avoided, White House, Congress cheer deal

Boehner said the agreement came after “a lot of discussion and a long fight,” and he won an ovation from his rank and file, including the new tea party adherents whose victories last November shifted control of the House to the GOP

    Pretty damn disgusting!

  8. Well, what compromises were made? I hope we don’t have to wait for them to spend it to find out what they spent it on.

  9. Slightly off-topic: My first thought was that Limbaugh is right again! He called it a few days ago when EVERYONE thought there was going to be a shutdown. I rarely doubt him but when stuff like this happened my conclusion is that he has very close confidants in high positions.

  10. 0bama:

Let me be clear, Americans should live within our means… Just like Barney Frank, Michael Moore… I am not really American so I don’t have to. Ha ha!

Which also means my gross spending will continue… until the Gross Domestic Product is spent several times over.

Let me be unambitious, I have tripled the national deficit in just one year. That is a new record! Hence, the Taxpayer must pay more!

My limousine is guzzling expensive gas and I have a meeting with Barney Frank and George Soros. You know who is going to pay the tab… the stupid Taxpayer!

I don’t know why anyone would want to be a Taxpayer when one could just join the government and spend other people money! And, when that money runs out just pile on the debt. Screw the Taxpayer! Good day.

  11. This is what Obama does. He votes “present” as all the tough decisions are being made. Then when the outcome presents itself, he swoops in and claims that this was his idea all along. Complete and utter BS.

Then the MSM explains to us that this isn’t lack of leadership, this is a “style” of leadership he has “chosen”. Ok, if this isn’t lack of leadership, what WOULD lack of leadership look like? Right.

  12. Ocrock, the ’09 Budget belongs squarely to the Democrats who had total control of the legislature – both houses – to the point that they did not require a single Republican vote and refused literally all input on anything.

  13. Eliminating the Secret Service saves $1.5B. Everyone loves Obama. What could possibly go wrong?

  14. Remember, Obama is the “cool dude”. Obama is “No Drama Obama”. and the Presss loves how he sticks it to the middle class. He is the ‘dick-on-campus’ in your Hidh school days:the kid who’d make faces behind teachers’ backs, who’d glue the books shut or the drawer shut and you knew he did it…He is the kid your mom didn’t want you around, He is the kid -Eddie Haskell from TV sitcom days-polite to parents face and then Heh heh heh later.
Like the Montage that Rush uses, we should pick off a few of the press and list their fawning questions, and all the laughter…
Remember also that most Americans do not know anything about Van Jones or the Union influence and a whole host of topics. My friends say, ‘why isn’t this on ABC, or in the Local Paper?

  15. Obama is a jerk. And ALL his followers are either lazy, dumb or cheats. They want everything for FREE! SHow me the money—we Americans owe it to them. I wish they would all move to IRAN or YEMEN. He is such a liar–all he does is take vacations and show his skinny behind!
Look what he did to our farms, our oil, or economy!!!

  16. Chris #4…..You do know you’re talking about the first lady dont you ?
Did i say lady ? Sorry go ahead and replace “lady” with the word of your choice….

  17. Throw.
    Them.
    All…

    .. out of office.

From The First Fraud- to the lowest school board member in your town.

Start all over again- and if the new crew doesn’t work any better, do it again. Until you get a better band of thieves.

  18. Tis always a great honor to be lectured thus by the Grand Caliph Iman Baraq Hasan al-Bama ibin Qadhafi, peace be upon him, no?

  19. Obama’ credibility would be improved by saying nothing

  20. Jim,
You (or the Tea Party groups) should start a “Living Within Our Means” write-in campaign, where folks send a letter or an email to their congressional representatives and senators, along with a copy to the WH, with tables that show what their personal family budgets look like today. Tables that demonstrate how they’ve cut back, what people have eliminated from their budgets and lives, their children’s lives.
Time to show The Great Pretender what average, everyday American’s financial lives look like. Also, sending copies to each representative/senator, along with the WH, will help prevent the WH from picking and choosing what fits their dialogue and agenda.
Just a thinking out loud up here in northern fly-over Heaven ;o)

  21. Shawnet is right. As Margaret Thatcher said, “first you win the argument, then you win the election.”

  22. “Obama’s the last person on earth who should be lecturing anyone on living within their means.”

that’s because he’s an ingnorant fool, go to many of the independent, hillary dem, former dems blogs.

They know exactly what happened and are ripping the fraud apart.

This ain’t 1995, we know how this all went down, these dem idiots think we all just rely on CNN and MSNBC and the NYT for our information.

Hell, I used to give Clinton full credit for balancing the budget in the 90′s because that is what CNN says, now I did my own research went back and understood what happened, and as much as I do not like Gingich, at least I respect because because now I understand it was people like gingrish and john kasich who balanced the budget, took all the hits.

  23. Go USAjobs.gov and you will find the federal government advertizing for 1032 open staff positions in the DC area. If the Federal govt bureaucracy had any understanding of the bankrupt status of the country, they like any private company would have a hiring freeze, filling open positions only from surplussed staff . That is more difficult and calls for performance management to limit “pass the trash”.
ONE WTF is the guy responsible for the attitude of the federal bureaucracy and until he changes it little cost control will be seen

  24. Given that up until he began to run for election, obama was in such dire financial straits he could not even lease a car. And that both he and his wife forfeited their law licenses, I’m not sure how they intended to pay off their huge debts and support their family.
A non-reformed drunk suggesting someone ELSE go on the wagon!

  25. Step back and look at this for what it is: Pre-written Speech #1! Pre-written Speech #2, if there was no compromise, would be a rant on Republicans.

It’s just words – written in advance just like Liz Taylor’s obit.

  26. Boehner and the rest of the republican party apparatchik hierarchy needs to go. TODAY! They are no more serious than the dem leaders about the deficit. LACK TESTICULAR FORTITUDE. Take the people who put them in power for granted.

Time for the republican party to fade into history.

  27. Is anyone surprised with his arrogance? He also tells us we need to get rid of our cars, eat what Michelle wants us to eat, and turn the heat down in our house just to name a few.

  28. Pamlinson #28: If we listen to what Obama and michelle are telling us to eat we’ll all end up with big Michelle bustle butts!

  29. Valley Girl Rick @#5,

    Buy a clue!

Bush Deficit vs. Obama Deficit in Pictures

Many Obama defenders in the comments are claiming that the numbers above do not include spending on Iraq and Afghanistan during the Bush years. They most certainly do. While Bush did fund the wars through emergency supplementals (not the regular budget process), that spending did not simply vanish. It is included in the numbers above. Also, some Obama defenders are claiming the graphic above represents biased Heritage Foundation numbers. While we stand behind the numbers we put out 100%, the numbers, and the graphic itself, above are from the Washington Post. We originally left out the link to WaPo. It has now been added.

  32. We’ll see who won in September, but Republicans have achieved one major accomplishment. Not only did they force the first actual reductions in government spending in ages, but they have changed the political paradigm from whether to cut to how much and where to cut. That’s a pretty impressive victory for a party that only controls one chamber of Congress.

Update: One last point along these lines. Democrats have spent the last four months arguing that Republicans were too radical to govern and wanted to destroy government. Instead, Republicans fashioned a deal on their own terms and passed a budget deal — something Democrats couldn’t or wouldn’t do when they had all the power in DC. This gives the GOP a lot of credibility on leadership and governance, and all of it at the expense of Harry Reid and Barack Obama.

  33. Jim, your point is well-taken, here.

But look at how the President has handle it, namely as a victory. That struck some of us as odd

    http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2011/04/strangely-detached-from-reality.html

while I submit that speech was a feature, not a bug. I guarantee that there are people who believed every word he said in that speech, in the way he intended. I got a dose of this day-before-yesterday from a reasonable, educated Democratic voter from California.

As far as he is concerned, the President had given the Republicans everything they wanted, and they then presented a moving target. So, it’s all the Repubs fault that we are even discussing a shutdown. Obviously, he had to know that this budget is a holdover from the last session, and unfinished business from the Democrats, which means they were required to accommodate the new members of Congress because they hadn’t done their job in time.

I don’t agree with him, mainly because I believe that the constituents of both parties got hold of our House of Representatives and shook them up, which is why we ended up with the cuts we did get.

I put this here, not to disagree with you, but because he placed it as something he assumed anybody would agree to. This divergence in even the memory of the last few months’ events is serious. Thank you for posting. Thank you for re-posting the hard data.

  34. Without the senate or president on their side, Boehner did the best he could. He fought to cut spending and averted a shut-down.

Remember, the Democrat position through this whole thing was “WE WANT TO SPEND MORE. THERE’S NOT ENOUGH DEFICIT SPENDING.”

The Democrats fought to enslave future generations, and risked a shut-down to do it.

Rikki, ya got that retard thing goin for ya. Don’t ever change.

  36. Obamao and his imps will probably be good enough liars to fool the American people again in 2012. Get used to him.

  37. cal rifkin, you had to say it and ruin my day. This is prophecy. The Republicans have nothing for a candidate, except non-candidates like Bachmann and Ryan. The entire R Party plutocracy needs a quick trip into the dustbin of history. Team alzheimer needs to go. Take a page from the communist, er, I mean Democrat playbook and run some new people, not that doddering idiot McCain.

  38. Obama always takes credit for everything that ends well — that we know. But what Boehner and the Republicans did was change the dialog on the deficit. In this center/right country we don’t want Government taking over every aspect of our lives.

  39. This is HYSTERICAL!

Time’s Mark Halperin: Obama Has Been Brilliant On 2011 Budget

Although Barack Obama never proposed a 2011 budget, the folks on MSNBC think he’s done an absolutely marvelous job in this regard.

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2011/04/08/times-mark-halperin-obama-has-been-brilliant-2011-budget

    Bwahahahahaha!

  40. You trolls probably wanted the Govt. shutdown so that you could could moan about Republicans killing women and children. After all its what you always do best. This time however, we haven’t got time for one of your temper tantrums — WE HAVE A NATION TO REBUILD.

  41. He may not be the anti-Christ, but he is certainly anti Christ.

  42. OT – Good for Donald Trump

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/08/opinion/lweb08trump.html

When BO’s campaign organization calle John McCain’ citizenship into question, John McCain released his documents. Fair’s fair. The BO campaign raised the issue.

Trump is right: a certificate of live birth is not a birth certificate, and it does not establish the location of birth in Hawaii. Like Trump, I suspect there is some minor embarrassment on the original paper, not of Constitutional significance. Still, I am surprised and disappointed that the Democratic Party itself failed to straighten this out during the primary season. They failed us Democratic voters.

  43. Is that “brilliant” as in flaming?

  44. #5

Rick, you’re late to the party…The democrats intend to chain people like you to the Federal, State, County and City plow for the rest of your life…One day you may wake up and wonder why nearly half of your money disappears into various government coffers never to be seen again…Oh yeah, maybe you can stand in line behind illegal aliens and welfare mothers for a free flu shot. So you have that going for you…How about call Axelrod for some new talking points. You’re wasting your time here son…

  45. Obozo Africanus is on his way to doubling the national debt in just three years…No mean feat for a man with no experience running, well, anything…The United States has become laughing stock for the world. All the world knows that Obama and the democrats have ransacked the Treasury and now threaten the World’s reserve currency with destruction. Bernanke prints dollars to buy US bonds as the Treasury commissioned by the founding fathers becomes a self-licking ice cream cone. And yet, the boy king has the audacity of hope to think that we ignorant fools can’t see the destruction he has planned.

  46. Mark Levin has it right. This “deal” is nothing but a ponce scheme…its supposed cuts come from such things as the Administrations 2011 budget that never existed!

Boehner and cohorts from Bush administration have done nothing but completely collapse again. If some intestinal fortitude doesn’t start soon, we are in big trouble. There is no chance that they will do any better in the upcoming two battles, they are afraid of their own tails!

Levin calls it exactly how it is…thank God for at least one voice of truth and substance.

And, Michelle Bachman was as duplicitous on this as any other politician, she was all over the place the last two days, trying to keep her bona fida with the tea party while still going along with the scam. Yes, she voted NO because she was given the political cover to do so since on the inside she helped to drive the deal. I think I agree she’s too close to Karl Rove to be a real principled outsider.

Boehner is a complete disaster as are some of the other entrenched Republicans!

Ryan’s budget will go no where except provide election discussion and the debt ceiling will be raised…end of story. There is only ONE unpredictable variable here…….the American people. They are the only ones with any guts because they have to “walk the walk.” God help us if we don’t take back this country, get rid of career politicians, get rid of this expansive government nightmare and get down on our knees before our creator by whose will we even exist!

  47. Americans voted for the RINOs under Bush and the Marxists under the Kenyan. They have no right to whine when the bill collecter comes. We are headed to a new Depression. Those not prepared are doomed. The American experiment is dead.

    Winning!
